ECUtek vs Opensource Remapping

I know that we don't buy these cars for their mpg figures but if I go for a dual map with a low-boost map for "daily commuting" use, any idea what mpg I might get? (JDM 05 STi, already EcuTek mapped, averaging 21mpg, and about to be remapped to around 350bhp after various simple mods are completed).
This might be a convincing argument for spending the money for the extra mapping time

I've got a duelmap on my MY01 (partial decat). I get around 28mpg on 'economy' and 26mpg when not on it (I do mostly motorway miles).
I actually use the economy/low boost map around 80% of the time - which means that when I use the full boost I really feel the difference. I always find that you get used to whatever power gains you get but this way I always get a buzz when upping the boost.

Excellent input here guys... and thanks.. really is helping sort my confusion.
Extra thanks for JGM, Andy.F and MoCom for the ECUtek vs. Opensource first hand input.
Can Opensource be mapped for a 'Dual Map' setup or similar? I like the sound of being able to have an Economy map because 80% of the time im more likely to use that too... no need for full boost on a journey to work / around town.

when i had my old classic remapped it gave a constant 2mpg better returns on my short runs to work (5 miles each way) i put this down to being able to get into a higher gear quicker and just using the torque to make progress
do like the idea of a slow map for when it's being serviced though!

As to resale on a mapped or not mapped car..
If you mod the car and sell it modded, as a buyer, one would hope it has been mapped for the mods.. or the other route is the return the car to standard and sell the mods.. one thing to return to standard would be the map.

Most tuners will reinstall your original map free if you so desire when you come to sell it so thats not an issue.
Most Imprezas get driven hard from time to time, at least with a custom remap it has been set up properly for this type of use.
By the way did you know that your car has a remapped ECU in it as part of the PPP kit !
Prodrive use Ecutek.

I know my car has a remap. My point was from a buyers point of view, PPP is a warantied upgrade, so this itself brings piece of mind.
As most people (not on here) if they would buy a modified car, and most would say no. Ask if they would buy a car with a dealer modification with full waranty, and a lot more would answer yes.
It has been on my mind to get mine remapped. If I decide to keep the car for a few more years yet, I might just do it.
However I am thinking of an Audi S3. Might just get it MTM'd

Not all subaru models can have map switching though.
Opensource or Ecutek - it really doesnt matter - they are both tools to do a job.
The real thing you need to decide is WHO is going to map it?
From there - trust them in doing what they do best. i.e. make the car produce more power, run more effiicently and safer and be more fun to drive.
Personally I chose Zak at Mocom and am delighted with what he has done, but there are many great mappers within the Subaru Community:
- Andy F
- Simon (JGM)
- Bob Rawle
- Pavlo
Chose one that you can get on well with - it should be a long term relationship ideally so that you can ask them for advice and for them to give it to you straight and if applicable you act on it. This benefits you because they learn what you want from the car and will help you get there and it helps them by gaining a long term customer.
As to value of the car - they all depreciate - dont kid yourselves that our subaru's are anymore than a cheap option and any messing will reduce the value. Why do we modify them then? - because like most turbo cars, they are easy to modify to make small gains very quickly. Then it gets addictive
