I got a 55 plate 2005 model shogun 3.2 diesel, its band F 195 quid, now if it were registered after march 2006 it would have been a band G (current models are).

So why is your landie 300 quid? is it petrol?

Or have i got my shogun wrong!!

I've got a new shape L200. would be in band F but only £115 per year, cos it's classed as a Euro 4 LGV.... bands don't apply to LGV!

if you have 12-13 pairs of shoes them presumably on average you only wear a pair for 4-5 weeks of the year, no wonder they last 10 years

Well its worked for me.I would not consier a 4x4 now.Even if it is 'only' £300/£400 quid I would begrudge paying that to the government.

Having said that my lowly Skoda is apparantly a gas guzzling machine as bad as a 747.Gits

I'm not one of these people who can easily afford a 20-30-40k motor, why because I stupidly plow money into the Impreza....why do I bother.

When I take the trouble to post something on this site, to gain other people's feedback, I do it to find out other peoples views on the subject, not to have abuse & ridicule aimed my way.

thanks again dave
Well your post didnt come across as something to gain other peoples feedback, it was a simple bitch about your car devaluing when in reality it hasnt!!!! Anyway, post anything on SN expect ridicule just it came from me this time

Probably a good idea actually, it might be the better way to cut Obesity so it gets my vote.

Thanks for that Wheelwright, initially I was quite alarmed at the new's, however on reflection it appears to be not quite a severe as first thought & i'm sure I wasn't the only one concerened about the new's 'initially'

The original name for this charge was "Road Fund Tax". It has of course been diverted into the general tax coffers so that while motorists no longer benefit from the improvement, repair, and building of new modern decent roads, we find it being used for all the other nefarious items that we are now subsidising unfairly.

I only buy good quality english shoes which handily for me are all made within a few miles of where i live and rarely spend less than £100 on a pair but also luckily often get them for free. A good pair of Lobbs is £3000, that's the top end along with Edward Green. A very good pair of Barkers, Trickers, Loakes, Jones, Churchs, Jeffrey west, Crockett and jones etc can be bought for £300 and should last you 10 years no problem.

Most ive spent is £150 lol, and I thought that was a fortune.

Where do you buy shoes for £3k

£99 for 6 months I presume, the 'normal' is currently £190 IIRC.
My new Mondy TDCI is a stonking £135, which is nice.

My 54 registered car churns out 238g/km. I thought it was in band G, but the DVLA website seems to say that band g only applies to cars registered after 23rd March:
The cost of vehicle tax for cars, motorcycles, light goods vehicles and trade licences : Directgov - Motoring

I still have to pay the road tax of course, but I've no idea what the amount will be now.

Still, if I'm in the top band group, I may as well go buy a car and get my money's worth.

What I don't understand is the "green tax"

If I had an X5 say for taking the kids to school and only do 3000 miles a year and my neighbour has a polo 1.2 and does 25,000 miles a year, why do I pay 4 times the tax bill for this ?

Why is it necessary to have an X5 or the like to take the children to school anyway?

Why is any car 'necessary' The completely irrational dislike for 4x4's is just 1 step from banning all cars that are 'unnecessary'. The country is in a bad state when what you are allowed to have is determined by what the Government seem to be 'necessary' . I would bet that more people are killed by 'performance cars than by SUV's making everything over 1.6 litre ''unnecessary'

Do you think that the reduction in emissions will be offset by all those people now sparking up?

Ten years? I bought a couple of pairs of work shoes fifteen years ago at Churchs in Northampton (seconds, not that you'd notice) for around a £100.00 and they're still going strong and should do another fifteen which is just as well, given my car's fresh Band G rating cost.
