On a positive note.
Have a look at the new thread "Forget Top Gear For a Moment check this out"
More intersting than Top Gear ( tonight's programme anyway)

I think its a good family programme, i would never buy a car just because a tv programme said it was good. Top Gear is just 3 blokes having a laugh

I have to point out, in support of Top Gear; There aren't any decent cars that are worth seriously reviewing.
Barring seeing the Veyron go round the test track (which they would if they could), there is currently nothing automotive barring footballer's wet dreams and shopping trolleys out there now that doesn't cover any new ground over all the other stuff they have already driven and reviewed.
Watch it for the entertainment, if you want reviews of every single EVO V/VI/VII/VIII/IIX/IX incremnet and multitudes of face lift and special edition Imprezas, go buy an evo mag or watch 5th Drear

5th Gear is a program that just reviews cars and is resonably watchable. But we all rather turn to Top Gear for the entertainment value, what else are you gonna watch on a Sunday night.
Agree on the other hand Top Gear could do some more reviews and less of the show on the stunts they pull, but thats what the summer series is for when cars are released that are worth talking about perhapse
I still love Top Gear and every episode so far this series has made me laugh and that cant be a bad thing.

Made a thread along the same lines as this one after last weeks catastrophe. Luckily I was working tonight so missed it... It's truly turned into an absolute ****ter of a program. They really need to get their act together or they'll lose so many viewers it'll just be canned.

My 8-year-old absolutely piddled himself watching that, tonight.
Let's face it, they're papering over substantial cracks because they nearly lost the series due to a presenter almost being killed!
Roll on the Summer series, I say.

Agreed that its now more of a light entertainment programme rather then a car magazine show, but it still has its moments.
However, I find it odd nobody has mentioned that they had the new Monaro/HSV Clubsport R8 in the studio, when it should of had its guts wrung out around the test track!

Its light entertainment for gods sake. Back in the day top gear was a half hour proggramme with about 6 presenters, it didn't get much of an audience. It was bland and boring and featured plain old test drives around roads at the speed limit.
Then JC left, and basically any appeal it had was lost.
So when they asked him to come back he said provided there were major changes he would. Those changes meant ditching bores like Quentin Wilson, that **** Steve Berry and Tiff Needal, and instead of gay countryside road tests they introduced the tracks etc.
It basically is light entertainment. Although a lot on here would rather every car was rolling roaded before brochure figures were quoted, every car was driven "safely", it would be a very boring show.
Top Gear has recorded its highest amount of viewers this series, is getting better and is basically 3 blokes mucking about having a laugh. If you want dreary dismal road tests then watch 5th gear with the 8 or 9 other viewers they attract. If you want detailed reviews on cars then try reading a magazine.

As this may be the last TG thread, reckon I'll add my bit - I have been saying this for ages now, on other forums [and seem to be one of a few], but TG is going dooooown hill!!!
I shouldn't be an entertainment programme [for entertainment sake], it should be a car programme that happens to be entertaining. All these crap features on limos, tarmac etc just aint funny any more - there are sooooo scripted it's insane! I hate the fact they trying to attract a wider audience; TG is my programme, my weekly fix of cars.
Who said there aint no good cars to review; what about the Audi R8, Lambo LP640, new Type-R, Ferrari 599 to name but a few? And I'd like to see some features on car history/culture etc. When they did that whole show in the States, Richard Hammond visited a car shop that sold old American muscle [up to $350k] - I so wanted to see them, but nope we got a 2 second flash of the cars and that was that!!!
I'll continue to watch it for the odd bit of new metal [I liked the Mustang bit for instance - Hammond old Mustang was sweet], but come on BBC, give us our CAR programme back

Don't forget (as was said on the previous thread about this (and the one before that
)) this wasn't a new series - it was the end of the previous one - before Hammond's accident. It's obvious they weren't going to shoot a whole load of new stuff for 4 or 5 shows. So they've used a lot of filler material. Just be glad it was back on. I think you will see a return to the previous quality with the new series in the summer.

I enjoyed it ![Thumb](images/smilies/thumb.gif)
I can't really understand why people bother to watch it if they don't like it!?
Agreed this series has been light on content but it's still one of the most enjoyable hours of entertainment on the TV!

Do you think that some manufacturers don't want their cars on TG? Maybe that's a reason why we aren't seeing them so much.
Thought the Mustang was great, but then I like V8's and muscle cars.

There seems to be 2 different kind of TG viewers; people who want to watch a comedy [and are easily pleased] and people who want to see cars.
And quit saying 'if you don't like it don't watch it'!!! TG used to be a wicked show, they messing it up now [for the car lover] and that's why a lot of people are unhappy - why should people just accept that and switch off, it's not like there are a bunch of other car show on the box?

As Clarkson said in the first one of this series, "it's just three blookes, cocking about".
TG has long since stopped being a motoring programme and has been light entertainment for a number of years.
Watch 5th Gear if you want car reviews.
Next thing you'll be asking for a return of William Woollard and Tony bloody Mason, all wittering on about how the new Nissan Smallcrap doesn't have the best bootspace in it's class!![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
Geezer

Top Gear HAS changed this year. To be honest I thought the first three episodes were rubbish. I quite enjoyed last night's though.
It doesn't seem as much about cars anymore, it's more about the presenters.
Why didn't they tell us more about the VXR8? Why didn't that go around the track?
Also, is that the shortest series in history?

I doubt that the Hamster's accident had any bearing on the programme. I have to say I was very disappointed in the episode last night and was not impressed at the preceding one either.
This was always supposed to be an informative programme about cars in the first place with the odd bit of light entertainment thrown in. They seem to have lost their way somewhat and the light entertainment bit leaves a lot to be desired. Looks like a lot of money being wasted to no effect. It is a waste of the presenters' abilities and they need to get it all together again as it used to be. It has turned into a sort of "tabloid" programme pandering to JC's excesses.
