There are old cars out there that have classic looks and modern running gear, I remember a Top Gear show that had an E-Type Jag that had had the faults put right on the design, and it was a cracking car to. The same could be done with the Impreza classic. A 22B shape car with all the best running gear and engine would be a winner. Plus,if I recall correctly, Nissan also relaunched the renovated 240Z in the us, went out and got as many original cars as they could and restored them for the us market.

Yes but a 240Z and an E-Type Jag are truly 'classic' shapes. In 10 years time people will not look on 90's Imprezas as classics - for the same reason that that people don't lust after Sapphire Cosworths nowadays. Well most normal people that is. Show an Impreza to 90% of the world's population and they'll think it's a Proton with a bodykit.

I own a MY98 WRX, but that doesn't mean I don't think it's outdated. Yes there is a certain buzz from owning a fast, well-regarded car that in some ways may be better than the modern version. But if you gave me the choice of a 2007 spec classic shape Scoob and a 2007 spec hawkeye or whatever they're called, I'd have the hawkeye.

Look at the modern Beetles that they made in Mexico. There were hundreds of thousands of people all over Europe who were totally into their Beetles but the thought of buying a new one from Mexico didn't even cross their mind. Because it just wouldn't be right. Cars belong to their era and some cars make an impression that resonates for years or even decades, but you can never take a car out of its time.

I think more people on Scoobynet prefer classics. I don't think the same could be said of the general population.

I dont know why the Bugeye gets so much stick as each model comes out they get better and better.Anyway like for like classic sti vs new sti, the new one would wipe the floor with it.

i know this statment will get some comments but lest face it its the truth.

(but bugeyes will always reign supreme)

I like the classic but would not buy one if it was offered to me as a new car.

I, like most I think, have a classic because it fits into my budget but would have the newer car(s) given the chance. Plus, for me anyway, the looks are not the deciding factor. Its all about the performance per £.

Classic or New Age cars? Not fussed either way, all great cars.

The torques up in the new one combined with better gearbox and road holding and brakes, standard classic v standard newage it'd be dead in the water.besides Do you really think after all the years of development that subaru have done that they'd settle with having a worse car now than what they started with? i think not.

take the GT40 a world class car with bags of history and titles, and the new Ford GT with not much to its name i know (so far) but the same rule applys the new one is better/faster/ etc all round due to engineering development.

Go back in time ...............whoooooooooooh..............whooooo ooooooooooh............whooooooooooooooh Dr is that whoo, no it's Billie and it's 1997-98ish
The Scooby was a powerfull handling Production Car and not much could compete with it

Power to weight is God hence why Ford killed the Family Escort in favour of the Focus hot Hatch Subaru tried to Make the Classic Family Imprezza fit in to the new era of Car Safety Regs. but killed the PTW.

Even worse the Hot Hatches were getting much faster/powerful and lighter ..............whoooooooooooh..............whoooooo oooooooooh............whooooooooooooooh back to 2007 even the Classic is an "also ran" "average"
HOT hatches will eat most UK Scoobs.

move on and enjoy

tony

Wasn't that a reason for not having a modern Impreza in 1994 ?

They've never been pretty.

They did that with the Bugeye.

Do you think that the new Golf GTI is a better car than the original? Or the new Beetle? Or the new Mini? Or the new Mustang?

Are they ****.

Dunt matter, Tony. The only true scoobs are classic scoobs. Even then only the last two years of their production.

Are they ****.
So in that case how come you virtually never see the old ones on the road now? If they were SO good, surely every owner of a new Golf, Beetle, Mini or Mustang would be looking out for mint old motors and cherishing them and would have left their modern version at home.

It might be boring but I'd rather crash in a modern Golf GTi. I'd rather drive in winter in a new Beetle with proper heating. My wife's weekly shop certainly wouldn't fit in an original Mini. And I'm sure the owners of new Mustangs enjoy their aircon, satnav etc etc. If people in general wanted old outdated cars, they would buy them. The fact is that 99% of people don't want them and can't justify owning cars just for fun. I've had loads of fun second cars - e.g. a 200SX, a Scirocco, but I still loved my wife's Yaris T-Sport.

Classics Rule!

Part of my long term <vision> that we have with the NBO concept is that in our car of the day show someone will get the classic in the arena and put the mirrors underneath it like at the RS shows

then we know we are on the way to classic status

By the way classics DO RULE

are the best looking

especially in Green with gold wheels and are wagons

I have never been a lover of modern cars, I'm old school all the way, cant be doing with all these mods cons what wrong with a ****ing map LOL and if you get lost in the UK then you shouldnt be driving LOL. We dont pick up our classic until tomorrow and we will love and cherish it.

This will be our 2nd classic shape (first was a sport) and we have bought it as it was the right price and mint. Performance of a car dont bother me as bikes are the only real speed buzz. People think with over 300 BHP is gunna be fast, NOT you jump on a Hayabusa and I will show you fast LOL.

i love getting a new car

i have a limited edition sport in yello that i nearly got converted to a turbo, but i am glad i didn't. the mods i have done are easily reversible. i am not sure i could take on the extra running costs with a turbo anyway
