I got a 55 plate 2005 model shogun 3.2 diesel, its band F 195 quid, now if it were registered after march 2006 it would have been a band G (current models are).
So why is your landie 300 quid? is it petrol?
Or have i got my shogun wrong!!

I'm 27 , i have 12 or 13 pairs (can't remember if one is back at a factory being re-soled at the moment) of shoes from the above mentioned names, the oldest are about 8 year old now and have been re-soled 3 times i think (with one rehealing inbetween each re-soling) and are still in near perfect condition and i see no reason why they won't last at least another 2 years. obviously you can make shoes last a lot longer by looking after them correctly, always using shoes trees and top quality polish etc.

Well its worked for me.I would not consier a 4x4 now.Even if it is 'only' £300/£400 quid I would begrudge paying that to the government.
Having said that my lowly Skoda is apparantly a gas guzzling machine as bad as a 747.Gits

Cheers for that response davegtt, don't hold back there.
I have a 54 Landrover Discovery because I choose to, it's on a budget the same as the Impreza.
I'm not one of these people who can easily afford a 20-30-40k motor, why because I stupidly plow money into the Impreza....why do I bother.
When I take the trouble to post something on this site, to gain other people's feedback, I do it to find out other peoples views on the subject, not to have abuse & ridicule aimed my way.
thanks again dave

Thanks for that Wheelwright, initially I was quite alarmed at the new's, however on reflection it appears to be not quite a severe as first thought & i'm sure I wasn't the only one concerened about the new's 'initially'

Good shoes are something that everyone man should own. Always spend the most you can on your shoes and your bed - you're always in one of them. I only buy good quality english shoes which handily for me are all made within a few miles of where i live and rarely spend less than £100 on a pair but also luckily often get them for free. A good pair of Lobbs is £3000, that's the top end along with Edward Green. A very good pair of Barkers, Trickers, Loakes, Jones, Churchs, Jeffrey west, Crockett and jones etc can be bought for £300 and should last you 10 years no problem.
Most ive spent is £150 lol, and I thought that was a fortune.
Where do you buy shoes for £3k

Audilover spends 300 on a pair of shoes yet drives a Volvo S40, or is it aspires to an Audi and some 300 quid shoes ?
No bloke should ever spend that much on shoes, not whilst Beer, Cars and gadgets are still available, 300 quid shoes are for Meterosexuals, those who have sex with er Austin Metro's

My 54 registered car churns out 238g/km. I thought it was in band G, but the DVLA website seems to say that band g only applies to cars registered after 23rd March:
The cost of vehicle tax for cars, motorcycles, light goods vehicles and trade licences : Directgov - Motoring
I still have to pay the road tax of course, but I've no idea what the amount will be now.
Still, if I'm in the top band group, I may as well go buy a car and get my money's worth.

What I don't understand is the "green tax"
If I had an X5 say for taking the kids to school and only do 3000 miles a year and my neighbour has a polo 1.2 and does 25,000 miles a year, why do I pay 4 times the tax bill for this ?

Why is any car 'necessary' The completely irrational dislike for 4x4's is just 1 step from banning all cars that are 'unnecessary'. The country is in a bad state when what you are allowed to have is determined by what the Government seem to be 'necessary' . I would bet that more people are killed by 'performance cars than by SUV's making everything over 1.6 litre ''unnecessary'

Ten years? I bought a couple of pairs of work shoes fifteen years ago at Churchs in Northampton (seconds, not that you'd notice) for around a £100.00 and they're still going strong and should do another fifteen which is just as well, given my car's fresh Band G rating cost.
