No it didn't. You are criticising other users for their spelling mistakes, and poor grammar, yet you are making up lies to aid your argument. If you had said "have you tried any of the newer performance cars because actually they are quite good", this thread would have been an interesting debate. Instead, you said:
Put away your WRC blue tinted spectacles (they never win any rallies now anyway so whats the point) and go and test drive one of these fine cars:

I have driven a new Gti thanks! I test drove a few cars before the Sti and also have a good buddy with a Gti with the DSG auto box thing. Not overly impressed. Well built, yes, but equally as bland/boring/etc. as every other VAG 2.0T

Try getting parked in Sloane Square!

I'd rather have a car that gets noticed than something that blends into all of the other dreary motors on the roads to be honest.

Personally I think its kinda cool when kids get excited when they see my car - when they grow up they're going to say "I saw an Impreza when I was 6 and fell in love with cars". I'd be totally amazed if anyone could say their first car love was an Audi! Your Audi will draw "thats a nice car" comments, whereas the Impreza will get people saying "Wow! Thats great!", "look at that godaweful looking thing", and have small children pointing, smiling and irritating their parents for the next week about the "cool blue car" they saw. I know which I'd rather have personally! I do like having a car that evokes some emotion in people - I couldn't really care what that emotion is. People will forget that smart looking Audi driving past them in about 30 seconds.

I've stood at a fuel pump and had a chat with a Merc SLR owner about our respective cars, just one occasion of quiet a few - I somehow doubt anything other than an RS Audi gets that sort of connection between drivers.

As for Sloane Square - You can park a £200,000 obnoxious looking car there and its okay - you park a £10,000 obnoxious looking car their and its not. Because of a badge, not its performance - those people wouldn't have a clue if you took a Lambo's engine out and replaced it with a VAG 1.8T .

Had a trip to see my mate Ted today and on the return home I encountered a silver Audi TT. Stuck to my rear end and itching to pass something suddenly possessed me and I felt the urge to change into 3rd and push the accelerator to the floor. Didn't pull much distance at first, but as soon as we came to the first bend...whoooosh, I was away and he never caught me again after a few well timed overtaking manouveres
In the "race" above I never went over the national speed limit.
You are either a liar, or an idiot. We are discussing fast cars, and to suggest that an Audi TT was itching to pass you, but you changed down to 3rd, floored it, and you got away - without breaking 60mph!

we don't buy performance cars to race one another if you want to do that find a suitable track like Silverstone or Cadwell Park
Why do you buy a performance car then? Are you trying to say that you've owned 3 Imprezas, and never broken the speed limit? Many of us do find a suitable track. I've driven my Impreza round Silverstone and Brands Hatch several times. I also use some of my cars performance on the road, which although not big or clever, is the truth. Something you seem to be having trouble with.

1/ Last year after the initial hike in road fund for the top band to £210 I half expected yet another increase at next budget. Fact: today Golden Brown put that rate up to £400
2/ Chav rear lights. Right, what's going on here? I don't want to buy a brand new car which just looks like I have been and spent £29.99 on after market rear lights from Halfords.
3/ Image: There is a new breed now purchasing Subaru vehicles. Now I don't want to stereotype and I am not suggesting in any way that the good people on this forum can be likened to this image but as far as I am concerned there are now a lot of a "lesser character" now buying the "classics" which is harming the breed. I am sure the vast majority of these plebs would not know how to switch on a PC let alone obtain a Scoobynet account name.
4/ Build: Well, what can I say. After 6 months in my Audi A4 2.0T S line special edition I can say hand on heart there is no comparison. I know now all the Subaru purists will rant on about you don't look at the fireplace while stoking the fire, but let me tell you this, my new Audi is faster both in a straight line and in the wet AND around the Suffolk countryside than my previous MY02 prodrive wagon. The reason? Quattro all wheel drive, 220PS, and an engine which will rev furiously to the red line and return mid 30's mpg. All aluminium chassis components help keep the weight down. Oh, and when I am visiting the local garden centre on a Sunday I get looks of admiration rather than disdain.

