I still say get a new WRX, cheap to run (in comparison), you know it hasnt been ragged and you get your choice of colour/spec etc. And Litchfields are selling them on the road with cat1 alarm for £14,995 with 3 year warranty!

If this was a common possibility I would be trading in my WRX and swapping it for a Focus 2.0LX as I presume that would be able to keep up with my 220bhp WRX
I would reconsider your options Mr Threadstarter good sir and forget the scoob, evo or focus. Based on the fact that well modified and professionally mapped 05sti's are no quicker than a 225ps Focus st2, I recommend the Pagain Zonda or if you cant stretch to that maybe a nice TVR Sagaris

I ran an EVO 260 for a few months, good car, but felt a little fragile ( cant explain why) Very Very hard ride though ( if you ran over a coin you could tell if it was heads or tails)
Changed to an STI prodrive last year, slightly better performance, still hard ride but this car just feels right somehow. Runnning costs are about the same, but as someone has mentioned earlier, services are further apart. Scoob somehow feels a little better made.
As for the st, im not sure i would pick this as a second fun car, you may always be left wondering "what if" especially if a FQ & scoob came thundering past

All personal preference

Test all three then decide

Im starting to think that Lawson101 is sorry he started this thread since he hasnt been on since his first post, either that or he's decided to go for a Punto Sporting after listening to everyone argue!

Evo's are less common than the scoobs, well they are round my way anyway. I see 3 or 4 scoobs daily compared to only seeing 1 or 2 Evo's in a week. Gets a bit lonely on the roads if you are a waver though

£17k seems a lot for a 260. Take a look on MLR you should find a bargain. eg:-

Mitsubishi Lancer Register Forum - Evo VIII 260..... LOW MILES

Oh another thing to consider are the service intervals - every 4,500 miles or 6 months...

Completely agree with the above.
You should beable to pick a nice FQ300 up for 15k, but be prepared for the expensive (and very frequent) services.

As previously posted if you can afford the running costs of an Evo get the Evo. The 260 model is seen as the poor mans Evo, but spend £800 - £1000 on it and it will easy produce 350 BHP which will slaughter a standard STI or even a PPP'd STI (driver skill dependant).

Best advice though: drive them all and see which you prefer, simple.

Wolfie.

the focus could have been modified...come to think of it,i hope it was! you never do know what the guy driving in front or behind has under the bonnet.there's a guy down the road from me has a fast and furious style 200sx nissan, looks like a couple of grands worth but he's spent 000's tuning it.you want to see this thing gooooo!
but like other's have stated here if you want something fast out of the box it's got to be the fq evo's

Well I have to use the car daily so I went with a WRX PPP. I have driven the ST Focus, EVO, VRX Astra (which wasn't as bad as I thought) and an STI PPPwhich was by far the best. I used my head for once and got the WRX and I f%^ked up . About to spend 000's to get it to handle and go. So for me get an STI PPP and play

LMAO!!

Nightshift atm so not much time to spend on the web tbh.

I thank you all for your comments and insights into the ownership of the 3 cars that im considering.

The CTR has popped up a few times throughout this thread, but I have to say that it is one car that I just do not like at all. So not even considered.

Am going to test all three nearer the time and also check around to see exactly what I can afford. If FQ300 or above is in my range then I will obviously have a look.

I am also going to look at the Spec C and possibly the Astra VXR although again this has only 3 doors iirc.

Having thought about it more I am leaning towards either the Evo or the Scooby; so its going to be a difficult decision between the two.

Evos are clearly much rarer around here, see one a month maybe; wheres as Scoobys are seen daily. Whether that has a bearing on my final decision I do not know.

Anywat thanks again for all the comments.
