I drifted a Vauxhall Frontera up a high street once.

 

With regards driving into a women and a pram - i did clearly state that as long as nobody was put in danger then i cant see the harm in enjoying the performance factor of one car, this after all is the overall reason 98% of the people who post on here buy an impreza.

 

everyone has had their moments on the public road, it's the announcing it on a public forum that seems to get to some people....

 

This thread sure is dividing opinion. None of us were there - maybe it was dangerous driving, but maybe not - maybe the speed wasn't that high, it could have just been high in relation to the bend - visibility could've been huge, with no other road users. Who here has never broken the speed limit? I'm not saying this example is the same, but there are plenty of road users who will say that any speeding is dangerous.

If it upsets some of you that you're getting a bad name from the playstation crew, who can afford cheap Imprezas, maybe you should work harder and buy a Ferrari. Or maybe you should chill, and ignore people who judge you for the car you choose to drive.

hate to say it but im probably a chav i read max power i have a widescreen telly with ps2, i do drive my scoobies (red 04 wrx,white 54 sti) with a tracksuit and hat, i didnt realise it was an exclusive ownership club for people with a mid life crisis who frown uopn the smallest graphic or magic tree etc. Pardon me for not giving a toss!

 

But if a nipper in a Corsa or saxo did it he would of course be branded a dick head

 

FWIW, the 'drift' was probably caused by a diesel spillage from one of the 100's buses that terminate at Selbourne Road

Its people like you that whinge that you are too scared to take your car on track in case you do damage to it yet will persist in driving like a tw@t on the public road where the dangers to you and more importantly, everyone else, are mugh higher.

Grow up and learn to use your obviously enormous driving skills where appropriate.

Sure we have all broken one or two motoring laws, myself included, but do you really think that drifting in a built up area at an "emotional speed" is defendable?

Like I said - save it for an appropriate place.

He might have assessed the situation, saw that there were no other road users about etc etc but that still doesn't condone what he did. Accidents don't happen, they are caused. Caused by stupid actions like this.

Take a look at the link I posted to the video of the guy at the 'Ring. Could you actually see any danger as he came around that bend? No you probably couldn't but he gave it some stick and lost control and hey presto ends up trashing his car. The very same thing could have happened here and he could have plowed his car into somebody else's that was parked up or hit a pedestrian and then it wouldn't have seemed such a good idea to have attempted that drift in the first place. Or better still a set of flashing blue lights emerges from that cloud of tyre smoke. I'm sure the grin on his face would disappear in a flash.

I know we cannot live our lives by 'what if, what if' because if we did we would never leave the house in the morning, but there is a time and a place for this sort of stuff and it isn't on the public road. Get it on the track if your so confident of your driving ability.

OK, so you disaggree with what the man said but unfortunately your knee-jerk reply sums you up in the eyes of many - Basically an inexperienced, holier than thou, little twerp! and that's a shame, it needn't be that way. What you haven't grasped is that with owning a high performance car, comes a certain responsibility. As you get a bit older, you'll realise that, it's all part of maturing.
Your "description" of Navigator fits my age group and it's just water off a ducks back mate as we know it's just the ramblings of imaturity. Believe it or not Iv'e been where you are, albeit a long time ago but never as disrespectful in my choice of words!

I think that is a stereotypical and quite ignorant view.

I’m 22yrs old with a MY00 Classic running a little short of 300bhp.

Love my car, it is very well looked after and I love the power. To make a statement like that seems to depict you as a bit of a snob to be honest and 'Now being run' implies that you feel it is wrong that Subaru’s are now more available to a broader spectrum of people from different backgrounds and ages.

I have seen many older people in M3s/Mercs/Evos/Porsche/Audis who drive 'irresponsibly' and while I’m sure you still consider them reckless would not insult them by referring to them as children because of their age. So if you feel it is reckless fine but leave the stereotyping out of it. You are not necessarily wiser/more intelligent/or have more life experience than people younger than you just probably more opinionated and less acceptive.

I am young but have massive amounts of life experience for my age and come across presumptions jumped up, self important people all the time who are quite often wrong about there ignorant assumptions.

 

In which case you are not an ''irresponsible child'' I put the two words together on purpose.

May i ask, do you not like Imprezas or the drivers or both, There are literally 1000's of other threads on here to the contrary and yet you highlight this one, not trolling, just interested in why and your motivation


I see BMW's being driven by wannabe gangstas, dealers and all sort as well as responsible owners and petrol heads, old M3s being a good example, great cars but now in the hands (in some cases if irresponsible owners.
This does not detract from the fact that the cars itself is a great car
This does not detract from the fact that there are a lot of real drivers and petrolheads that own and use them - Frank Sytner owns a '89 BMW 3 series.

I do find you constant prods at Imprezas and their owners and the stereotyping as all back-to-front baseball cap wearing yobbos (as one homogenous mass) slighty odd.

Yes I think I get it. I'm not defending his actions, I'm just not attacking him for doing something silly when I don't know the facts.

Well if there were no other road users, no, he couldn't have hit a pedestrian. Yes he could have crashed his car, and hurt no one but himself.

It's good that we don't have a forum where everyone just bigs up driving that can be dangerous, but I don't see the need to start slating someone when we don't know how bad it really was.

Well according to the thread title and his posts it was a 'SERIOUS' 4 wheel drift at an 'emotional' speed.

Apparently it made him 'feel like a don', whatever that means.

 

TBH the thread has little appeal i do not appreciate people doing stupid things on the publich highways as i was nearly killed by such an act.


My point is that this thread and content is hardly a refection of SN as a whole - innit

Having said that i enjoy fast cars and track days, etc.

Everything in its place, for me the roads are just too busy and too many dips*it drivers to get out of the way for for me to drive it like i stole it anymore

 

I think an emotional speed is when your in a 40 and someone barely hits 30.
