So nahhhh!? How old are you? You have a son who drives an STi, so that makes you older than 15, right?

The fact that you joined this forum a few years ago, does not make you a petrol head. The fact that you think the next Impreza has to have over 300bhp (more than your Audi), and german build quality (and weight, and price tag), proves that you are not a petrol head. For people who want german build quality, and over 300 bhp, there are BMs, Audis and Mercs to chose from. For people who want a cheaper car, and more fun, there's Subaru.

The fact that you have owned 3 Imprezas, while you appear not to like them, makes you a little silly.

I am getting this image of Blunto in my head. greying, receeding, paunched male.enjoys a pint or 2 with his equally boring pals who work in accounts and drive bland boring rep mobiles with as much road presence as a wet fart on a drizzled out monday morning. he was the rebel who drove the subaru and defended them to the hilt. now hes joined the boys!!!

Bluto you just grew up and matured into everyones worst nightmare..a grandfather type. ohhh ethel he must be one of those ''chav sorts'' with his spoiler..ohh gold wheels how very very unsavoury..they clash with my bergonias. i bet you have a midlife crisis 2 seater tucked away too don't you lol.

wake up. you drive around in a car that shares it's bloody parts bin with a skoda for **** sake. i do really imagine you go out of a sunday morning and buff up your 4 circles on the grille with a duster and stand back and think you are king dick lol.

and another thing...mazda..lexus..subaru..ford..even god damn mercedes now have some form of chav clear lights going on yet you single out the subaru lol. i suppose you think subaru are the only model of car to have fallen foul of a good old barrying by the chav sorts. bmw make 60k sublime performance machines..there are also 318s on a b plate being driven round with oversized alloys and body decals. worse still there is an audi 80 coupe around here with pink neons!!! oh the shame.

I hate people like this guy!

Bluto22b, if you had just said how great the Audi was and how Subaru need to up their game on newer models you would probably have received some support, and possibly a useful debate, all you've done is alienate yourself.

I am looking for a classic STI Wagon, I'm not a chav, I'm a guy with a young family who wants to combine pleasure with practicality. When it comes to estate cars there is nothing this side of an RS4 or Stagea that fulfils the criteria better than a Subaru.

Also, each car has it's own merits. My 200SX has full coilovers, lightweight rims, uprated ARB's etc. It is very loud and more suited for track work than british roads. Sure, it's not as relaxing as an uber barge on long journeys, and it rattles a bit, but luxury isn't it's purpose. I wouldn't go onto the Audi owners club and mock them for their inability to spin up the rear wheels in 3rd!

Why not just live and let live?

Horses for courses really..

Take the MD where I work, 60 something, a self made man not short of a few bob.. and he likes his cars..

He currently drives.. either..
An Aston Martin DB9
A Bentley Continental GT
A Ferrari 575M
A Jaguar X Type
amongst other things..

He stopped to admire and have a good look around my humble Prodrive Classic, commented on what a great motor it was.. and even suggested it'd probably beat some of his motors on a proper road. Although I put him straight and told him nah his DB9 was about 0.5 seconds quicker than my car according to book.

Oh I certainly wouldn't say an Astra VXR is Chav either... not yet at least!

Appropriately to this thread, he ain't all that keen on German metal apparently. Not sure if he's completely aware of Bentley's current pedigree lol. Although he can be forgiven considering it's heritage... it's probably more an overtly German thing

As for the Subaru image, who cares what other people think, I owned a Subaru for myself not to impress the chav kids who hang up the shops, or anyone else, if I was that bothered about image, then maybe I could have bought a similar priced car like the Audi A3 or a BMW 318 which has a fancy badge and german build quality, but there so boring Id end up hating life!!!!!!

You can be described in one word: ****.

Try and be a bit more polite "next" time and you probably would not have had these responses.

BTW Audi lent me an S3 for the last few days, and it is a good car (still out in the driveway), but NOTHING beats my Scooby Wagon regardless of the price and or image!

Again, you ****.

After having a classic and the wife the forester turbo, we left subaru ownership, had a VW Sharan and a Golf, I would put them down as the worst cars ever owned for reliability and build, then tried Land Rovers. Now back to Subaru STI Version 8 and a Forester XT to follow. After owning many cars over the last 17 years nothing is quite as much fun or as reliable as a scoob. And judging by people who I know with Audis, the Subarus are quicker and more reliable. It is personal preference, my kids wouldnt thank me for an audi, they both love the Subaru scene. They are not old enough for smoking jackets and garden centres yet
Come to think of it nor am I

I have also moved on after ten years of Impreza ownership, I could not put up with every **** that comes up alongside me wanting to play, and got very fed up with not being let out at junctions....plus the ridiculous insurance that is now hightened by the chavs that drive like idiots and increase the premiums for everybody....thanks for that.

I have now got an STI, a Forester STI. One that will see off pretty much most things. Nobody knows what it is, and people that have an opinion dont like it, which suits me fine.

I also have a 3.2 V6 Audi, and yes, this engine note is as intoxicating as any Subaru.

