One of the reasons i rarely post on this site anymore is because of these anti-subaru ***-heads. We're all here or were at some point because we love(d) the impreza and we have/had something in common.
Neither Skyline forum's or Passionford have these kinds of threads because who really cares if they spank one, whereas this is a popular theme here.

Threads like these are a compliment to Subaru, they made a benchmark car in the classic that still to this day people feel compelled to compare to this that and the other. There are a handful of cars like the 911 or M3 that people hold in such high regard and we should all be happy little those with small ***** feel the need to put the impreza down.

Well said mate. I'm not a Subaru owner, but I consider myself a petrol head, and any petrolhead must respect the Subaru's abilities even if it is not the car for them.

2/ Chav rear lights. Right, what's going on here? I don't want to buy a brand new car which just looks like I have been and spent £29.99 on after market rear lights from Halfords.
3/ Image: There is a new breed now purchasing Subaru vehicles. Now I don't want to stereotype and I am not suggesting in any way that the good people on this forum can be likened to this image but as far as I am concerned there are now a lot of a "lesser character" now buying the "classics" which is harming the breed. I am sure the vast majority of these plebs would not know how to switch on a PC let alone obtain a Scoobynet account name.
4/ Build: Well, what can I say. After 6 months in my Audi A4 2.0T S line special edition I can say hand on heart there is no comparison. I know now all the Subaru purists will rant on about you don't look at the fireplace while stoking the fire, but let me tell you this, my new Audi is faster both in a straight line and in the wet AND around the Suffolk countryside than my previous MY02 prodrive wagon. The reason? Quattro all wheel drive, 220PS, and an engine which will rev furiously to the red line and return mid 30's mpg. All aluminium chassis components help keep the weight down. Oh, and when I am visiting the local garden centre on a Sunday I get looks of admiration rather than disdain.

In conclusion Subaru need to catch up. The competition is now very very fierce. Put away your WRC blue tinted spectacles (they never win any rallies now anyway so whats the point) and go and test drive one of these fine cars:

1/ Golf GTI
2/ Audi 2.0T S line quattro special edition (220PS)
3/ Audi S3
4/ Golf R32
You forgot to put the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution on the list because that's better that EVERYTHING!!!

Sorry couldn't help it

Ha ha what a joke.

This is what is commonly known as a "large porky pie". Based on your posts in Other Marques I think everyone has established you have zero first hand knowledge of any Audis.

Personally I think its kinda cool when kids get excited when they see my car - when they grow up they're going to say "I saw an Impreza when I was 6 and fell in love with cars". I'd be totally amazed if anyone could say their first car love was an Audi! Your Audi will draw "thats a nice car" comments, whereas the Impreza will get people saying "Wow! Thats great!", "look at that godaweful looking thing", and have small children pointing, smiling and irritating their parents for the next week about the "cool blue car" they saw. I know which I'd rather have personally! I do like having a car that evokes some emotion in people - I couldn't really care what that emotion is. People will forget that smart looking Audi driving past them in about 30 seconds.

I've stood at a fuel pump and had a chat with a Merc SLR owner about our respective cars, just one occasion of quiet a few - I somehow doubt anything other than an RS Audi gets that sort of connection between drivers.

As for Sloane Square - You can park a £200,000 obnoxious looking car there and its okay - you park a £10,000 obnoxious looking car their and its not. Because of a badge, not its performance - those people wouldn't have a clue if you took a Lambo's engine out and replaced it with a VAG 1.8T .
Depends where you live chum. If you live on a council estate then yes you will get young children drooling over your car. If you live in leafy suburbs or out in the country you get kids walking past your drive muttering "oh I hate those Subaru's now they are soooo last week!!!

To be honest I tired of working class kids "bothering me" everytime I stepped out of my car in every town centre in Suffolk. If seeing kids excited at your car is your kind of thing then maybe you should be put on the sex offenders register

Exactly why I decided to give mine up The brand has been "cheapened" to say the least, once it was stealthy now it's just plain rude boy.

Excuse me pleb, who do you think you are talking to? Don't think that I haven't noticed your location comments on the left of your posts: "Location: In a maelstrom of drug and alcohol induced violence!"

Mmmm, sums it up really, and YOU are accusing me of coming back from the pub? I have actually just logged on after helping to clear up after a charity event at our village hall in aid of sufferers of Cerebral Palsy

Don't stereotype me with what appears to be the "average" Subaru owner on this thread these days. Oh how things go down hill fast

No it isn't. Needs an oil change every 4000 miles The list of cars I made were cars which are usable everyday. If we are going to put the BEST cars there then why don't we just go the full hog and list a Bugatti Yeyron as 1st?

You do not buy a car to "stuff" another car. It appears your body left school but your mind is still in the classroom An NEW S3 will be worth MORE in 3 years time than an Impreza FACT. Don't try and defend yourself over this issue either because I have heard UK dealers are now offering Type D's for £5k under list. That is wonderful for residuals isn't it? For your information my local Audi centre only has eight S3's allocated this year!! Quite frankly that will make current residual values bullet proof. The S3 IS a better car than any Impreza bar the RB5, P1 or WR1. They are the TRUE classic Impreza's any other is a pretender. Two words we haven't brought up yet are "looks" and "style", Audi cars have these in abundance. What have Subaru have to offer since the mighty P1? The WR1 okay, but the rest are ugly pretenders. Once upon a time the Impreza was a rare being only known to those "in the know". I remember my first MY98 and how people had no idea what it was yet this seemed to be the charm of owning one. Nowadays everybody knows what a Subaru is

It's not all abour residuals though is it Bluto? The allure of any car is an emotive and personal thing which is subject to varying objectivity. You are now at a stage where you prefer the Audi, in days gone you would have defended the Impreza because you owned and more importantly felt passionate about it. You have attracted a lot of flak some justified some not, I think certain people have gone over the top in their vitriol against you. However these people are passionate about their Imprezas, and probably consider your comments a personal attack. Given the shenanigans of the preceding eight pages I think (and I'm sure you'll agree) that all objectivity has gone out of the window. This thread has now become a tirade of personal insults and isn't going to resolve anything.

