Before I test them

Audi's move away from being understated combined with their aggressive marketing means the "BMW t0$$er" driver is a dying breed and has been replaced by the "Audi to$$er" - i.e. a proportion of buyers who feel the badge gives them a superior place above other drivers (although they are driving a base model). Audis have that cut-and-thrusting executive image tied up nicely at the moment.

Matt, I dont have personal experience of the BMW 1 series but I did see an episode of Top Gear tonight on cable and Clarkson was slating the 130i against the new Golf R32. From what he said it seems the 1 series isn't very good if you require a car with more than 2 seats and a reasonable boot. I don't know if he's gotta a point or not but it did put me off the 1 series a bit Made me think well I'd better consider the 3 series then instead.....
Classic Clarkson. He stated that the 130i M sport was brilliant to drive, and probably the most fun he'd had since driving Chevette HS and Lotus Sunbeams.
Then gave the "win" to the R32 because it had more rear seat space
What a "decider" for two high performance hatches.
He also failed to mention that the 4wd R32's boot space is practically the same (may even be less) than the 1 series, quoting standard golf boot volume during the test.
Clarkson's views should always be taken with the proverbial pinch of salt....
