No problem, apparently the lake was frozen when they belly landed it, the heat from the engines, which were on fire, caused the ice to melt and sink the plane The crew got out safely though

The Canadians also have a Halifax that was found in Norwegian waters, they restored theirs
Thanks for putting me right on that one CPD, my memory can't be what it used to be

Thanks for your very impressive post Flat Eric, I really enjoyed that one.

It is very true about the restricted amount of room on the Lancaster fuselage. I went inside one as lad once and even at my small size in those days I found it very difficult to move around, especially with the main spar in the way. I could not bring myself to get into the rear gunner's turret because of the size of it even as a young lad.

I think the rear gunners were among the bravest men to be found ever!

I was at the Waddington airshow last year for the farewell to the Canberra occasion. Don't know whether I can make it this year though. Never ever heard anything as noisy as that Eurofighter during its take-off!

DCI, maybe we should all have a meet at the Blue Bell some time.

Les

Actually that sounds like a really great idea... then a good old drive around Lincolnshire, perhaps visiting various sites of interest!?

I'm there with son number 1. Number 2 is stopping at home with mum as I don't think he'll take too kindly to the noise. Not just yet anyway.
I've given up on seeing the Vulcan, and I'm a bit pi55ed that the chance to see a Jaguar fly for the last time by the RAF has been taken away by some penny pinching tossers at the MoD/Treasury.

I just wish the BBMF was the RAFMF and then we would see lots of really good stuff flying - but no chance of that in this day and age.

I hear that "558" is proceeding at Bruntingthorpe and even if it is not ready in time for the Falklands memorial flight along the Mall, it is being lined up for air displays before too long. So you may get a chance to see the Vulcan before too long.

Thorpe Camp is worth a visit - they have a 'mock-up' of a Lancaster fuselage next to a sad looking Lightning (Xm192). Website here
