Agree SB. And thats all it would be (a level playing field) My TSL 333 Sti8 was pretty much equal with an 54 plate M3. Couldn't gain once it was rolling and if I was it was by a mere few inches. There would certainly be no chance of me undertaking once in 5th/ 6th.

Different story now following additional upgrades but you have to be realistic Alex. Perhaps the driver was just being a little more "sensible"

It will be on acceleration, i had a do with a convertable (which are a lot heavier i admit) and i was right with him in my lightly modded classic up to a point, admittedley if the speeds had continued into a silly amount (above 100) i have no doubt he would have toasted me,

M3's (CSL's Excluded) just do not impress me at all - well ok just a little bit

Hello mate,

Yeah I agree with you completely but it isn't a case of "but if it was a..." I just wanted to prove a point to this guy as he thought his car was fast but there is always someone faster and they sometimes come disguised as a car that looks like it come out of a Cornflake packet. I.e. - I would of lost if I came up against a DB9, 911 Turbo, Diablo, but I didn't I came across a M3 Convertible.

Well said lmao

I used to think making these threads was good myself back in the day. But when people lose lives to such nonsense, you realise how pathetic it really is.

Save the racing for the track, not public roads. Santapod, oulton park, silverstone for instance..

Alex - I'm glad you had a little play with this guy - hope he appreciated it. Whatever the car, I like to see a bit of mutual respect afterwards (if they can still see you). I'm all up for a bit of 'seeing what someone else is capable of', but not just those with expensive cars. Most should know a Scoob is more than capable of showing them who's boss, but the driver will play a big part in it - both in the skills and in the **** stakes (motoring around blind bends, etc). I also don't mind the older, cheaper looking motors having a go (unlike most on here) - someone in a (non-standard) mk1 Cav (Y reg?) wanted a go, it was no good on the bend going down to the Dual carriageway but it sure did have some go on the straight. I indulged and although I had to hold off slightly as there was no overtaking place due to other traffic there was not a great deal in it. A friendly wave ended the 'duel' as he left the DC.

That's not really the issue here. The problem people have with these threads is that they are quite pointless in the grand scheme of things. We are all aware of the capabilities of these cars and don't really need to come on here and tell and sundry about our exploits on the public road.

As someone just said that Safety should always come 1st. Now I do challenge that fact that you should leave racing to the tracks. Well proper Racing yes (don't ask me to define proper racing!) but if your just putting your foot down and going for it providing there nothing else on the road, its when you see people doing whatever it takes and being really silly I.e overtaking on blind bends Ect. If you don't wanna have fun on the roads then just go and buy a track day car instead. I know its not the most moral of things but its true.
On a completely different note, when I was in Power Engineering lat week I saw this Bog standard Focus Lx with the bonnet up and this massive sparkling engine. All standard on the car apart from his 330bhp engine. Now that's what I call Stealth Power.

Thumbs down

After owning a P1, 340 brake evo 7, m3, e39 m5 and now a wagon ppp, granted off the mark you may of kept-up until about 70-80 maybe a little more if you were right behind due to drag, but side by side from 50 if the m3 was driven properly ie take to redline as the last 2k revs is were it all happens in an m3 it would be a different story, esp if it was paddle shift with launch control, if he looked as you say he did he has proberly never driven the car above 5k revs and never been beyond 100mph. if i were you i wouldnt flatter yourself.

They could surf forums all they want - they actually have to prove you did it. I could claim I drove at 140mph and ran over two small children today if I wanted - its not going to see me going to jail for causing death by dangerous driving.

yawn yawn yawn, what boring threads and pathetic boy racers SN has nowadays. When will people realise that there's more to a car than straight speed. I take comfort and handling anyday over an understeering jap tin

Can anyones Subaru (beside Andy Forest & Co) do this?

Just for the record, its a standard CSL

At the end of the day it's down to relivance of cost, How much did that bmw cost? loads, how much did the scooby cost? nowhere as much..... I love the performance of my scoob for how much I bought it for,And yes I have had a few ding dongs with porches/bmws nobles etc and I may not have been as fast, but have never been made to look slow,in fact I've been pleased with the performance of my STIPPP, Just as a side note here, to look at it from another prospective a buddy at work has a 89 honda civc that he has turbocharged the total cost including buying the car was £1500 quid and in a straight line he can keep with me upto 90mph(when it's not blowing boost hoses etc!) I guess he must feel the same was as we do to more expensive motors.

Spec c would do that easy

Was at oulton park the other week and had a good stint with a csl which had a few goodies on it.Cut a long story short he couldn't catch me so i let him past and was up his bumper all the way, but had to ease of plenty of times.

I was under the impression these cars were sh#t hot, would perfer an rs4 anyday.

Can't see a problem with this thread myself. We've got fast cars so we'll all use them in the way they were intended at some point. So long as it's not all day every day where's the harm

BTW I had a "play" with a 350Z on way to work the other day, not crazy speeds just fast. Both went our different ways with a grin & a thumbs up, great fun

TX.

I hope you had axle stands under the car as well as the jack when you took that photo.

I can't quite see the w*nker switch, where is it on that car?

Agree with the switch quote, also what are those arrow things at either side of the rev counter and speedo . If they are indicator flashers that PROVES this is NOT a BMW.

Having a play is fine in my book so long as the environment where (and when) you do it is well factored in
