Another big motorway smash...HGV's to blame again..

At the risk of getting this thread back on track...
Everyone here, Scooby driver or not, will pass hundreds of HGVs on many journeys. The fact that people here have had bad experiences with HGVs does not mean that all HGV drivers are ar5eholes. With any group in society, you will get bad apples. People are too quick to condemn all HGV drivers because of a few incidents. How many times have you been in a dodgy situation caused by a car driver? Many more than with HGVs I would venture, but an close call with an HGV is understandably more memorable than any incident with another car.
As an HGV 1 (C+E) licence holder, I reported an HGV driver who almost killed me on the A404(M). He was a total tosser and I hope he got disciplined severely. That does not mean all HGVs are driven by tossers for crying out loud.

Please tell me this is a wind up If the lorry driver wasn't tailgating and bullying the car in front (and I don't mean all drivers) they'd have the time to react. I've seen far too many Lorry drivers bullying car drivers by tailgating them and intimidating them. I know not all lorry drivers are like that but the few that do give you all a bad name
i seen a car driver today on his mobile phone (no hands free) does this mean
all car drivers are tossers i don't think so.

mm plenty of opinions in this thread not much fact.
Department for Transport - Road Safety Good Practice Guide about half way down the page are the figures that show the majority of KSI are down to cars with even the nice pedestrian friendly bus being considerably worse than LGV stats.
sort of makes the insult hurling and stereotyping a bit pointless really.
From a personal standpoint driving cars bikes and trucks i'd say that car drivers show much poorer driving skills and awareness than any other group.
Incidentally cars are also the easiest to get a licence for-perhaps some kind of coincidence?
Also i do not condone tailgating but when youve left a safe gap between you and the next vehicle its pretty much guaranteed that at least one or two cars will try to fill this gap because it seems to mean to them that my lane must be moving faster, the problem with this is they pass me at about 70, then tuck in and stand on the brakes to bring their speed down. They drop down to about 45-50ish then wonder where the 44 ton in the mirror came from as i'm standing on the brakes trying to keep me and them safe. Frequently this will be followed by a large dose of 'break testing' by the car in front to get me to fall back as they suddenly feel they want a larger gap than they pulled into in the first place.
Another best loved car activity is the inability to follow a curve around a roundabout or leaving one at an exit when i'd say about a dozen times a day a car will nearly swipe my front corner because they wont follow the actual line of the lane they are in.

Lorries overtaking lorries: MUPPETS, slow, pointless as far as most people can see, takes half a day on average, causes everyone and their uncle to slow down while the muppet manouvre is completed. You choose to drive something that is limited to 56mph, deal with it. They SHOULD be banned from lanes 2,3,4 etc at all times of the day (except for when they get stuck behind some mad old fool in a honda that should have been banned 20 years ago doing 40 on the motorway in the slow lane, nobody should have to be put through that ordeal! ).
You have no right to dictate what speeds the unrestricted vehicles should be going at when you are stuck well below the legal speed limit. We get enough traffic without tools slowing us down on what few decent bits of traffic free roads we get nowadays. HILLS, lol my favourite for watching the overtaking antics........................
Just my opinion, I have lots of them
Cheers,
Nick.

I hate mobile phones and my blood boils when I still see people on them every single day. Being the size that I am I do my very best to make them aware of how stupid they are being. If the police swapped their tactics and went out hunting for more muppets on phones than speeders life would be great .

God bless the HGV drivers of this country...........
I was travelling a 2 lane section of the A1 yesterday and approached a roundabout. The was a well spread out number of cars travelling in the outside lane overtaking a slowing HGV on the inside lane.
The HGV was NOT indicating or they were not working ........ as I went round the roundabout in the right hand lane and went straight on the HGV whom I had just got in front of TURNED RIGHT behind me and continued around the roundabout in the left hand lane ......... net result ........ carnage ........ no doubt HGV drivers will attribute this as being the cars fault!! I really could not belive my eyes or understand the mentality of the HGV driver for pulling such a stunt.
In the interest of balance though ..... on Thursday I was approaching another roundabout on a dual carriageway to be confronted with a lady driver exiting from the roundabout straight towards me and the oncoming traffic!!! She looked a bit confused as she overtook me but didn't stop until she was quite a way down the dual carriageway.
Standards of driving in this country as a whole is appaling, but HGV's have far more potential to create horrific incidents.

remember when I worked at the investments bank?
I gave some "help" to some members on here, I had an investigation at work, so I asked the webmaster to change my username to give me some anonymity from the Bankers.
had it changed to shaggy1973, I just re-registered with this username so as not to lose it.

However the average impreza driver owner is an excellent driver. obviously just my own opinion.

I stopped at a roadside cafe a while back, and two lorry drivers turned up, and they both openly admitted that they would have no problem slamming cars off the road, pushing them into central reservations, solid concrete bollards etc if anyone even dared contemplating overtaking them when a dual carriageway goes down to one lane, they laughed about who would be worse off
What really hacks me off about this, is when you are entering roadworks or similar where a lane reduction scheme is in place, that wagons will pull out with no indication and no warning to essentially 'block' anyone getting past them, see it happen far too often
There are a few 'decent' wagon drivers, but there are a hell of a lot who aren't
and for what its worth, I have in the past driven 40 tonners, so know their limitations etc

I've never driven anything bigger than PLG, but I appreciate there is skill to proper HGV driving. I mean, keeping awake in lane 1 at 56mph after 14 rashers of bacon, 7 eggs, and half a loaf of fried bread, all washed down with 2 mugs of caffiene weak pi55sy tea brewed from an 18" square teabag in a pot that could encompass a lazy turn in of the QEII, must take some doing.

lol.
Id have to say whilst i dont drive motorways everyday ive very rarely been cut-up/ had anything bad thrown my way by hgvs more than any other road user, prolly just me
All i do know as comparison at sea is that whilst a smaller possibly sail-powered 'vehicle' might have right of way you just dont take chances with something feckin 50/100O times your size with restricted manoeverablity

Wrong Chip Hectic
I just heard about that crash on the radio, they said they are questioning the lorry driver
Not saying he is guilty as the story hasn't unfolded yet, but no doubt he is being questioned as he was unhurt and probably going to be the only survivor

OK...just to clear the air.
I didn't intend to insult anybody directly, in fact, before I even posted it crossed my mind who, if anyone, I had had dealings with before that may be a HGV driver, and could possibly insult. The only person that came to mind was shaggy, but then the thought was chucked out of the nearside window @ 56 for being nonsensical. This is assuming of course that james unloaded a clip from his infractocannon into my ***, which to be honest, I don't know or care if he did. I have no beef with him at all, always been ok with me.
Anyway.....anyone offended by comments I made, then I genuinely apologise, but, please understand I only really have one way of posting. Tongue in cheek 'insults' ; purely meant for a laugh, and hopefully, so blatantly fcukin obviously TIC, that they will either be laughed at, or will fly straight past, over the head, in a Top Gun style flyby.
So perhaps this wasn't the topic for generalisations...no problem, my mistake.
If you still feel the need to infractoban, be my guest, but I have said my bit, and apologised for gobbing off.
