Tell me about it. I recently finished an eight year spell of doing exactly that with a worldwide customer base. I don't know the actual figures involved as they were kept confidential with each client, but it was a sh*t load more than I was earning that's for sure.

What people don't realise is that with many of these jobs it's not quite the same as being a mechanic working on a £30,000 car or a builder working on a £300,000 house.
Most enterprise level projects are worth at least millions of pounds and can affect hundreds of thousands of people.
If you are putting in £6 million pounds worth of EMC equipment for a project it is nothing to pay a storage expert from them to configure it in 30 mandays for £75,000, or even pay an internal contractor £150K a year to design and manage it.
And that's not to mention if it goes down when in production and you are facing liquidated damages of £1 million a day.

(he got over it -On my advice he transfered his knowledge to SANS. I did a mortgage for him last year - he now 'consults' for £350.00 an hour. Tends to stop around lunchtime most days
