QUOTE BLUTO 22B Awe, come on Paul, you know I adore the breed, I have an MY02 WRX wagon in silver which I also adore, but I do have a certain admiration for Austin/Morris models. Give me a break

QUOTE BLUTO 22B Had a trip to see my mate Ted today and on the return home I encountered a silver Audi TT. Stuck to my rear end and itching to pass something suddenly possessed me and I felt the urge to change into 3rd and push the accelerator to the floor. Didn't pull much distance at first, but as soon as we came to the first bend...whoooosh, I was away and he never caught me again after a few well timed overtaking manouveres

For once, I totally agree with you!

Two manufacturers, two different directions, two different targets.

Although I think the initial post was written with very little intention to get peoples backs up, now I think 'Bluto' is just trying to justify his decision to people of a very different audience and getting more and more aggressive in his responses to justify his decision, the "grand status" remark is a perfect example of this.

At this point in this thread I think there is only one person wearing the 'tinted shades', this is predominately a Subaru Impreza enthusiasts forum, you had to expect something like the responses you have got from the members on here. I'm sure the other members on here are fully aware of what Audi offers in terms of motoring, but still choose to have a car that satisfies there needs and wants. They don't need someone to hammer the point home, if they are interested, I'm sure the other members of SN will do their own investigations and research as I did when looking for my Impreza. You can lead a horse to water and all that...

I'm a big believer in not caring what other people really think of me, so long as they have a reason. So as far as what the neighbours think of my car, I couldn't give a monkeys. I bought my 95 Impreza WRX because it was a car I liked and having driven it, loved its performance, which is a big step up from the MG ZR 105 I used to own. That said though I don't go on MGZR.co.uk and tell them how much more superior my car is to theres. Its just not the way to do things in my opinion.

Now I am new to the Subaru ownership, this been my first and I've only owned the car since August 2006. One thing I don't agree with is this "labelling" of the new sort of classic Impreza drivers. I bought mine because it was 1. In my budget 2. In my opinion the best looking Impreza. Things like a smooth opening coin box hold very little regard in my decisions when purchasing a car. Like 'Elmer' I also hate the term 'Scooby' the name is clearly Subaru Impreza and that is what it will be referred as from me.

Bluto, just accept the views of the members on here, as you want them to except yours. There is a reason that people have kept their Subaru just as you have a reason for changing. As people move on in life their goals and opinons change on things, yours is now about image and refinement, mine like many SN members is still about performance and as a few people have put "smiles per miles". Your happy with your car, we're happy with ours, well, most of us anyway.

Live and let live.

Bluto22b…. surely this is a wind-up.

Yes, I’m a newbie – I’ve just bought a new WRX, chav lights and everything! Just a couple of things:
Why are you comparing a £14k Subaru with a £30k Audi? Audi don’t even make a car at £14k!
The £200 you’re saving every year didn’t really sway your decision did it?….. your car’s depreciating that amount every two weeks….Mine isn’t. I’m having more fun than you…. And I’m going faster. I will probably break down less and my dealer’s better value.

But as far as interior quality and comfort goes…. You’ve got me. That might be where the additional £16k went! I'm also lucky enough to own an E39 M5 which does everything your Audi does plus lots, lots, lots more….. Both my cars together cost less than your super-duper Audi….. Yawn.

Lordy lord this guy opened a can of worms didn't he!

Personally Bluto22b I find it a little odd that you wasted the energy posting the original meassage in the first place. Thats five minutes of your life you'll never get back you know!!

I bought my first Impreza a month back and love it for the same simple unarguable reason most of the guys on the forum love theirs - it puts a smile on my face when i drive it. Surely not much else matters?!

Previously I've owned five beemers varying from a 535 sport to a 328 convertible and they were all much enjoyed great cars. And now I've had my eyes opened to how good an Impreza is guess what I think of Beemers...... Still great cars, and no doubt Audi's are too. They just aren't what I choose to drive right now. And I don't feel the need to big up my choice of car or ram it's merits down other peoples throats.

