My dome nuts look far more vicious than they actually are & are more rounded than a square edged nut. I will bring it to the Posers so you can have a look.

I think I can get those yellow plastic bolts from my local parts place. If I get time tomorrow I will cut a modified mount out using Steve's idea with the plaque in the lower position & see how that looks.

Regards the classic's mount,it may work if it is stepped so it comes out of the recess & then follows the line of the bumper.

Not knowing the classics to well, how deep is the recess. The reason i ask is it it possible for owners of classics to put a blank number plate behind the plaque mount to bring it out in line with the bumper a little more?

ie you will have:

bumper > blank number plate > plaque plate > Standard number plate

As i say, just an idea if thats all that is needed so we can all have the same style of mounting. Club uniformity and all that

Too late mate.

After much Research & Development I think I have come up with the ultimate design solution.

"Rally Plaque Mk 3 Super-soft Version"

However as I didn't know how you lot would take to that design I also did this one using Tissy's idea of lowering it. I have also swapped the dome nuts for plastic number plate bolts which are in everyday use on the road.

"Revised Tissy design"

"Early Mark 1 design"

So what do we reckon?

I prefer the cotton wool one but I cannot guarantee it holding together once reaching a generous 70 mph cruising speed.

The lowered revised Tissy one clears the headlight better & is less obtrusive so gets my

I prefer the original one personally, but understand the need for it to not obstruct the headlight at all, so I am happy with the revised design.

I have got 12 packs (4 nuts & bolts per pack) of black plastic number plate bolts ready to fit the plaques to the mounts. There are enough left to mount the number plate as well if needed although I would recommend steel bolts or screws to cope with the extra plate. The shop will refund me for any unopened packs we don't use.

My front index plate is stuck on (as i don't like screws), so i guess i can still screw the plate to the bumper using the normal method and then just stick the plate on the top of the mounting plate.

That way, when finished, i can re-stick the index plate back to the bumper as it originally was.

Just asking as i haven't seen the mounting plate in the flesh yet but they do look good.

Well done FlatEric and Spec'c'57

The only problem would be the bolts that you mounted it with tho... i might be able to put a dimple in the mount so the bolts sat flush'ish if i put the holes in... leave it with me...

Just use machine screws with countersunk heads.Ones with a wide but low profile head. Then use the foam type double sided tape to give the little bit of clearance needed when sticking the number plate on the mount.

I had the same with mine. The velcro covered the two threaded holes.

I have made a cardboard template for my holes spacing (MY03 OE bumper) but they may not be the same across all MYs/all bumper types. That's why I had not drilled any holes - yet.

My idea was to just get a universal "one size fits all" mount made quickly & simply in the first instance. Then the finer tuning, drilling holes etc., I was going to leave to each individual as each mount may need to be slightly tailored to fit each car.

I am more than happy to help anyone & fit these round mine. Tiny & Fozz have said that they may take that as an option one weekend. Bring your other halves & drop them at Freeport (5 mins from me) & make a day of it if you like.

We can sort out at the Lodge who wants to do what. Take away & have a go yourself or I take & prepare & help you fit. I will bring the plastic nuts & bolts that fix the plaque to the mount for the "take away have-a-goers".
