Bought my 911T (but the other type of T) in 88, married by then, had a daughter by then, had (have) a huge mortage by then and just 40, so bi focals and a little grey appearing too...
Started a good well paid job mind.
You see 911 drivers like to talk about themselves as much as Subaru drivers do.

In my experience
Very broad generalisations as there are many different flavours of car and driver. But
Scoob - better all round road car for all conditions. One of the ultimate day to day performance cars. Very predicatble on the limits of grip. Which is why I would always choose one over a porker.
Porkers - track and autobahn animals - not so say you cant drive it round a bend quick. RWD - so more oversteary fun than a scoob - but also more potential for finding the hedge backwards.
Scoob v 911 in a straight line or big sweeping curves - up to 120ish not too much in it. After 120 watch the 911 pull away. I was doing a 100mph on the autobahn last week and one came past me. It was like I was standing still. estimated speed of the 911 close to 200mph - I kid you not. It was so quick I couldnīt even see what flavour it was!
Scoob v 911 in terms of quality. You need to modify a scoob to turn it from a very good car into a great car. The 911 is great out of the box. Enough said.
Scoob v 911. Sound both flat layout engines. The scoob with the right exhaust sounds loads better. Three old school 911s turned up the other day and they did sound great like a sports car should do. The modern ones of which I come across alot sound like a turbo charged bacon slicer.

If you can afford a 911 Turbo you can afford another car to transport kids.
Try not to convince yourselfs that there are people out there who bought a 25k Impreza rather that a Ģ100k 911 turbo as there kids would not fit in the back.

Is it because you don't have a 'real' porsche?
I was being serious about the image. Coupes aren't really my bag, hence the reason I've never owned a two door.
911's are generally owned by city boys like my brother in law (C4 cab) or the grey haired mid-life crisis brigade (like my uncle). You'll need to frequent 'the ring' if you ever want to see one being driven with any verve as over here they're all about the show not the go.

I do feel slightly embarrassed when asked what car I drive. I immediately think they'll think I'm some sort of boy racing Chav.
Have though about saying I drive a Skoda to save embarrassment

As for image, I get lots of appreciation from true 'petrolheads' who know what my car is and how rare they are.
And if I had Ģ100k to spend I wouldn't buy a bloody porsche anyway!

Getting back to the original questions - although someone mentioned bhp/tonne is key, I would argue Whp / tonne is better for a closer comparison and in a straight line I guess drag co efficiency is worth a mention. With the gearing on the spec C I would think to 100-120 it would be similar but 110/120-200 will be a bit different . Would have given the guy a shock though!

The 911 turbo which we are discussing is 4WD. The 911 Turbo certainly is an Autobhan animal, but not so good on track as it weighs too much, there are far better 911s for track work.
Turbo 911s do not sound as good as NA ones.....so I agree!

Would prefer an understated tuned scoob most of the time - but thats personal preferance. No head testing required. Although re-reading the inacurate drivel I have posted futher up this thread ....i am begining to wonder

I'm with you on this. Somebody *actually* compare these
2 back to back (both with similar power and brakes) on
different roads, I'm sure there will be roads/conditions where
each shine brighter than the other- Porsche class/build or not. JL