The comments on an Impreza's depreciation being better than an Audi's is sheer lunacy. Whoever said that must be in cloud cuckoo land. Maybe he should try talking to some MY05/MY06 owners, who have just found out that their cars are worth 12k because you can buy a new WRX at Litchfields for 14.5k...(or thereabouts)

People need to take the blinkers off....

Marky i was let out of junctions just fine. perhaps you are just an ugly *******

people are not BLINKERED. people realise they are driving fast saloons made in japan to an average build quality.HELLO..wake up..smell the coffee..switch on and listen in. YOU ARE ON A SUBARU FORUM not auditwat.com or VAGina org. people love their cars on here..lots work hard to run and maintain them and the last thing they want is for a former owner to come on and make out like hes moved onto a higher plateu since FINDING a ''better'' car than his 6 grand bugeye and that we are now fools.

the clown that started this thread rubbished a car that he was fine and dandy having 3 of then went on to argue his case for the ownership of audi is people in b and q give him a nod while they get their colosotmy bag out of the boot..and his ****ing ashtray is better damped!!

who gives a **** about the ashtrays beautiful mechanism when i don't fill my lungs full of acrid tar to even be arsed to open the damn thing.

One wonders WHY people move from one car to another, and then find it necessary to rubbish their old car.

Exactly WHO are they trying to convince ? Us? Or themselves?

Oh, and "German build quality?" It's a myth. German cars come nowhere in the reliability stakes

Not sure what kind of reaction the thread starter expected coming back onto SN and trying to claim that his rep wagon is better than a Subaru in so many respects...
I guess having been on SN since it's inception (ohhh something else to be proud of) he must have been the resident troll then and has missed baiting his SN compatriots for a while...
Can I ask the thread starter to stop stirring it up and get back to driving up and down the M1 selling coat hangers... You've got targets to reach, chop chop...
Thanks

Yep, the build quality is far superior to anything Subaru have made but after a while the novelty of perfection wears off so I went out and bought a P1 at the weekend......a proper car

Spot on. You really shouldnt care what other people think. A classic subaru is a great car with soul that looks like it is the underdog. If you buy a car for image then you are insecure as a person. A common thing I like about subaru enthusiasts is that they are really into their cars and genuinely dont care what people think.

´oh thats a bit of a chav car - not as cool as my BM´ ....
´I am not a chav - and I really dont give a flying F__k what you think of my car - now go away and be insecure infront of someone else´

Not knocking other petrol heads who are genuinely into their brand such as guys who are genuinely interested in tuning BMs for example. But the difference is they are into the CAR whether it be E30 E46 not the image.

Rant over

Sums it up nicely:-

Bulb removal.

My mothers 02 Audi TDI130: Take to dealership

MY00 Subaru Classic: remove rubber boot, unclip, change bulb

Subaru cost - Few quid for the bulb

Audi cost - £35 (non xenon model thank god!) not sure if that was plus VAT

Actually, I had to unbolt the power steering res (which didn't really move completely out the way) and move a fair few cables and finally got my fingers in the light and changed the bulb.

Yes its a fine car and its better built than my Impreza and yes, we both chose it over the BMW 320D we looked at. But yes, driving it bores me stupid and when a simple bulb replacement is specified as a dealer only job it makes me wonder who Audi target their cars at.

I can only tell you my stituation, that I think is relevant.

I work in racing, first driving and now managing a race team.. My family is all a big car fan people. We had in the family with the years:
Porsches, BMW, Mini, Hondas, Reanult, Audis and guess what, we have Three Subarus at home now. The fisrt one we got was by "accident" and one we looked deaper that the image (that I agrre with you) we decided that we wanted nothing else. talk to anyone that knows about cars and driving outside of this forum (not to be biased) and you will fing what a Subaru/Audi/VW comparison is.

The S-Line was a big mistake for audi, like burbarry caps it just makes for wannabes that can't afford a proper S. A real shame I think.

As for the 4 suggestions, all fairly boring well built cruisers which appeal to older people not really all that interested in performance but want the look. I've driven all except the audi, which i'd expect to be least exciting. They're comfy and they don't stand out. Fine if that's what you want.

BTW, imprezas might not be expensive soft touch plastics but that's material not build quality. They seem to be built quite industrially as according to their roots and are a tough as old boots.

This has become quite an enjoyable thread.

Reminds me of the Monty Python film (Holy Grail ?), where a lone knight is trying to defend a wee wooden bridge and has his arm cut off, then a leg, then another arm, yet still tries to keep fighting, despite looking ridiculous in the process !

Agree with you all the way (except point 4).
I have now owned my S3 for a couple of weeks and much prefer it to my STI Blob.
Maybe i have grown out of the raw power thing and gone for performance, build quality and better image.
End of the day, each to their own its just a shame so many ***** shoot you down for having an opinion.

3/ Good looks and not cheap and nasty

True, true.....

Having an S3, S4, S6 or an S8 was the difference a few years ago. Now every time I pass an Audi it has that crappy "S-line" badge.

Too common for me, especially when they ask the prices that they do for an "S" and any muppet has an "S-lined" A4 or whatever....

With the Scooby I know what I am getting!
