You might be fortunate depending on how you dealt with the officer.

A friend of mine got caught doing a similar naughty speed and from what I can tell, mainly because of how he acted with the police officer involved, when he went to caught he was acutally faced with 96mph - which resulted in 6 points and a fine.

Yes its silly, yes its irresponsible, but I won't believe that anyone here is whiter than white.

I'm not going to jump on the "serves you right bandwagon", but I'm afraid that the above posters are correct in terms of the probability you will be banned. If you'd have done it on a motorway and turned up for court suited and booted and thrown yourself at their mercy claiming that you needed to drive for your job, then you might -and I do mean might- have got away with 9 points and big fine. I know of one Kent Scooby member who got caught on the M25 doing well over 100 who got off with the above.

But on a dual carriageway -and I hope it was rated at NSL and your trangression occurred late at night- they're going to ban you. If you genuinely need to drive for your job, I'd be looking around for alternative employmnent now I'm afraid.

If you had::

drugs, punishment, Counselling, courses, Fine value £0.

Burglary, punishment, probation, fine value £0.

Selected Choirboy Fiddling, punishment, counselling, probation, fine value £ ??

Illegal Asylum Seeker, Punishment, House, Furniture, Income, Fine £0.

Not registered your car, speeding, no Insurance, MOT, Traceable?? No, Punishment Nil, Fine Value £0.

BOther to registar your Car, Insure it, Tax it, MOT It, Traceable, Punishment, Fine value???

High performance vehicle registered after April this year Fine value £300, this year, £400 next year.

This poor sod is going to have the book thrown at him.

You can all be holier than thou, 125mph outrageous, HOWEVER, look at the above list, you can try to justify it, deny it ignore it perhaps, the reality is>>>

we like Scoobs, (they can go quicker than 70 mph, the limit set over half a century ago) that's why we post on here.

Just think for a minute<<<<<<<< how can breaking the speed limit ( I know it's against the law, so are the other things listed above) justify such a harsh tresponse in contrast to, the bove crimes & their punisments???

What is your job, what is your age? what where the weather conditions? what time of day/night was it

Do other people depend on you driving (I dont mean your employer) people like disabled relatives that soley rely on you for transport etc?

Get a damn good solicitor, pay for the best you can afford, one that specialises in traffic law and knows the magistrates you will be attending (usually the local area one)

And now spend upto the next 6 months having sleepless nights waiting for the summons to arrive, start looking for jobs that dont require driving, and try and learn by your mistakes

Not much sympathy for you at those speeds espcially on a dual carriageway, unless it was an extreme emergency

Alan,

Agree with the "holier than thou" sentiments. I very much doubt there are many on here who haven't -late one night- let the car off the leash a bit on a motorway. IMHO speed always has to be looked at in relation to the road/traffic conditions. Lets face it, most reasonable people would say that someone doing a tonne in a performance car designed for high speeds, late at night on a deserted motorway isn't anything to get in a state about! Certainly not worthy of a ban!

However, I don't think it's appropriate to use ridiculously soft sentencing for other more serious crimes to highlight grievances with speeding penalties; just because Johnny burgular is getting away scot free doesn't mean that the speeding penalities are too harsh - it simply means that the penalties for burgulary are too soft.

I didn't ask about the colour. I thought it was amusing that he/she felt it neccessary to add that detail...like it makes a difference

That be me then got caught doing 120mph on the M25 and got 6 points & a £250 fine, yes i was very lucky and it was only because i've had a clean licence since i passed my test (23 years) that i didn't get a ban, think it's gonna be a ban unfortunately especially since it was on a A road but you may be lucky.

Hello New Scooby,

the point that I tried to get accoss was, I fully accept it's wrong, however, having said that, don't you think that the small list I've mentioned is not, "joined up writing" in that, I think the list pretty serious?

The punishment, to me, doesn't fit the crime.

The balance is totally unfair and, if we look at motoring, those who bother to become tracecable, get a "banjo ing".

Those who don't give a toss, be that they are Brits or Illegals, and are not traceable, can speed, drive irresponsibly, or even worse, kill someone, are invisible.

You are correct in that the punishment is too soft, don't you feel it's about time punishments were more balanced and fai?

Regards

Im betting that a percentage close to 100 of people on this thread have driven at 100mph+ at one time in their Scoobs, it is really easy in a car designed for such speeds.
