Nice bike SiPie
What I also meant to add is that it's a seriously fast bike....

The frame feels utterly alive, admittedly seriously twitchy (but thats the trade off) and I'm so glad I waited till they put the M4 frame on the Rockhopper Pro ... delighted

However, can't believe I waited so long to get rid of that Cannondale F600. The Headshox must have been the most costly and unreliable piece of stupid fork I have ever owned during my 18 years of mountain biking

I've only really got back into biking in the last few years (along with the running) It really is amazing how far the technology has come. My current bike: 2006 Trek 8000ZR is pretty nippy and whilst it's still only a hard tail, I'm still able to keep up with ChrisB on some of these more mental runs.
The real test will be in June when we have an adventure race in the Brecon Beacons. I've seen how tightly packed the contours are!

having read the replies, seen the pics, and spent 3 days walking the Lakes, wishing I had my bike, I pulled the auction for my 07 FSR stumpy. It's just too nice to go! An hour's blast round Dalby on Sunday made my mind up.
There's nothing quite like doing 35+ with no engine, and hearing your expensive shocks doing there thing.
Doing SiTS solo in August too for the 3rd time
, to raise some pennies for the DSA (a charity, not the test people!)
I'll just have to stop eating for a year to pay for it...
P.S. good luck to everyone with new bikes - as they say, get out there and ride!

1. Try before you buy. Frame feel and geometry is so subjective. I'm a big Specialized fan but they're not everyone's cup of tea.
2. Don't buy new. People spend loads of money thinking they're going to love biking and realise it's not for them. Also, a lot of people buy frames which are way too big for them. There's loads of nearly brand new bikes out there gathering dust waiting for a new owner. As long as you can establish it's not been nicked by seeing the receipt and owner's manual, you're onto a winner. Get MBUK and MBR and trawl the forum classifieds - tons of choice.
3. Good code from Kiwi GT. This year's model will soon be out of date so find a dealer with stock from last year and push hard for a bargain. Again, buy MBUK and MBR and get on the phone. The bigger concerns will ship UK wide.
4. Buy a Turner 5 Spot - just awesome. It's a little more than £500 but well worth it.
Cheers

Let me guess..... Edinburgh Bike Co-op Mad May sale with 10% of their bikes ???
Just bought my latest trusty steed last week
Specialized Rockhopper Pro Disc '07 (£949.95)
.........always loved my very old Rockhopper, in the days before my much hated Cannondale... so really delighted to be back in a Rockhopper (especially now they have the M4 Stumpjumper frame)![Thumb](images/smilies/thumb.gif)
Fork technology is simply amazing on a sub £1000 bike too![Thumb](images/smilies/thumb.gif)

I did have a 2004 Rockhopper but I've just stripped it and put most of the bits onto a Pipedream Sirius frame.

I ordered this yesterday.
Evans Cycles: Product: Ridgeback Genesis Core 1.0 2007 Mountain Bike
I was going to go for the Specialized Sport Disc but for better or worse I chose the above. I was also looking at more expensive bikes but with buying the extras it mounted up plus as mentioned I didn't want to spend lots of cash (even if it is cyclescheme) and use it once!
Looking forward to it arriving