But seeing as we ARE talking merits: A 51reg WRX, immaculate, 43,000 on the clock, full subaru history etc etc for 6 grand. It's not very old, it's safe, reliable, can cope with my work needs and my family, whilst being fast and bloody good fun. I don't care who you are or what you say : on the value-for-money-o-meter, that takes some beating. And it's no worse on petrol than the 3series i just sold.
If I wanted to juggle finances to buy a new one I could, but depreciation on ANY new car can be fearsome as we all know so I choose to let some other poor sod bear the brunt of it for me.

I agree that some classics are being butchered and don't do the Impreza image much good (there is a very fine line between a tastefully modified car and an absolute horror on wheels!) but any car that gets old and becomes available for a couple of grand is going to get that treatment sometimes. There are certainly just as many older Audi's and BMW's driving around looking...er....well..........sh*t for want of a better word!
As the years go by the classic will become rarer, the crap ones will have gone to scrapyard. Then a good one will be sought after and truly earn its 'classic' title.

Long and short of it is : You pay yer money, you take yer choice - enjoy what you've got! And don't be arrogant and opiniated about it!!!

Yes I am very much a newbie, Mister Bluto22b, but only to this forum not to life. So if you expect your words to be respected fella (as you clearly do!) then have the good grace to respect the words of those around you too.

Bo***cks I got sucked in and now i've lost five minutes of MY life that i'll never get back.

Damn n Blast!

That is how you mess up all those dampers!

Last year I had a perception that Golden Brown would increase road fund duty from £210 to twice that, I can read him like a book that was another reason I chose the 2 litre as its in the lower band. If YOU don't like wasting money on cars why the hell do you drive a car which drinks fuel like a tramp would consume whisky at a distillery and costs a small fortune to insure and maintain??? You hit the spot with the point about congestion, why waste money on higher road fund, fuel and insurance when you can crawl at the same speed as everyone else but in a car which is nicer to sit in? You have obviously missed my rather obscure humour in the point about the garden centre, read the thread properly, grab a can from your fridge and chill out.

Don't take life too seriously, d1ck.

Selling my car at the moment. Running about in the g/f's golf tdi for a while until I get my next motor. Got to work this morning and looked at the trip, 70.3 mpg for my commute to work, 15 miles. These bloody vw cars

I do understand the point being made by the op. I'd never even consider a new shape Impreza from Subaru. The game has moved on since the Impreza was a cult car untouchable by the rep masses. When a diesel car can soundly beat a standard Impreza then it's time to re-evaluate.

I don't necessarily agree with coming on this forum and shouting about 'my car is better than yours' but having owned Subarus i think he has a right to comment on Subarus in general.

I've just 'found' Subaru and am totally gobsmacked by the performance to be honest,i have an 07 STI and am gutted about the tax issue, but would i have bought it if i'd known this was coming ? OF COURSE I WOULD!!

As for the list, the only one i'd have would be an S3,but they're overpriced to be honest,i got a cracking deal on my STI which was the reason i bought it.

People shouldn't get wound up about these things,if they're happy with what they've got, what's the problem, that's the beauty of choice - each to their own.

Direct your anger at Gordon Brown

When i buy a car i am the sort of person who doesn`t care what the Jones`s have or whether someone else has a quicker car than me, i buy a certain car because its what i want. The cars i mainly buy are road going versions of rally cars as rallying is one of the things i am into.

Ive owned both a UK classic Impreza turbo and an Evo 6 and i would never say one is better than the other because i don`t buy a car to compare it to another car, i buy a car because its what i want.

Its each to their own when buying a car and different people want different things from a car, i bought an Impreza because i wanted to drive Subaru`s technology and likewise when i bought an Evo and they are both great, aggressive looking cars with excellent performance. One thing i would never get is saying my car is better than yours.

This thread still going......YAWN.

Acting like a bunch of *** quaffing cross dressers.

