I've been a Subaru owner for 10 years this Summer, from early classics to new age JDM STi.

But I WON'T be buying a hot hatch Impreza.

I want a 4 door saloon .....................the new EVO X looks just right too.

i like it as itl save me money. theres no way in hell id swap my blobeye for that! either were all stuck in a rut or subaru have really lost the plot.

So they make a lighter Car. 2 or 4 door hatchback, better Power to weight and your still not happy



When the clock counts down you may notice a few thing about the new Scoob (Toyota's infleuence)

1) it won't be a WRX or STi
2) One model may be Dual Fuel
3) the other may be Diesel or Bio Fuel

I don't know what the "shock horror" effect of all this is about, hasn't it been reported for quite some time that the new model was likely to be a hatch? I mean the spy shots from donkies ages ago were of a hatch.

If the saloon is still to be made, what's the problem anyway? Surely it's just another string to the bow for Subaru, the hatchback market is ******* huge! Besides, as Tony says, it'll be lighter, probably better handing, and more than likely quicker than the current bunch!

ffs does anyone buy an Impreza on looks? take away the spoilers, vents, wings & blistered arches & what are you left with? ...yep a pretty sh1te looking Jap saloon ...as for the anti 'hot hatch' brigade, I guess the Integralé, GtiR & Escort Cosworth fall into that bracket too?

Looks like a hoax to me (phew) as the scoop doesn't match up from the side on shot, to the frontal shot. To me it looks like the side on shows a tiny scoop further down the bonnet. Im probably wrong though.

Does anyone know when we will actually see this thing for real?

One of the reasons I bought my Classic was for the looks, it looks fantastic, a sort of mean, "don't mess with me" understated look.

This new one looks hoorible, what's with the front grille, that's straight off a cruiser isn't it?

No way! They cannot be pictures of the real car!? After spending a day at Roger Clarks Motorsport (very nice) I was planning a move back to the brand, but a hatchback? I'd grown out of driving hatchbacks by the time I was 21. IMHO hatchbacks are for spotty teenagers or very young men. An opinion shared by most of my peers aged 27 to 32.

And a ugly hatchback to boot. Its is fair to say you do not buy a Subaru for the looks alone. But if you think a car is ugly you will not buy it just because it is fast. I moved away from the marque when they introduced the bugeye, and I'll not buy anything that looks even more nasty.

And just when I thought they were getting the image back again

The thing is though, Subaru like everyone else, wants to increase their sales. To do this in europe means being a 5 door hatch. (There is a 4 door but this will not be for the euro market).

Also means that to appeal to more people means having more "cooking" models and a diesel.

I think that sometime we all get carried away and look at things from our narrow point of view and not realise that they are a business selling cars - and if they can increase that, they will.

Who says the STI isn't going to look like that? It might do.. just like most hot hatches to look at you can tell it's from the same lineage as the rest of it's lesser siblings, but has all the bells and whistles hanging on it to make it look quite different.

Actually I quite like that STI picture, other than the rear spoiler, which just looks a bolted on afterthought. The front end looks suitably menacing though, although it could probably use a more aggressive splitter.

i think the engine in that pic is the new deisel unit which may explain the little intercooler,lack of dump valve and the plastic inlet manifold.
