Had a pal that worked in a Merc garage that told me of a salesman at his work that took a nearly new £80k AMG coupe out for a spin. Went along a country road at 122mph and saw a cop with a speed gun as he flew along the road.

The said salesman drove on for a bit, but reckoned they had caught him so he drove back to face the music. Officer said he hadn't got the reg no and thanked him for his honesty ! Still lost both his job and his licence though.

A moment of madness? 77 in a 70 is a moment of madness... 125 in a 70 is minutes of retardedness
Theivin is theivin no matter what, for which they should have a finger taken every time they're caught, but say doing 40 in a 30 at 8:50 am past a primary school isn't the same as doing 40 in a 30 just before the speed limit change on a country road with just feilds either side, technically both the same offence and both wrong but one is far worse than the other.
77 in a 70 a moment of madness, come off it, if you really believe that then you should seriously think about selling your scoob, first dibs on the lights though before you do. The general rule is 10% + 2 which at 70 is 79, the cops won't even bother you on the motorway at that speed.

Naaaah......it white was mentioned because as we all know, white Scoobs aren't very fast at all, and 125 is a good result. Green ones are fastest!

I think we're all probably guilty of "pushing the envelope" a bit at times in our cars, but there's a time and a place for it........this case was obviously not the time, nor place!!

"Helping the motorist to get justice"

come on, I got 3 points and a 60 pound fine for doing 44 in a forty zone at 3 in the morning. You will get a ban, how long depends on the impact you make on the day.

What gets me is other day, one of these cop programs and a kid of 15 years old got stopped driving without a licence, mot, tax etc, he got a 2 year ban. Correct me if I am wrong but it that not what all 15 year old boys have until they are 17, a ban from driving lol.

say…

you need your car for your job, your income your life.
On top of that, you were going quick because of a emergency (think of something)
at no point did you even look at what speed you were doing, yes you knew you were going fast, but because of the preoccupation on your mind you had no idea it was that fast! say sorry, make sure you get across it was completely out of character.
Turn up smart, don’t be cocky, even cry a little, if you cannot do that get your girl to lol.

This is what I friend of mine did when doing 117mhp on the motorway, ending up just getting 8 points with £100 fine.

Your friend was lucky... they could have seen it that he was driving with undue care and attention i.e. he wasn't concentrating on the driving...

No, but there is the law and then there is the application of the law (i.e. justice)

I would, for example, have no problems with a policeman settling for a quiet word in someone's ear if they were doing 100 at 3am on a deserted stretch of motorway!

I would, however, have a big problem with someone getting off scott free after having done 50mph outside a school at 3:30pm.

Ok, so two rather extreme ends of the contimumm, granted, but it does illustrate that the seriousness of the offence is determined by more than just speed. That's no to say that the law doesn't apply, just that the punishment should reflect due consideration of relevant mitigating circumstances.

Weather you agree with it or not the law states that the speed limit on a dual carriage way or motorway is 70mph. Those of you that are trying to justify 125mph regardless of time, weather conditions, colour of car etc... are a bunch o ****'s. What makes ye think that you are above the law just cause you drive a Subaru. The law is the law, break it, shut up and accept the punishment. It's the risk you take.

Wonder how long it will be before I get called a dick on this site.

I think that is a very truthfull comment you've made if not slightly on the harsh side

The best way is not to get caught but when you do, a little advise never goes a-miss

everyone of us speed at some point especialy if you own a scooby .... its just unlucky if youre caught ,but i think motorways are the best place for it as there arent any pedestrians ....if you drive through towns that display the road death toll from the year before compared to the current year ,and they say speeding reduces death ,its all bollox because the people who smashed there cars up and killed people are in jail so the death toll will drop the following year as the morons are in jail :P

now knowing this part of road theres a couple of things you could get off with your speeding 1 calibration cert for the gun 2 the police have to be visibal from about 200 yrd (so if they were sitting on a slip road they cant do you with a speed gun) if they were on the opersite carridge way there not aloud to use a speed gun accross the flow of traffic theres also somet about signs on the side of the road warning you about speed guns if theres none on the strech of road there not ment to be able to use them but im sure the A69 does have them along most of it and the last 1 there are 2 types of speed gun one of them can not be used inf the weather isnt dry or there a any metal fences this includes the metalic road marker signs you see standing at the side of the road as these interfear with the readings produced by the gun im sure a good solicitor will be able to help good luck

You're missing the point mate: I wasn't saying that time, weather conditions etc should mean that the law is not applied. He broke the posted speed limit and got caught, some level of intervention is needed or they'd be no point in having the limit! This is the law.

I was saying that -as with any other offence- the magnitude of the punishment is not uniform under all circumstances; it is subject to a number of mitigating factors. That is where tha above factors are relevant.

This is the application of the law i.e. justice.

Just before your court case you could pretend to accidently hurt your back in a fall and go on sick leave and spin it out for the duration of the ban this would help you keep your job but dont tell anyone at work whats happening with the speeding situation ...

very lucky, but if your doing that speed then you should get a ban. i don’t see any reason why on this earth you should be doing this speed, we don’t have the stills to react at in the time needed, unless you are fighter pilot? r u?

but less not forget the copper that got off doing 100mph in a undercover car when not on duty, he got off free as he stated he was testing the performance of the car!

Sorry mate but if you're job is reliant on your driving license maybe you should have considered this more before going into triple figures.

If this is your first offence I would imagine that declaring the fact that you rely on driving as a means of income you will be given some leanancy, a hefty fine and points.

I guess it depends where you was when caught, i.e. 125 in a 30 or 125 on the motorway.

Good luck on the outcome tho, hope they dont come down on you too hard.

I got stopped for doing well over 100mph a few years ago, It was about 11.30pm on a dual carrigeway, the roads were dry & clear. When i got out and spoke to the 2 officers i was very polite & friendly, they had it on camera that i was doing about 115mph, but would report me for doing 99mph.

When i went to court i wore a shirt & tie, had a letter from my boss saying that i needed my licence & that i brought in people to work with me.

The magistates gave me a £100 fine & only 3 points on my licence. Boy did i want give them a Hug.

Good luck

Shaun
