I still can't wait for the full game, but I think they have missed the point with the demo.
They should have given you half the cars, the rest being unlocked with podiums, times etc

FM1 will probably get more attention from me until next month (unless Halo3 demo is worth playing)

im guessing the graphics in hd must be soooooooo much better than on a crt cos the graphics though smooth & crisp are very uninspiring

The one thing I don't like about the 360 graphics, and this may sound strange, is that everything looks too crisp and shiney!.
GT4 on the PS2 had a certain grittyness about it, the cars didn't shine like mirrors and the grass etc didn't look like it was lifted off a bowling green.

Exactly what I've always thought when comparing PS to Xbox, I prefer the PS "grittyness"

What do I need to get this demo? Xbox Live and the wireless adaptor?

I think you can d/l the demo without the 'pay for' gold account, just use the free silver one. If you can locate your 360 near your router, just connect it with a cross over cable.

A demo is a preview not 1/5 of the game

Just been playing with the ms wheel in the leggy, m3, rx8 and type r.

A lot of fun. Turned all the assists off apart from abs. Handling is good. Each car is different and you can definately tell fw, rwd and 4wd. Only one track but enough cars for a demo. Cannot change controller options and sim/arcade modes or tuning yet though......

Looks promising so far.

If you want a proper driving sim, you sould play the GTR games on the PC. Forza 2 is much closer to the sim side than the GT series ever has been.

What wrong with them then? They are higher resolution than PGR3, there is more detail displayed, the full game has a huge amount of car customization options (tuning on all 300+ cars, as well a body kits etc, and custom decals which apparently you can customize yourself with up to 4000 layers of paint on each car), and of course it runs faster than PGR3...

Ah, you mean that one track demo with old physics modeling, no damage, no werar&tear, no online play, inferior acoustics, no customization options, no rumble feedback etc...

Why don't you sell your 360 and get a PS3 instead if you hate it so much
Who said I dont have a PS3.

I have played LFS on the PC (a very highly regarded racing sim) and this forza stuff. Forza im sorry to say it cant touch the GT series for physics. i dont give a pony about wear and tear or damage, im talking about how the cars feel and drive in the game comparable to real life.

Graphics are really really terrible though. Not much better than Forza 1 are they.

And as for GT HD making forza look silly, well thats pretty impressive isnt it for a game thats basically just GranTurismo 4 anyway.

You don't care about grip levels, accurate / modifyable handling characteristics etc, but then try and compare it to real life. I suppose tires and mechanical bits don't warm up or wear out in real life then?

Graphics are really really terrible though. Not much better than Forza 1 are they.
They are obviously a lot better than Forza 1. If you truly think this then you obviously haven't played the games very much. I'm interested to hear what you think is so bad about them?

It doesn't make forza look silly though. When GT HD can keep up that level of detail, with numerous AI controlled cars on track at the same time, damage modelling, customizable tuning / decals etc, and online play, then I'll be impressed. GT HD as it stands is just a basic tech demo with pretty average handling (i.e. GT4).

If you don't like it, don't read it...

I just don't understand AudiLovers comments about thinking the GT games handle like real cars when they make no attempt at modelling many of the key components that determine the handling of a particular vehicle. So there

The demo is pretty easy, but I'm pretty impressed with the AI on the opponent cars. Deliberately let the pack get away and then try to catch up. The other cars do actually battle with you, (they don't just stick to the racing line like they do in certain other games )

for some reason kids in pgr3 dont appreciate it when you race through sticking to the racing line whether theyre there or not

I meant unlock the cars they have already given us (ie start with about 10, unlock the remaining cars)

The Crackdown demo was (for me) spot on.
It gave you just enough to keep coming back (how big can I jump, new weapons, kill different bosses)

While I think about it, Rainbow/Vegas was another good demo (I believe they did actually give you 1/12 of the game )

Either way, the demo has generated more than enough attention to carry over until the release.

I wasnt initially that impressed but the handling feels pretty good, the way they have captured the feeling of friction with the road surface is great, the screeching sounds from the tyres sound realistic and the way you can drift a car seems accurate, i.e. over do it and it spins convincingly.

I reckon the final game will be fantastic, the demo of Forza put a lot off but the final game was brilliant, really enjoyed sliding the McMerc around.

Fancy a bit of friendly competition?

Post up your time, what assists, controller and car type....

Maybe no assists but abs?

Anyone up for it?

Worth downloading for free and hasn't put me off buying it when it comes out but not the best demo in the world.
Took about 30mins last night on my 2m b/b connection so not too bad.

Yes

I would suggest all aids off (except ABS - I really hope they sort the over sensitivity of this in the final game!), manual gears and the C class cars to start with

theres no antilasing on the demo, thats why everything looks rough. its to keep size to a minimum for live d/l otherwise it would take a week to d/l.

i thought it was ok, not like pgr when you can make a mess of a corner and correct it with ease, if your going in to fast your on the grass end of.

more of a simulator than a arcade game.

108.633 in the leggy with abs, manual gears, ms wheel.

56.something yesterday manual gears in the mac f1.

Ill try some more later.

This is so much better than pgr and is definately more sim like. Nice drifts out of corners. Loads of fun.

My only gripe with it is the graphics, just wasn't wowed by them, the decals on the race cars are extremely low res, but maybe it's just to keep the demo size small *fingers crossed* another thing i didn't like was the replays, utterly uninspring, especially when you play GT HD back to back with it.
