125mph will nearly always equal a ban unless you are a cop 'testing' your car

Ignore the do-gooders. The probably broke the speed limit by miles themselves today but forget that when they get on their soap box. I crack 100mph most days and I usually drive a 1.something fiesta Today I had the scooby so I had to brake from 130 to merge with traffic that was going slower on the motorway than my sliproad speed

Agree completely that: Policy on speeding has become more about revenue than safety and that -subject to circumstances- even over a tonne can be nothing worth of the courts time, quite frankly; also that the punishments for the crimes you outline can be woefully inadequate.

My point is you shouldn't use one flawed system to highlight the inadequacies of another. i.e. you don't need to see the stiff penalties for speeding to know that, for example, non-custodial sentences for buglary are wrong. The offence is inherently worthy of custodial punishment, irrespective of what's happening in sentencing policy for other crimes.

Essentially, I'm suggesting that the seriousness of the crime and, consequently, the severity of the punishment needs to be defined by the context of the offence itself, not defined in relation to other offences.

Feel for you mate, honest.

You need to get yourslef a burberry cap, give up your job and say your depressed, get signed-off on the sick and get a free house, probably get free legal representation. Then jump back in the scoob and drive it anyway, dont pay for insurance or tax.
And when you get caught next time just act like you dont care, and you'll get a £60 fine and slapped wrists.

unlucky dude, did you actually get pulled over by a copper or flashed by a camera? If it was a camera maybe you will be lucky enough for it to have had no film. If it was a copper, was there one or two (they can't do anything if there was only 1)

125 isn't that bad, people do it all the time on the motorway, unlucky to be caught!

Of course they can do you if they are on their own, as long as they have a piece of measuring equipment, like on board camera, callibrated speedometer (I dont mean the in dash one, usually a seperate one) radar, laser etc etc

Hate to say it, but 125 is a bit fast mate.. Anything over 100 is just silly on busy roads as a ban almost always follows.

That said, a friend at work got caught doing 115 in his scoob AND he was over the limit (drunk) and somehow escaped with a 500 quid fine and 6 points... So it's possible you might not be banned, although unlikely....

Just tell the court that the cars speedo was originally in kmh and you have just had in converted to mph and you honestly forgot your honour

I suppose they can as they have proof then, not sure how many of the cars have that gear on board though? Maybe technology has stuffed that blag up now then.

There was an incident recently in Dorset, where a guy got stopped for doing extreme excessive speed, (135ish...)
He already has 13 points,
When stopped, the car was not taxed, mot'd, or as far as the copper could tell insured( traders ins) the copper did not get a fix on his speed, but knew he was going very quick, cos the copper had to do 135 in order to catch him, he got a talking to, and a 7 day wonder, he then proceeded to get the car mot'd and taxed, and that was that, no fine, no more points.....

He was i think you'll agree the jammiest sod on the planet!!!

This in not made up, is totally true, and if anyone doubts it i can point them to the username of the offender.... ie, not me!!

get a good solicitor mate, i got one , and he nearly got me off a 105mph ticket, the final say from me put the downer on it, still only 3points and £100 fine

It really depends on how lenient or not your bench at court might be. Unfortunately for you, 125mph is a book throwing offence, esp on a DC

Put it this way, I got a 2week ban n £300 fine for 66 on a 40 DC. And that was a lenient decision, as I had more than a few points already.

Right, i dont condone what you have done in any way shape or form but everyone in this country has a right to a defense.

I love all you clowns that get on the wagon and of course, you have never ever crept over the speed limit have you. On the flip side to that, if you have been clocked at 125mph, i take it you dont know the road very well. 2 Reasons

1, your speedo will have been reading inexcess of 140mph to get an actual reading of 125mph by means of a laser, not very many stretches on that road to be doing that.

2, ties in with the top, if you knew the 69 at all, you would know that its always crawling with un marked and marked cars for that matter. The amount of hidden dips, bends and drunks that use that road late night, it really is very silly to be hitting those speeds.

get a top solicitor best you can afford someone whos well know for this type of work.

i got done for 70mph in a 30mph zone . 6 month ban extended rested + 200 fime.

that was 5 years ago. and my 2nd ban .

your prob looking at a ban plus fine or 6-9 points + a large fine.

As what EVOLUTION says get a bloody good solicitor, all you do gooders saying he deserves it should be fecking ashamed of yourselves, ok yes he was in the wrong but dont fecking hang him for it.

who here does not go above the speed limit? no one and if you dont then sell your car and get a bloody 2CV.

125mph is not that outrageous, ok its a bit silly given the circumstances but he has come on here cap in hand asking for advice.

he could lose his job, his home and maybe his wife (if he's married)

its easy to say 'well he should not have done it' true but there are a lot of things we shouldn't do but do.

125mph - OMG that's worse than murder isn't it?

I had a friend who was 'done' for an average speed of 134mph over a 1/3 mile (he saw the coppers and was braking ), they estimated he was doing 170+ but couldn't prove it. Anyway 18 month ban and big fine.

Get a good lawyer, and cross your fingers. Hope it goes well for you.

P.S. Ignore the critisism on here - they may be in your shoes next week.

Like everyone has said it is a ban..period

as to the points and fine, well that all depends on your circumstances.

Case in point:
Got caught doing 104 on a motorway in my golf gti years ago.
They tried to give me a month ban, 6 points and £400 fine, first offence as well

pleaded my case (no lawyer)

ended up with 2 week ban, 6 points and £250 fine. So for your speed on a dual carriageway, expect far far far worse.