Lets all jump on the bandwagon and give Bluto a hiding - simply for having his own opinion!
I've met some 'tards in my life but some of you are in a totally different stratosphere, such unbelievably inept social misfits ever to have figured out how to use a PC. Are you lot intelligent enough to comprehend that your imbecility isn't something to be proud of?
There's a naivete that sets some of you apart from the rest of God's lesser intellects and puts you, truly, in a special needs class all on your own.

So have I

Anyway, I've gone through a few mixed emotions throughout this thread but the one that stayed with me longest was sadness.

The OP keeps harping on about how long he's been on SN and it seems sad that he feels that gives him the right to diss newbies and generally not be very nice.

I do hope he is not typical of all long-standing SN members as that would make the future look a little bleak.

Indeed - Bluto was a bit of a **** back then, and it seems nothing changes.

One has to question what kind of person buys three cars of one marque (iirc) with so many "problems".

Not one of particularly enhanced intelligence, that is for sure.

So, an old troll has bought a nicely specced and built but ultimately dull old mans car.

And now tries to justify not just the decision to buy an Audi A4, but more importantly the fact that he is growing old and is just as dull as the car he has now bought.

And if our old troll decides to respond to this post, I'd like to point out that a) I've been posting on this board for 3 years longer than him despite my current username status, and b) that I'm no youngster myself.

I'm guessing that bose system is probably tuned to radio 4.

He's got a point about subaru build and running costs, but its not like its a surprise.

Its mad how such an argument occurs like the one here but then well we all love cars. But that should unite us. My last car was a BMW 525, I couldn't wait to get rid of it as it was so unresponsive but that didn't make it a crap car, it was just not for me.. The car i had before that was a German import 325 which was an animal. As much as i love my scoob, I still look back at that beemer with great memories. If I ever decide to move away from scooby ownership which is possible as I'm only in my 30's i will look back at scoobs in the same way I look at the 325 I had.

Bluto's post was inflamatory Dan, meant to wind up and justify his decision in one - pure and simple.

Your point is a very good one, but sadly doesn't apply to trolls.

If I think back I have fond memories of all the cars I've owned and run over the years, and some of them were crap compared to today's offerings.

If you had a point, I'd just agree with you, but to then suggest 2 Golfs as better drivers cars (given that you know we own Imprezas because we think they are good drivers cars), shows that you are talking nonsense.

This was one of your other original points, and I just don't believe you. I suggest it is you that has tinted spectacles.

If I were your age, I think I too would choose the Audi over a Subaru. I'm amazed you've had Imprezas as long as you have. But they are very different cars. If you pick any price bracket, neither the Golf or Audi would have a chance of keeping up with an Impreza.
Look, who gives a stuff whether I am faster or slower than a bloody Impreza or Porsche Boxster for that matter ? The queens highways are NOT intended as racetracks and I am getting increasingly worried by some of the posts on here about doing over 120 mph on "my private test track" I am not naive I know exactly what you are saying and I must point out at this point that a close friend at my local is a traffic officer with over 15 years experience and regularly has to scrape people like these up off the road Some of you need to pass your 18 year olf phase and grow up, we don't buy performance cars to race one another if you want to do that find a suitable track like Silverstone or Cadwell Park Buy a car and revel in the performance which suits your ability and needs, just don't buy one just so that you can out accelerate the next performance car which comes along. AND YOU DONT PUT YOUR FOOT DOWN

Yawn.
Nice economic lesson there chum, who taught you Viv Nicholson? For your information I paid less than your stated amount as my car is a new "ex demonstrator" with the intitial first years depreciation taken care of. Today my son who lives in Yorkshire rang me to say that the Subaru dealer in Sheffield is offering STI Type D's for £22k, that's £5k less than list I pity the poor sod who paid near to list for one of these humdingers jesus what a shock this must be. Don't think that your car will be depreciation resistant either, you will lose more in 3 months than I will in a year FACT. Don't think that just because you went the import route and got a "bargain" that you have avoided the depreciation slide, you will be lucky if your car is worth £5k trade in in three years time
