Mr Manchester......

No - but questions may be asked about your gender if you continue with your somewhat primitive and inane responses.... Are you old enough to drive child ?

Threats - ooooooh please! Thats a new one on the BBS.... Hope to meet you too Lets just hope it isnt on the end of my endoscope......

Jesus - no wonder people are getting worried about this BBS with prats like you on it....

STOP IT

We all like cars, and in these days of giant car related taxes and inadequate roads the more of us there are the better surely.

So as long as we don't drive like tw@ts who cares...

I suppose my car would be classed as a maxpower car, a nova with bodykit, suits the car, i never buy maxpower and dont even read it.
but the best bit is when i beat stuck up scooby and porsche owners with it. 2.0 16v engine on throttle bodies soon puts them in their place.
I mod mine because i want to, i want to be individual, and i like novas. For the money i have spent i could have bought a scooby, but it would look like everyother one on the road (blue with gold wheels , i can use stereotypes too )
(disclaimer: not all scooby or porsche owners are stuck up, but you know there are some.)

At the end of the day theres always someone somewhere whos faster'looks better'and bigger than you! ect ect' All because its down to the owners choice and wot he/she likes. And if there happy then why does it care. u always get the toss pots who enjoy running others down!
For the record i have a nova too. It is in excess of 200bhp also.
And would show a few scooby owners up.(ian agreed there does seem to be a few stuck up ones who need a lesson taught) but again theres alot of good scooby owners.
I have played with the idea of buying one myself'but am waiting 12 months before i think of buying a supra instead!
Im not a max pooper either!
thats better now its of me chest.

funny or what

My 2p's worth...

1. People make comments like 'show scoobies up with my Nova' etc but why do you feel the need to do it? I personally couldn't care less if I get 'beaten' by a Nova/RS Turbo/R5 Turbo as I know that I love my car (as they love the Nova etc) and that it's not a *shopping car* with one or two modifications.

2. Why is it that most of the Nova/RST owners I run across feel the need to have a go? Last night someone in a 1.3SR Nova (really quite nice and tasteful) decided to have a go... sigh. I am pretty convinced that a massive percentage of the modified Nova's that I come across are driven by morons that often end up driving dangerously in order to 'have a go'. This was demonstrated a while back in my WRX. A 'maxed' (should that be 'minned'?) Nova was inside my boot so I dropped it a cog and left it, he caught up along a bendy stretch of road... So what was I to do? slow down and risk him hitting me or get through the bends and keeping a safe distance? I chose the latter and he tried to! Could the Nova corner??? erm, no...... get to know the ability of yourself and your car as you put other people at risk through incompetence and inexperience.

3. Where is the fun in being fast in a straight line? Classic example was a Renault 5 Turbo that I had a bit of fun with in Coventry down a good-wide twisty road with roundabouts. He was *really* quick in a straight line but when it came to a bend or roundabout it was a case of 'tip-toe-tip-toe'... heh, bring your shed shopping car down a backlane chimps

4. I *hate* seeing Nova's (in particular...they are my pet hate anyway so I thought I'd pick on the horrible little things ) with Impreza bonnet vents etc, wonder where they got it from?

5. 'Max Power' drivers look funny with the cap on, sitting forward (or on the floor so you can just see a head poking out).. bl00dy chimps

6. Why can't we all just be friends? yeh right

Seriously tho, some people I've met with 'maxed' motors are great guys and have a genuine interest in cars (no matter what the car, which is how it should be) but others are just complete a55holes, guess it's the same for pretty much every car on the road but in all honesty every scooby owner I've met has been really cool, the same can't be said of the RST/Nova crowd. In fact this BBS and the way the owners are was a bit of a factor in getting another Impreza - it's a great community and really cool to be a part of.

Last thing - people talk about scooby owners being up themselves, erm, listen to the Nova/RST/whatever crowd! 'I beat a scooby', 'I'll show em' etc, bunch o'tw@ts, is that all that matters???? do you go out 'hunting' us???? bring it on chimps

M

Who's up for doing a ritual burning of Nova's and 'Max Power' magazine?

seems like some of you think that you shouldn't modify your car to go quicker (probably the same people with their ppp's) and should buy something quick in the first place....well why didn't you get a "proper" car like a skyline then?

that Max powered Scoob is alright I suppose, but I've grown out of such a pimp mobile look - I prefer my 14 yr old astra, which is why I've held on to it to tinker with and add impreza parts to, despite the fact I could go buy a new scoob (yes, of the non 1/20th scale ) tomorrow - far more fun to pretend to be just another tarted up car with big alloys

Agree with sKunk's early post on the subject. Stop being so pompous. Most people can't afford 5 figure performance cars, particularly youngsters.

Some people just don't have a clue

I like to think I've grown out of the max power thing now. However - when I was 17 with 300 quid to spend on a car, my performance option where fairly limited. I've maxed most of the cars I owned including the scoob. Has anyone added a big spolier for anything other than appearance? Gastro - you are a snob. It is people like you who start the flame wars with other boards which are soooooooooooooooooo boring. Wise up

each to his own I say. There is a fella near me with a rather interesting purple punto. now it does look a little over the top, but it has been done rather well.

many people can and do accuse me of being a max power boy, why? well, you seen my car recently? channel tunnel extra hanging out the back, blacked out windows, extra bonnet scoops, quad headlamps, mini neon lights inside, etc.. see what I mean? now, apart from the quads and scoops, I did not mod it, honest guv it was the guy in japan that owned it before me!

Basically, some of them are done in good taste, some not, it's all in the eye of the beholder. if you want to bodykit up your 1.0 micra then go ahead, guess it's the same as us decatting and fitting an induction kit, just that this costs us more than it would if we had, corsas/novas etc..