In conclusion Subaru need to catch up. The competition is now very very fierce. Put away your WRC blue tinted spectacles (they never win any rallies now anyway so whats the point) and go and test drive one of these fine cars:

1/ Golf GTI
2/ Audi 2.0T S line quattro special edition (220PS)
3/ Audi S3
4/ Golf R32
Sorry, but I have one thing to say to you:
Bugger off. I love Subaru with a passion despite the crap build quality, a Subaru is a Subaru, nothing comes close to the feeling you get from driving an Impreza, nothing comes close to the overall package of a Subaru. Have fun in your bloody Audi, you don't need to tell us why you have left Subaru ownership.

Scott.

I have read the thread, and your "initial comments" (ie, the comments in your first post, or at least on the first page of this thread) do not state "have you tried any of the newer performance cars because actually they are quite good". What leads you to believe that I have limited intellectual skills? You seem to be randomly insulting people, whom you know nothing about.

Thumbs down

Old boys read Autocar, young stallions read Evo magazine ... think you'll find that the ancient RB5 stuffed the S3 into the weeds a few years back. This is a FACT. Current JDM STi's will do the same with the new S3.

Just to jump on this German praising band wagon.
Last year I purchased a BMW 120D M sport. Its a lovely car, drives well, fabulous build quality, pulls very well and has 340ft lbs of torque right out of the factory.

Its a wonderful everyday car. Would I swap a classic subaru impreza for it? Absolutely not thats why there is still one parked in the garage. Its currently circa 400bhp and will soon be circa 500. Power aside its more fun to drive, and i will never part with it. I will change the BMW in a couple of years for something else probably an Audi but it will be either an S or RS model but comparing a run of the mill Audi to an Impreza is utterly pointless they are totally different types of car.

Blu i agree with some of what you written but coming on to an impreza forum and slagging them off, whether you are a seasoned member or not makes you a bit of a tool in my book. Go and join your audi forum and tell them how great you all are because you drive an Audi.

This all troubles me greatly.
As a noobish member to the scoob family (although in my late 30's I've been through a few hot hatches and performance saloons) I did'nt know such shallow people have been active on this forum for so long.
Like many have said "horses for courses".

Put it like this:
I like brunets (coz I married a blonde),
My mate likes blondes,
My other mate likes redheads, I however made the mistake of dating a redhead that was nuts and I’m still paying for it.

Result...
I like a car that gives me something different to what i've had for the last 15 years.
My mate just wants to drive fast and doesn’t care about the long term.
My other mate drives an alfa!

Cars are different to different people depending on their preference and experience.

Don’t go claiming you've seen the light and everyone else is wrong. Your light may be the next mans worst nightmare.

Cars are different, people are different, get over it and just be happy without having to try and rub peoples noses in to whatever any of you feel is "right"!

Unfortunately, in my opinion this is a negative! Its one of the reasons I got rid of the Impreza. The only admiring attention it actually gets is from 6 yr olds or other Impreza drivers......if I started getting looks from 6 foot leggy brunettes it might be different, but sadly its not....

I know many people say that its how 'you' feel, and your own 'personal experience' when driving it, and it doesnt matter what other people think. But when your labelled the '<insert appropriate profanity> with the Impreza' it wears you down after a while....

Prove it, cause the figures I have puts the S3 often on par with the scooby, if not beating it alot of the time. I can back my statements up with evidence, can you?

Ha ha ha: To all those out here who don't know Audiknob, he drives a VOLVO S40 and has never stepped into an Audi let alone driven one.

He will (if given long enough) find a cut and paste (usually out of context and usually from some obscure American site) to "prove" his points. In fact he was banned recently for annoying so many people!

He has no credibility.

Audiknob: Why do you post on Scoobynet if you hate Scoobys?
