Are the 6 speeder Jap ratio's 1 to 4 much the same as an RA from a classic?
Or to be more accurate:

Type R box on 4:444/1 to 4th = Jap 6 speeder on 1:3.99/1 to 4th (ish)?
Daz: did you notice the extra weight at all?

Graham.

Early boxes do use a smaller woodruff key on 5th, and these can break.

As Floyd has said, you can just fit an up rated PPG 3rd-4th helical, or straight cut syncro kit,

Or, if you like it a little quieter, but also like drag racing, you can fit a straight cut 1st-2nd, and a helical 3rd-4th !!!

Either way, there are combinations to suit most people.

Mark.

It broke the woodruff key on 5th gear and damaged both gears.

Andrew,

That can be addressed.

Graham RE: weight.

I can honestly say that the only time i notice the difference in weight is when I am either taking it off or refitting the bugger.

I originally removed it from My RB5 about 6 months after Roger Clark fitted it.

This was to put it on the white turbo 2000 i have now.

Then I took it off again to get the fourth gear syncro problem fixed and obviously put it back on after the repairs.

The weight, when fitting the 6 speed gearbox with the height clearance of the car on axle stands and no one to help me, certainly becomes an issue then. However on the road you really don't notice it.

I guess its like when you have a car full of fuel and a near empty tank you dont notice the difference one bit.

The sum of all parts rule comes to play here i suppose. Indiviual weight saving techniques arent noticed much but slap them altogether and you have a different car altogether.

Thanks Daz, thought as much!
Doing a gearbox on stands on your own is no joke, I've done it 4 times now...