I think the big mistake most of the people here are making is generalisation.

Although I agree, that as the classics have becomne for affordable they may have fell into hands that may not be genuinely passionate about the 'brand' i.e. neons on a bloody P1!! Sacriledge- its a performance car!

I own a 3.0D BMW X5. It is easily the best car I have owned- quality, solid, reliable. It is fantastic- similar to the audis i would imagine.

However- I believe possibly 'regression' has led me to get a P1. I laugh at the 'bright' light. Its utter uselessness and the fact it feels like is going to fall off everytime I press it. I am fortunate to be able to have both cars- and they serve two totally different purposes. The BM is brilliant at what it does- but I don't feel its soul. The P1 has lots of soul- but also lots of annoying whines and components that I just laugh at. BM gets me home safe, I never want to get home in my P1- just keep going round the block (one more time!), until my back hurts too much!!!

Either way don't generalise on the character of the person- by the car they drive, or what that car may represent.

And let me tell you, once you've owned a subaru- no car will ever be the same!

A new S3 costs more that an Impreza, so why shouldn't it be worth more in 3 years? You can get £5k off an Impreza remember, which makes it great value. I have an MY00 WRX, which cost me £19k 7 years ago. On the basis that it was so cheap, it has depreciated less than any new 250+ bhp Audi in that time. And if you bought an Impreza for £15k now, it would depreciate less in the next 5 years than an Audi S3.

For your information my local Audi centre only has eight S3's allocated this year!! Quite frankly that will make current residual values bullet proof.
Firstly, if you are delighted with the car you buy, you wouldn't consider selling it after a few years (unless you did 20k miles/year +, and had to change regularly, in which case you'd buy something else), so who cares what the residuals would be. I've never thought of selling mine, I like it too much (I know you've said you like the classic Impreza, but whatever car you buy, you presumably like it, so there's no need to move on every 3 years.
Secondly, to think that your residuals are bullet proof is naive. Audi is in the business of making profit, and will not limit the cars they produce like Ferrari. The S3 will sell a lot, the car will be improved, and residuals will fall.
The S3 IS a better car than any Impreza bar the RB5, P1 or WR1. They are the TRUE classic Impreza's any other is a pretender.
There is little difference between the RB5, P1, and MY00 STi, and you seem to be forgetting the 22B, which was a very nice car.

Sc00by - Nicely put fella ^^^

One of many (including me) who have tried to chip in with a voice of reason.

Blu has a bloody cheek accusing people of ignorance etc etc considering some of the classic statements he's contributed to this thread.........
"If seeing kids excited at your car is your kind of thing then maybe you should be put on the sex offenders register"....... mmmmm. Nice comment.

A resonable original post altough put fairly arrogantly and its gone down hill from there. Some of that in response to feisty replies, but what did you expect given some of your statements on a Subaru forum?!

Enjoy your Impreza's guys n gals. Anyone who really doesn't like them doesn't need to be here.

I think maybe if we all let the thread die a death now, our charismatically challenged friend will totter off in to the night.

Here's hoping

Nighty night

Ooooooooohhhh! Time of the month is it?!

Get a sense of humour mate. It was a bit of friendly banter. I'm not siding with anyone about this, I was just trying to break up the monotomy of the ever repeated "My new car is better than your old car!" bollox.

I used to own an Impreza, I loved every minute of it, I've now got an Evo, and am enjoying that even more if the truth be known, but I don't come on here saying it's the best thing since sliced bread... I save that for the Evo forums

Chill out mate Don't bite.....It's what they want you to do!

Why is the RB5 there? It's just a standard classic with a few non performance extras on it.

If you're on about true classic Imprezas, then the only car that's going to be worth anything in years to come will be the 22b. Even then they won't be worth a lot of money. I bought and sold my old uk 22b last year for around 23k. The same car has lost over half its previous sale price (new 39k and was sold after one owner for 45k IIRC.)

What's the point posting about a MTM S3?

Nevertheless for once your mindless cut and paste has actually been of some interest:

1. I'm really surprised at just how slow a MTM S3 is. Same time as a standard 645i which is not really designed to lap tracks.

2. Also surprised the E39 M5 and RS6 have the same lap times. I would have thought 50bhp, more torque, 4WD and about five year's more development time (and knowing what the competition is) would have given a faster car... interesting.

3. AND THE MOST INTERESTING: The now discontinued M3 convertible laps faster than the brand new RS4!!! You would have thought the additional rigidity, and extra 71bhp, 2 cylinders and five year's development time would have resulted in a faster car.

Its like philosophers say: Give an infinite number of monkeys a typewriter and an infinite period of time one of them will end up typing the full works of Shakespeare. You are proving this right: give Audilover enough time and he will (accidentally of course) end up posting something interesting.
