You will still be able to attend Scooby Shootout, as it is incredibly unlikely you will recieve a summons for before that date, they do take a while to process

I do think one of your only chances (as I said earlier) of getting off without a ban, is that if someone else relies on you having transport, ie a disabled relative

Just needing your car for you job usually isnt enough

I got caught a few years ago in North Wales, unmarked car I was doing 92 as I entered a 50 mph dual carriageway, I crossed the 50 sign, and the blues came on instantly, he had followed me for 3 miles in NSL but waited for me to get into the 50 zone

I got a damn good solicitor, local one, who had intimate knowleadge of the area, and the local courts, and he pleaded my case

I had a few letters with me, one from my MD, and one from Social Services saying how the children relied on me, coming to collect them etc (60 miles away from my house), and that me being in their life had a significant impact on them that was beneficial to them, and would have severe detrimental effects on them, should I no longer be around

I got 6 points and 400 quid fine, plus costs, plus 180 quid for the solicitor, instead of upto 6 months ban

In an ideal world you could offer the magistrate a ride in your car to show him what it can really do. Telling him that 125 is sunday driving and that 150 is your normal speed.

Alas its not an ideal world.

Why do people buy fast cars if they don't drive them fast?

If the speed limit in this country had risen in accordance with the increased performance of cars 125MPH wouldn't seem that fast.

But then again they seem to hand out licences to anyone these days so maybe we can't be trusted with higher speeds limits.

in 1990 i got done at 108 following a xr3i

went to hexham magistrates and they were dealing with 14 cases that day a few had solicitors who pleaded and smallish fines the bloke in the xr3i shrugged his shoulders was dressed jeans t shirt and didnt say anything to the magistrates who are typical country landlords /men of buisness standing in the community ,I could tell they werent impressed by him went away for 2 minutes came back £700 fine and 3 month ban

Up goes lordy next no solicitor ,best buisness suit and tie pleads with the bench produced a letter from my employee whosid i needa licence ,said i respected the countryside and thanked the policeman for giving me good sensible road safety advice and promised NEVER to do it again

Away they went for a couple of minutes came back

We cant have people driving that sort of speeds in OUR county

fined £200 and 2weeks ban so not toaffect my job as i could take it as a 2 week holiday and told me never to re apear at the bench again

I thanked them and paid by chq there and then and surrended my licence to them


-----for you its not good to be honest as your speedo would probably show 140 ish and at 8pm is against you instead of 11-12 pm which makes the roads very quite ,but on a positive note the prisons are full so i would think 6 months and 500 fine aprox

As others have said - you are not guaranteed a ban for that speed.

From experience 103mph on the M40 on a bank holiday lunchtime cost 6 points and £800 fine (had a solicitor and managers letter pleading I needed car for work) - this was in an Astra not a Scoob before anyone judges. They asked if I had any holiday to take (so I could use that as the ban period) but I said I had none left. Do what you can to avoid a ban as insurance companies will ask if you have been banned for the next 10yrs!

Solicitor from the local area to the magistrates is a good idea as it'll take a little stress from your day in court but they are not cheap. A letter from your boss or them attending would be a great help. Make sure you go in a suit and tie and speak humbly (no cockiness). Fines are means based so the amount will depend on your income - higher fine too if you get away without a ban.

Some youth in before me was up for no tax, MOT and insurance - got a £150 fine payable at a couple of quid a week cos he was on the dole. Where's the justice eh?!

No point in worrying now, you should've thought of it before you done what is nothing but a ridiculous speed. As for what you well get- probably a 12 mth ban, £1000 fine and maybe even the possibility of having your car confiscated . You might want to try and convince the judge that you realise how stupid you were, and that you have decided to part company with the car as a result, then transfer the ownership to one of your mates for the duration of your ban. As for the prison side of it there's no chance of that happening.

And before anyone on here slates me for my first sentence, I am currently banned for doing 107mph. I was lucky and managed to keep my job, but had i not then i only had myself to blame.

THe problem with fighting it, getting a solicitor and looking for holes in the evidence is that you lose all your "discount" for pleading guilty at the earliest opportunity

you have been given a NIP which is not for a fixed penalty offence. This WILL be heard in front of a magistratie like it or not. What will happen is that you will be sent out a summons in due corse and you will have 3 decisions.

1, ignor it altogether (not advisable)

2, Plead guilty

3, plead not guilty

its not often done but i would strongly suggest that if you take options 2 or 3, you seek legal help regardless. ive used a solicitor when pleading guilty to an offence and it ended with a warning, no points and no fine other than costs of £60 i believe. So useing a solicitor does not mean you will be shafted in anyway shape or form, just because its not the normal done thing, doesnt mean to say it shouldnt be done.

your 1st hearing if you plead not guilty will be over in minutes, problem is, if you asked on a morning, you could be there waiting for you 2 min slot all day, something your just going to have to suffer im affraid.

What then will happen is that you will then be schedualed (sp) for a PTR, (pre trial review). In this time you then seek all the evidence the prosecution has against you and you then make your case, even up to this point, you can still change your plea, all you do is simply say you were seeking legal advice, any sensible person would do so when you consider that this may change your lifestyle.

You may also want to consider the option of legal aid, you may well find your circumstances allow this, im certain some on here will say no chance, but go ask someone who knows, you cant get what you dont ask for.



right, av pretty much told you everything that anyone that isnt in a position to legally defend you, if you need more info and guidence, i strongly suggest finding a solicitor of your own, preferably that specializes in the RTA or get in touch and as i said before, i will pass on details to you of a decent guy

mate of mine got done at 142mph in his astra turbo. pleaded with the court coz he works as mechanic and needs his license so he got 1 month ban and hefty £400 fine. strange thing is when he gets license back it will be clean with no points! lucky git. yeah he got 12 points too.

Very unlikely that you will get legal aid for a road traffic offence, when you're employed but ask anyway nowt to lose.

People are talking about getting an instant ban over 100mph but that's just rubbish....sure you might get banned but it's not an unwritten rule.

I got caught doing just under 110 mph on the M1 on a sunday morning. I got pulled over and got 3 points and a £60 fine! I have to say the copper was perfectly fine and seemed slightly annoyed that he was having to pull me over at all. He also told me that as a rule they never pull anyone over und 85 mph.

Anyway, since then I knew I got off lucky so I've not pushed my luck and kept the speed down.....especially when a colleague of my missus got pulled and subsequently banned for going 95 mph on a motorway...

Er no it's not:

Plead guilty from the start, the magistrates have the discretion to hand out a lower penalty.

Plead not guilty, and subsequently get found guilty, discretion gone.

You can only get legal aid for offences where imprisonment is a potential punishment, so in the case you won't

Bolox, as said before, been through this many a time now and everyone is innocent till proven guilty, The magistraite can dole out what ever penalty they see fit all the way up to the maximum and not beyond.

Any solicitor will request all the evidence before there is any kind of hearing, and based on that evidence, they will advise you on what they think you should take.

As said before, if theres a descrepency or flaw in the evidence, doesnt matter what way the magistraite feels, see or takes it, rules are rules, laws are laws, if it can be thrown out, it will. If there are no flaws in the evidence, then you will be stood in front of them pleading circumstances or hardship.


and as for the legal aid, if the summons comes back with "you are charged with the offence of dangerous driving" then yes, you may be entitled to legal aid, as that carrys a possible prison sentance as you are then subject to criminal law, and no longer entirely subject to the road traffic act.
