Must admit I 've been avoiding SN for the last while as the trolls, thickos and the my car is faster/better/shinier/louder etc etc folks about.
The fun went out of it for me.

I wouldn't write ScoobyNet off just yet. People come and go as their lives move on, and I know many on here who've taken a long break before returning again. There's a cycle.
Luckily, I have sufficient interest in several forums which keep me interested, but things have been difficult lately, hence the infraction system etc. I think it will pick up again.
On a more general note, broadband has a lot to answer for. So many people have fast access, many of whom have nothing helpful or interesting to say. The signal to noise ratio has increased on just about every site on my favourites list. You can find out just about anything on the interent now, but knowing which asnwer is correct out of twenty ill-informed responses (often from people who haven't even bothered to read the thread) is like wading through treacle.
This might lead to subscription-funded sites, which would would cut out the crap, but would lead to a drastic reduction in traffic.
The interent is still evolving, but God knows where

Still think a good argument will get more people interested!
When the infraction system came into force, that caused loads of new threads and much more traffic. Makes the figures look good for the advertisers

Just goes to show how different opinions can be. In my opinion and observation, the infration system has been at least partly responsible for preventing people getting into contentious arguments, as there will always be some **** whose only effective comeback is the infraction button.
