This is by far the best answer so far. It is all down to how you feel personally about your friend and his mother, and whether you are prepared to lose the cash anyway. I have a very good friend and I would have paid his mother's rent in that sort of situation. As said above-a good friend is worth much more than money.

In this day and age - you must be kidding. People don't take care of family anymore.

When I was an apprentice I leant a carpenter a fiver. He never did give it back to me, even though he often said he would.

Couple years on and I havent lent anyone a single penny. If I give someone money, I do it as a gift.

Dont lend or give him any, if he was a friend he wouldnt have asked.

True Friends dont ask to borrow money

Rubbish. You have to look at the circumstances and then judge. So he lets his mother be kicked out only to find out a month later his firend having known would have helped.

True friends can ask and tell each other anything and not judge.. they can also say no and know the other will respect what they say.

I not so long ago helped a friend out who needed money urgently. I got a loan for £2000 to help them and it was the worst mistake i have ever made, every month it is the biggest hassle ever to get the payment of them for it.
As i am only 21 in a shabby job and have a house to keep having a 2k loan over your head is a complete bollocks!

i have learnt from my mistake and i will never lend any money to anyone ever again - especially since after lending the money my "friend" got sky+ and broadband put in yet i had to cancel my subscription because i couldnt afford it every month!

Been in this situation 3 times now. Twice i lent out just over £100 and in both occasions it took over 14 months to get it back. I didn't need the money but it was the principle. On the other occasion, over a 6 month period i lent my then girlfriend about £1200. We split up but remained friends. I asked her on a few occasions for it back to no avail. In the end i sent her an email saying she has to pay me back within 1 month or i go straight to her parents and ask them for it. It worked as her parents finding out would have made her life hell
Would i do it again??????????
If someone was to ask me for a couple of hundred, i would lay the law down there and then about how long they have to pay it back. In the past i have never discussed these terms and just handed over the cash.
In your situation - i would probably avoid lending the money out as i see no way that your gonna get it back

I think if he is a good friend and he really needs it and has never asked for cash before just let him borrow it and don't mention it again until he offers it back. It can be a risk but with out taking a chance you can never build up close friendships.
