Gas for #1

I use my gas bbq about 3-4 times a week during the summer and cooking up chargrilled fillets and chicken ***** whilst all you charcoal die hards are eating fish fingers from your electric grills

tonight I had chicken ***** marinated in chilli flakes, soy sauce and lemon YUM YUM

Not a piece of crappy charcoal in sight but I still had nice blackened, chargrilled chicken

how do you like them apples

Ah it must be the season to turn perfectly good cuts of meat into inedible charcoal. (or maybe that is just me)

As mentioned before Weber BBQ's are the bee's knee's super hardy maybe a little pricey to justify at first, but they last ages.

Thanks for the comments.

I've been led to believe that the typical flame grilled/bbqed or in my case tikkaed taste has nothing to do with the charcoal and is all about the fat spilling on to the fire etc

So gas gives the best of both worlds?

Tis correct Deep, the Beefeater range (Aussie Built) has 'Atomisers' that stop the flame up caused by dripping fat (and thus the blackening) but allow the flavour to be put back into the food being barbecued.

Its worth getting a decent one

Gas isnt quite the same but I really cant be arsed with waiting for charcoal, I have a Fiesta one and its been pretty good, this year it has a full size caravan style gas bottle on it, plus when I bought said gas bottle an old chap in the garden centre siad he had a spare I could have at home so I went and picked it up and put his new windscreen wipers on his car in return.

So plenty of barbecues this year !

It is nothing like the house grill, it gets a lot hotter and the fat makes it flame nicely so its nearly the same as charcoal

Forget British Gas! Get one of these :

Garden XL Ltd Brinkmann Smoke'n Pit Deluxe

I also soak wood chips in water for an hour to sprinkle on the coals. It is a true manly art to cook a sausage for over an hour and then reap the respect as people say its the best bbq ever

Gordon Ramsay has a gas one - saw it on his prog - earth shattering news and totally despicable. Good ammo if you wimp out though - all that horrible, messy, nail chipping charcoal

Gas for me I think. I'll end up using it more as it'll involve less man hours. I'll go on the hunt tommorrow. Gas fired with atomisers and no lava/briquettes.

btw is it alright to leave these things in the garden under a cover? Or will they rust?

Many thanks

OK. Take a subscription out to 'Jackie' and take your mild steel Posa-Cue indoors at the slightest sight of rain

My Cast Iron FSH '****-Hammer' Brinkmann lives outdoors all year round, gets a coat of Hammerite every 6000 chops and scares the female rats away

1) gas is fine and so much easier for the quick meal.

2) get one with a lid that comes down

3) for regular stuff like sausages cook with lid down on high level grill away from flames and rock or whatever and nice and hot. This will cook them through and I use a meat thermometer to check that they are done (70 inside). Then you can open lid and get them as brown as you want on main barbie grill knowing that they are cooked. I keep them warm on heavy cast iron frying pan which also drains excess fat away.

4) Standard b-b-q covers seem to last about 2 years. In winter I cover the whole thing with a bit of pond liner. Keeps it dry and the spiders nice and cosy.

have fun. dl

yep another vote for a beefeater grill
the most popular in australia and i dare say they do a fair bit of cooking burgers etc
i have the 4 burner one and used it twice today
lovely!

oh and another thing the best way of doing sausages is to cook them by in direct heat
ie light the burner on the left or right and then put them on the opposite side
they dont flame and cook more slowly
end result awesome food
asda have a 3 packs of gormet sausages for 5 quid
they were a great meal!!

I've seen one a B and Q I'm thinking about getting. I've read about these atomisers that stop flame ups. The one at B and Q says it has vaporiser bars, I presume they are the same thing?

Sound like it does the same thing

B&Q aren't bad, but they tend to be wibbley-wobbley as they're put together by neds

Nope, if you want flavour, charcoal all the way, better yet if you put hickory, cherry or other wood chips on it.
