The post previous to mine seemed to infer that one had to have a big SUV to take children to school. Mine was a completely innocent question about that reasoning. You are making assumptions again!

I have a 54 Landrover Discovery because I choose to, it's on a budget the same as the Impreza.

I'm not one of these people who can easily afford a 20-30-40k motor, why because I stupidly plow money into the Impreza....why do I bother.

When I take the trouble to post something on this site, to gain other people's feedback, I do it to find out other peoples views on the subject, not to have abuse & ridicule aimed my way.

thanks again dave
my wife runs a discovery h plate and me a scooby 06 so we get double the problem and i for one think it stinks may be its now not so suprising that they didnt whant to scrap road tax and add it to petrol much easier to rip us off i think it may be twisted logic but i/we will pay because we decide what we drive not this crap knee jerk government

Think about it....you should by rights be still 2 years away from needing your second pair

I only wear quality hiking boots on a daily basis, and I get around 10-15 years use out of them. Hand made, Goretex lined, Polyou (or something) inner lining, Cambrelle something else, calfskin inners (lovely). Brasher, best boots for the sensible man who isn't stuck up his own @r$e with a need to tell everyone how expensive it is being as brilliant as him. My current pair need to serve me another 10 years before I can buy some more though, I hope they still do them then.

BOT.....my tax went up a whole fiver on my diesel supermini with its 228 lbft of torque.

If you actually need a 4X4 for towing or moderate off roading there are some available that fall into Band F.

I think we'll find more manufacturers producing Band F off roaders to supply the towing and off roading sector.
The image side of the market with the X5, Range Rover Sport type of vehicles will take the biggest hit IMO.

Cheers

A good pair of Lobbs is £3000, that's the top end along with Edward Green. A very good pair of Barkers, Trickers, Loakes, Jones, Churchs, Jeffrey west, Crockett and jones etc can be bought for £300 and should last you 10 years no problem.
You make my suit collecting issue look quite steady!

The idea that churchs jeffery west etc last for years is really dependant on what you do with them. I used to always wear churches until I started walking to work at which point 2 pairs had the soles worn through in a year, 1 pair so badly its impossible to re-sole. Thats over £350 a year for shoes. Now I have M&S jobbies that I will happily bin after 5-6 months having only spent 50 quid. I am also going to try some kickers or pod shoes as they have rubber soles and might actually last for a year at the massive price of £20.

I learned quite quickly that if you wear leather soles daily that have been stitched on, the sole soon wears down to, and through, the stitching, necessitating an expensive repair. I now have mine covered in plastic to protect the stitching - which then begs the question, why care about leather soles in the first place?

BOT - Of course, if I drive to work in my big 4x4, I don't wear my shoes out.
