"Lol. no problem bro, people just need to be educated some times...."

So you still think that that to "get an education" is grammatically incorrect then? If so you are the one who needs an education.

As I said earlier, there are plenty of grammatically correct ways to say the same thing. Don't be scared to admit that you are wrong, it's not a failing.

I don't deny that that is correct, my simple point is that either sentence is valid, R4lly however thinks that you can only use the word "get" if it is in relation to buying something.

Please feel free to look back at previous posts before apologising.

I'd keep quiet if I were you DCI, you were the one who thought the sentence was wrong in the first place, you're only highlighting your own ignorance.

No worries Steve, if only some of the others were so honourable.

Is Moses still on here then? I can highly recommend ignoring him!

Dudda po's comment was Irony in this post.

Given he is such a pedantic **** I doubt he meant irony of this post, or he would have typed that instead.

Unless of course you're both just really thick, and over compensating

I stand by my previous post, that you sir, are an uneducated simpleton

"get an education" and you "go for help" you don't "get help" unless you're a scouser

Basically, all you are saying is that for every valid use of the word "get", you can find another word to substitute it.

Here I'll give you another:

I want to get drunk = I want to obtain a state of drunkenness

Hey do you mind - I'm supposed to be the village pedant

I think your idea to combine the pedant role with the village idiot role isn't really working though

Sorry Suresh, you'll have to fight that one out with BP

I'm not suggesting Bubba is an idiot, just that he's not as clever as he thinks he is

What no more arguments, I accept your apology then.

My life is outside of work, while I'm at work, Scoobynet is ideal for passing the day. Thanks for the advice though.

Talking

Classic...

Naively think to myself, how the hell can this thread be running to 4 pages, must be an interesting slant or some update on the murder investigation

Turns out it's nothing more than the usual clowns fighting amongst themselves, page after page with little to do with the initial post.

What a surprise

Thought the exact same thing, avoided this thread until about 10 minutes ago and thought there must be something interesting in there for it to be at the top all day only to see a bunch of girls play fighting

Made my day when I read this, are you the same R4lly who said you can only get something by buying it?

I'm just off to buy away from Scoobynet a bit more then.

If Scoobynet had a 'post of the day' smiley, this would be a good place to be using it.

What if you pay for a tutor. Do you "get" and education then...

I reckon if you pay for it, you'd "get" a better education, but what if you "get" a bad tutor?

Or would that have to be "receive bad tutoring"?

Writing stylish prose is not a matter of slavishly following the rules. It's about knowing the rules, and how and when to break them

Anyway, I disagree with you on the "get" point. It's possible to "get educated", and in some cases (e.g. when writing for impact) writing "Get an education!" would stand out more.

As Billy Connolly said, there's no real gramatically-correct equivalent for "**** off". It certainly isn't "go away".
