I think that sentence is very harsh.
Drugs just like alcohol can be fine, as long as there done in moderation.
Most people can go out in an evening and have a couple of pints and a glass or 2 of wine, with no problems whilst leading a normal life, and hold a job down.
The same can also be said for people who go out on a saturday night and have a couple of lines, or a pill, and have a ball of a night, without harming/robbing/beating anyone up, whilst also leading a normal life and holding a job down.
As already stated, the problems start to arise when your own actions infrindge on others lives.
A very good friend of mine has had serious drinking problems for the last 12 years, and is heading for a very early grave
Ive never really understood why drugs and alcohol are viewed in such different lights, after all both are mood altering substances that in extreme use, put the user in danger in a number of ways
For 95% of use having a little bit of anything every now and again will never do us any harm, but why the other 5% devolop problems is a mistery to me?
Anyway, just thought id give my opinion before i go to the pub for a couple of shandys

all of these comments are all good and well but unless youve had a few nights out on the coke you have no idea what it can do to you! great buzz, loads of confidence and evan better sex! thats why its adictive! not like a *** that gives you a fuzzy head or a drink that makes you stumble around! its like a huge weight just gone off your shoulders!
Unfortunately, you cant escape the small inconvenience that on the outside you come over like an aggressive, obnoxious areshole.
Sorry, but you and I both know its the truth.

not everyone who take drugs are aggressive lager louts shouting abuse and dancing like a dick head! in fact im far far from it! what we do is get together play guitar and have a drink till the early hours of the morning! im not evan out in the pub acting like an aggressive obnoxious arsehole i think what you are refering to is the ecstasy users? eyes slurring everywere chewing your own face off! that is not what i like to do!
just goes to show people who use this drug do for all sorts of reasons and events! it would seem most people think their roaming the strrets looking for mischief! there are people that do that, im sure but, not all! infact when i do get some sniff i dont leave the house with it and all is done on my own property! i wouldnt even consider going in to the pub loo to do it! again i know some people may want to!

Having never taken the stuff, its interesting to read about what it makes you feel on the inside.

heh, contrary to popular belief, I have never taken an illegal drug in my life.
Not even puff.![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
However, I do believe that with drugs, its a lifestyle choice and is best covered by the "each to their own" philopsophy. However, I harbour a grudge against coke as its ****ed up more than a few people around me and anyone who I am unfortunate enough to be near who takes it is rendered completely insufferable.

I've been pro-drugs for quite a while and have taken just about every substance going. But what did make me think about it was when my 15-year old stepdaughter came to me and said that her friends were doing cocaine and were persuading her to try some. Now, I'm grateful she could actually talk to me about this as I've made no secret of my drug-abusing past so I feel I'm in a better position to offer proper advice instead of the 'don't-do-it-or-it'll-kill-you' approach. So I explained to her what it was, how it's taken and what the physiological effects were. I also told her that whatever she did put up her nose probably contained about 10% of actual cocaine and 90% of random white powder cutting agents. I also told her that the last gram I snorted resulted in me getting a sinus infection which rendered me virtually deaf for 6 months. Was this enough to put her off ? Time will tell, she'll make her own decision. Would all the occasional coke sniffers on this thread be happy if they found their kids doing it ? I know I wouldn't.

You kind of contradict yourself there MJW, you say that you wouldn't be happy knowing she was using coke, but you have made no secret of your use yourself to her....I would say this sends out the message that it's cool....your her dad, she will look up to you.
enough to put her off?...I doubt it

I know its a contradiction, thats what I'm trying to get across. When I say I've made no secret of it, I don't mean being blatant about it, I just answered her questions about it truthfully and did nothing to really glamourise it or make it appear cool. It might not put her off, but I know quite a few people who've come unstuck with over-zealous cocaine use and obviously I don't want her to be one of them.

The point that a lot of people seem to be missing is that he would have been well aware of the consequences of getting caught, but chose to accept the risk, no doubt driven by greed.

Funny to come back to this thread having been in the pubs around town all afternoon. After the lull post football all the deakers get moving and half the town starts on the charlie Which is my que to go home rather than listen to people talk **** all night.
It still amazes me that the likes of Leslie cannot admit that the majority of cocaine users don't end up as theives and live their lives the same as everyone else. Cocaine use has never been as high as it is now but rather than deal with rational debates the knee jerk reactionary stance only muddies the issue and prevents real progress to try and reduce drug use in the UK.
Why is a dealer responsable for the actions of a drug user ? It sems to me that typical leftie politics that Leslie supports just exaberate the problems in the UK

also worth noting that evan though this guy has been robbed of his life, it wont make a blind bit of difference to anybody wanting to buy coke! its that easy to get! i know loads of people who sell coke (class a) i know about 2 people that have consistantly got weed to sell (class c)!
he would have been sorted for a while! plenty of money to do what he wants to! know doubt he dosnt evan sniff coke! and think thats what the real issue is! people cant stand to see someone generate a million so quickly! its not his fault people like coke! its the fools like myself that get into it! you wouldnt buy a fuct scoob just cause someone is selling it! you would buy it cause you wanted it!!

I'm a bit confused to see Astraboy being so anti "drugs" when he has been on here in the past admitting to being on ephridine to go raving!

some people on scoobynet are so used to arguing and getting one on someone

LOL at you fluffing up about by gentle assertion that you might possibly read the likes of the Daily Mail and then you go on a tirade implying I use drugs.
FYI and not that I really mind what you think one way or the other I actually don't use drugs, drink or smoke, but unlike some am not so full of myself, moralising and judgemental as to lecture others as to what they might choose to do with their own lives
As to the rest of your post I agree up to a point about your opinion of the dealers, but then again they wouldn't exert the influence they do if certain substances weren't treated the way they are by society and were at least decriminalised to some degree. Somehow, though, I am sure you are unlikely to agree with that.![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)

If you had read my post more carefully you might have realised that I was being in no way judgemental, but was simply relating the known and true implications of going over the top with any of these substances. My reason for giving these facts was so that you might understand my strong attitude against pushing your luck by taking drugs. This is partly from the problem I had by being hooked on cigarettes for a considerable time and also the difficulty I had in kicking the habit. Getting a drug habit, or alcohol for that matter is eventually going to ruin your life-you can be sure of that. You F1 fan can count yourself lucky,or sensible, for not being drawn into that.
I believe that what I have said just cannot be denied with any form of logic.
I don't mind at all being criticised or being disagreed with, that it what a forum is all about anyway. I do think however that you should at least get your facts right.

If that is what you want to do, that is entirely up to you. ......
I hope you are fully aware of the dangers of course and what it can eventually do to you. It is so easy to damage yourself with the things you do or eat etc. and the problem is that the effects can be slow and difficult to realise until it is too late to recover. All very well to say that it has had no discernable effects so far, but later in life when it suddenly catches up with you, you may well think it was not worth it after all. ....

Les at the end of the day I just feel that given the use of coke and the likes is not confined to a small criminal minority like the powers that be would like to have us believe and is therefore obviously not the complete and utter evil it is portrayed as and that arguably more damaging and addictive drugs seem to be legal combined with the problems caused by the fact that some of these drugs are illegal (dealers etc) that maybe the time has come to look at alternative approach regarding certain drugs.
I know that view may seem abhorrent to you and others, but sometimes a radically alternative approach to reflect a changing society is what is required.
