Be Careful mate, I've ridden bikes for 20 years and have had 3 accidents (all caused by others) and spent a lot of time in hospital/wheelchairs because of this. I would be very cautious of riding on the road now-a-days, as there is too much traffic with not enough people who have road sense/discipline.

Good luck with your venture Mark but never EVER get complacent.
I rode bikes, on & off road, from the late 60's through to the 80's. I took my test on a friend's Royal Enfield 250cc GT Continental 5 Speed. The good old days. I never bothered with my car test till I moved to Essex.
Prior to that I had a BSA 650cc A10 which cost me all of £25 British pounds & came with a little sidecar (I was still on L's) It leaked oil out of the rocker cover which collected in the recessed spark plug hole & smoked like a goodun at traffic lights.
Tiger Cub T20S which needless to say lost it's plain big end bearing after not many miles.
Norton Dominator 88 500cc which I later converted to a Triton with the addition of a Triumph TT100 500cc motor.
Triumph TR6R Trophy 650cc which vibrated so much the indicator lens used to swivel round on the stalk.
Norton Commando MkIIA 850cc Interstate which was bought in 1973 & is still "mothballed" in my garage.
Friends I knocked about with in Ipswich in the early 70's had a good mix of bikes :- AJS, Matchless, Aerial Square 4, Enfield, Norton & Triumph. There was a single cylinder Panther that had a split exhaust port that fed into a twin exhaust. It seemed to fire once every telegraph pole. You could hear it coming miles away.
For off road green laning I had a Yamaha DT175 & then raced a Yamaha IT175 Enduro at clubman level. Plenty of knocks & scrapes but always bounced back.
Wouldn't catch me on one now though, too many loonies on the road.

Must be around the same age mate had a BSA bantam(late 60's)followed by triumph 500 (early 70's). (my farther was a serious biker Manks Norton was his pride and joy and a founder member of the West Ealing Bike club back in the 50's) but after I had bad accident in OZ on a off roader honda 400 not been on one since and would not want too with the Kn*b heads driving on the roads these days not only cars but some of the bikers are brain less going under taking etc.
Good luck mate with the test and hope you enjoy the experiance
