I'm glad you've moved on, more Scoobies for me!
I would have to say there is just something about the Impreza, It may not be the fastest, best looking sportscar, but its your regular saloon with that little bit extra.
Granted it isn't the way it was, but there is a reason why there is an entire forum basically based around the one model.

Glad you like your new ride

But I still like my PPP Wagon (265 BHP) not that I give a monkeys about what BHP I have, I just like my car for what it is, a car, it gets me from A to B just like your car and any other car out there

"You just need to look at the way a lot of classic scoobs are being driven on our roads to understand whats happened to the image in the last few years."

So what you are saying is nobody drove fast in there scoobys a few years ago.
I think you will find it is the same in any car which has decent bhp. But people notice it more when a scooby goes past them. I do like Audis, so the point of this is you like your Audi i and others on here like our scoobys and what.

I am going to the megan forum to tell them i LOVE MY SCOOBY

I find German stuff fairly uninspiring as a rule - its tutonic excellence just leaves me a bit cold.
Yes it is better built
Yes the engineering is great
Yes is dosent have a chav image
Yes some ofit is really nicely designed.

But a scooby has more soul
No its not great build quality
The noise is great - what an exhaust note
Its an unrefined smile a minute drive - its a harsh old thing
300bhp throwing you down a country road
It needent be chav. A good classic in a subtle colour DBM or Grey running a decent amount of BHP, with ARBs and a few other sensible mods, colour coded witha nice set of subtle 17s on, makes for a nice looking understated car. Mr Fudpuckers tweaked RB5 springs to mind - very nicely done.

I have just stepped out of new A3. Lovely car - well put together - quality. But just kind of a bit dull.

A proper scooby has alot of character - and that is what most of this german stuff I drive on the autobahn doesn´t. New V6 SLK....lovely....yawn.

Bluto,

What year is your S-line ? Evo seem to suggest it weighs 1520kg (despite aluminium panels !), which would explain why the 217bhp is soaked up resulting in a 0-60mph time of 6.9 secs.

Still, a nicely put together car with a strong image. Pity you felt the need to come back to Scoobynet to rubbish your old car.

If your talking about post MY2000 classics. Then yes agree Subarus have become heavier and seem to have lost that raw edge. The Sti7 what a dissapointment that was! Modern Subarus dont seem to have the edge that they used to have and have become a bit of a compromise. (Obviously there is good specialist stuff out there T25, Spec C) But as a broad generalisation they are far less inspiring. Still a great car - but less inspiring. Not being able toafford a T25 - Its classic or nothing for me.

Fully appreciate what you are saying there but have you driven an R32 or S3? The sound of an new R32 is as good as if not better sounding than a boxer beat Subaru. Like I said, every chav on every council estate has strapped a mega north sea gas pipe underneath so that you can hear him coming 14 miles way. Its not sport its chav. End of story. Don't try and tell me its character, its killed the image.

Has this been something thats only popped up over the last couple of months or have people been coming on here doing this nonsense for longer?

If people came on to chat about their new car, and say how they find it - great - but this "I've got a *blah*, I had a scooby but scoobies now suck because now *I* don't own one and your all idiots, my dads harder than your dad" is just the sort of rubbish I thought people grew out of when they reached high school.

Your not a petrol-head, I wouldn't even consider you a mere car enthusiast - your just a fashion victim! "oohhh.. people will think this of me, will think that of me.." - who gives a ****? really? Still bothered by what the kid nextdoor thinks? Says more about you than any car ever will.

Sums it up really. Subaru have offered nothing new since 2000 in terms of the competition. You have to agree, once they were great untouchables for the price, nowadays you can get 230bhp from a Chav Astra VXR. The point is Subaru's next car must have:

1/ German build quality
2/ 300bhp + standard
3/ Good looks and not cheap and nasty
4/ No gold wheels and silly spoiler PLEASE!!!

Sorry friend you have totally missed my point (oh and by the way I have been a member since 2002 that makes me a better petrol head than you are so nahhhh!)

Petrol runs through my veins I don't just own an Audi A4 Avant, I am not prepared to go into what else I do own but all I will say is my Audi replaced my MY02 PPP wagon which replaced an MY99 Wagon which replaced an MY96 saloon, i.e. my everyday workhorses

DON'T EVER, EVER SAY BLUTO22B IS NOT A PETROL HEAD

Nah I'm talking about bawbags undertaking, cutting people up using right turn filter lanes to jump queues of traffic and driving around 24/7 with their fogs on. This p1sh about people only driving them 'the way they were intended to be driven' is banded about on here as an excuse for all sorts of plain gash driving.

Only R32 - 1.8T A3 brand New (Are the latest ones) Very impressed with VAG TDi s as well.

I can also see your point of view.
The whole chaving of many of the classics is just plain anoying.
I think it is polarising owners in too two groups.

1.Die hard enthusiasts -who drive something very subtly moded or something like a wrc 555 limited edition sti type ra - and appreciate it (to mention a car mentioned previously).

2.And chav ***** running around with lexus lights who brought it ´caus´ it was cheap and fast.

However - I genuinely like the way they drive and the noise they make. And personaly I really dont care what other people think - I am totaly comfortable in my own skin and I know what I like and its a non chaved classic scoob - end of story. I have no time for anyone that judges people by what they own. (apart from chav ***** LOL)

Conversly - if I spent alot of time on the motorway then something German would be a far better choice. And I can see why the chaving of classics gets on your ****.

I now see a classic subaru as a second car. I have access to practical german stuff for day to day work and very good it is too.

as far as im aware, this is a forum for people who own, use and enjoy their subarus, me included. Im glad you like your new car but if you are going to post a 'mine is better then yours' thread, you are going to get flak. Glad you moved on, so please, move on.

Seems you think everyone has "missed your point".

Bluto, it's not the general concept of what you say that irks your fellow Scoobynet members, it's the manner in which you come across ! So you bought an Audi and preferred it - no probs. Nothing wrong with weighing up the merits of the cars (like purchase price for example), but you have succeeded in being offensive at the same time.

Oh, and to suggest that the Audi is a relative lightweight due to it's aluminium panels is misleading !

Hmmm, 30+ mpg I doubt it. I sold my 03 sti PPP in December and went down the company car route, so I'm now, with what seems like with half the population, driving and Audi A4 2.0T S-line Special Edition albiet not quattro and it currently returns 26-27mpg.

Characterless motorway machine that's about as much fun as a thing that's not much fun. Great, you can go to a garden centre and get admiring glances but in truth no-one can tell it apart from all the other rep mobiles in the car park.

Yep, the build quality is far superior to anything Subaru have made but after a while the novelty of perfection wears off so I went out and bought a P1 at the weekend......a proper car

There's nothing like a good review from someone who's owned a scoob, and now tried something else. And this is nothing like a good review from someone who's owned a scoob.
Golf GTi, and Golf R32? You're a joke mate. They may be nicely built cars, but they are nothing like a scoob to drive (that's not a good thing by the way).

Oh, and when I am visiting the local garden centre on a Sunday I get looks of admiration rather than disdain.
Well I'm delighted you get admiration from your new friends, although you probably would have got just as much if you'd saved money, and bought the new Zafira, from Vauxhall. I'd rather have admiration from people at a race track, than those at a garden centre.
