ELECTRICITY BILLS!!!!

We're not having an issue with out lecky bills at the moment (100 quid for a quarter) but are getting bum shagged for our gas bill (700 quid for the last 6 months).
There is only me and the wife, we have the heating on for no more than 2 hours a day and have a shower each per day!!!
It as the same with the electricity bill but we now turn everything off including the hob, oven, microwave, sky box and never leave the TV on standby....only way to get it down to 100 quid for the last quarter!!
We spoke to someone about our gas bill (last time) and they said it was cos we were only paying estimates for the previous 6 months so had to top it up!!! How the hell have we got a bill for even more this time then???
Im waiting for the 'red' letter to come before I pay it!
How can inflation be what it is when my gas bill has risen by the amount it has??
Who can afford to start a family unless they are on benefits?