As someone above said in japan the scoob is like an xr2 must be something to do with the fact that when you upgrade the power the engine and no 3 piston seem to be made from the finest cadurys chocolate, wise up dicks drive scoobs just as dangerously as dicks that drive lax power cars.

Also the scoob is a tarted up shopping car as well or i take it they dont have the impreza 1.6 or the legendary sport I guess the scooby is just a sport model with a turbo bolted on then. Wise up pal you only own a Polo which isnt a performance car and if you could afford a scoob or a porsche why arent you driving one?

CT get with it dude!

I honestly don't care about being 'beaten' by a Nova etc, my jibe at them was purely because I think they are sacks of ****. My main problem tho is that most of the run-ins I have with 'maxed' Nova's result in the *** driving them putting people in danger. Would I drive my Impreza right up someones **** in an attempt to get them to go for it? NO. So why do some pr1cks think it's their right to do so, potentially putting myself and often my other half at risk?

Also... I know there are cars around that will easily beat an Impreza but do I go driving right up behind them in a lame attempt to get them to go for it? N O

As for your handling comment some people do get over-condfident but that is not a fault of the car, go and read some reviews and you might just learn something ( one with a Carerra 4, Elise and some other exotic stuff leaps to mind, guess what came out on top? ).

Re: the new scooby's, I quite like them, although I happen to prefer the older shape

As for Scooby's being in such good condition when they are old, well, correct me if I am wrong but there are some stunning 93/94 Impreza's around... what a silly comment!

oh, and re: the Skyline if I had wanted one I would have bought one, I didn't want one which is why I got the Impreza.

M

I think its a bit of a generalisation to say that all maxed/tastefully moddifed (delete as per point of view) Novas are driven by idiots. I honestly dont get a problem from Novas/Escorts etc. in my Impreza. Get far more from BMWs etc. Now I certainly wouldnt rise to any sort of challenge and most certainly wouldn't have to give it all the beasn on the A14 the other day just beacuse someone in a Z3 thought they could leave me for dead

I would have to admit when younger in my Civic VTi to hoping that any nearby golf GTi would think that they could out accelerate me. As they invariably couldn't. All done on private roads of course.

Everyone has to start somewhere. So long as they haven't nicked the bits good luck to them.

polarbearit,
just read this thread in completeness, you have a knight rider light, cool! fancy selling it?? Someone mentioned the otherweek about fitting such a thing to the blackbeast, and being the tasteful modifier I am think this would be a real crowd pleaser!

I don't think that *all* Nova/RST/R5/etc drivers are ****, far from it I just think that a proportion of them are and they are the ones who give the other guys a bad name. Seriously tho, we can only go by what we know and I tend to think oh-no when I see one if you see what I mean.

And lets be honest, the 'Max-ish' magazines don't help really as they encourage a55h0l3 like behaviour.

no harm done and it's all in the quest for fun eh

Agree with MrSmith here. I would have thought that anyone who has never attempted to 'toy' with a car they have owned, probably isn't really an enthusiast at all. It's all horses dor courses really. Trying to make your car look like something it isn't really is a waste of time. Making a car look tasteful and individual on the other hand I'm all for. It depends what gives you satisfaction. When I was 17 it was a Janspeed exhaust on my mini 1000 with wolfrace wheels as I couldn't afford anything else. Now, after several other cars, it's a scooby but I have the money to spend where I really want the improvements, not just where I can afford it. One man's wide arched, supercharged, be-spoilered Nova is another man's Porsche Carrera 4. People often frown at those who would spend £15k on a 1989 Nova GTE and not buy 'something better' in the first place. Why though? It just means that person gets the most bang for his buck modifying their car. Good luck to them...enjoy!

re-reading this thread as its quite interesting, I think dsmith hit the nail on the head (page 1) when he / she says those who slate the max power boys are those who probably haven't been on the bottom rung of the car ladder. Plenty of us when young, or even as we grew older had to do the best we could with limited resources. Maybe some others had silver spoons in their mouths? I dunno. silver spoons often cause cr@ppy attitudes like we see here sometimes though.

Juan you are talking out of your rear-end mate, I for one (and no doubt pretty much everone) have most certainly been on the bottom-rung (on the floor in my case)!
how's this strike you for a bottom rung:-

Y-plate 4-speed 1.6L Cavalier with knackered exhaust and knackered big-ends and erm, generally knackered!

I got my Impreza because of hard work, nothing to do with a silver spoon at all.

what a stupid statement to make.

mattski2,

and when you had your cavalier did you try to make it look better at all, or try to improve its performance in any way?

if yes then you can see why the current crop of max power boys do what they do

if no then you're not so into your cars as they are. or are you just into posh cars?

Also, I guess it depends on what you define the bottom of the ladder to be. For some its going to be running any car at all while on the dole. For me it was having to do 2 crappy jobs at the same time just to pay the rent and the best mods I could afford was a tin of silver paint for my cortina's wheels. unemployment was not even an option or I would have had nowhere to live.

Incidently, I was not implying most people here had the silver spoon treatment, just the odd one like tosrag or whatever his name was who started the thread

p.s. you think a 1.6 cav is bad. you wanna try one with a 1.3 lump in it like one of my many motoring 'joys'

People getting challenged in their scoob's? Is this something to do with geography?

Over the last year of delighted Scoob ownership I can point to no incidents of challenge really. Some nice comments and some pointing but then we in Devon have only recently got to grips with the internal combustion engine, electricity, oh and not marrying cousins....

Is there more trouble in the Midlands/South East?

Oh and.....my first set of wheels was a 2CV, cheap to run insure but still got done for speeding in it - Plod actually congratulated me for achieving 46 in a 30!

We all have to start soemwhere and the sacoob is now the product of a fu^k of a lot of hard work

so there
