Ian let me have a drive of his Spec C RA last year and i have to say for a virtually standard road car the thing was absolutely awesome...just a shame there not officially available in UK or we would get to work on a lot more of them

650cc's @3.5bar fuel pressure.....they were completely maxed out at 504HP though so i would probably reccomend going to 800's if you were to try it

Just read the post on asking about the Anti-Lag
I was going to make the statement that it sounded more like launch control than Anti-Lag.
And the "full on anti lag" ?
Anti Lag is Anti Lag. Dumping fuel pre turbo to keep it spooled. Which means it should be "popping" when off throttle and not rat a tat on throttle.
So are you guys dumping fuel pre turbo
or have some sort of RPM limiter going?
Nice numbers BTW and
more and more people are getting away from ECUTEK do to cost and limitations. I think OpenECU will be the norm soon. Mate has been tuning is 02 WRX with it and we will be taking a Stage 2 EvuTek 04 WRX , swaping in an 03 ECU and tuning it with OpenECU. Also we will be attempting my 2.5NA soon.

Call me stupid (steady! ), but with ALS, what happens to the boost in between gear changes? I know the principles of less lag etc.

ie. You change gear at 1.5bar, it currently drops to -0.5 or whatever. When running the ALS, does it keep it from dropping below at a predefined level ( 0, 0.5 bar etc)? Hence the mild to wild quotes.

All depends how aggressive you have it set up

So i am right in thinking that. So if it's super-wild, the car could lurch, or then mild would keep it at 0 bar.

Do explain, i'm intrigued.

Yes the car does lurch slightly when the antilag disables. When you let off the throttle there is a throttle bypass valve which allows a small amount of air in so that the fuel being injected into the exhaust can be ignited. On lift off with antilag the car doesn't slow down as quickly as without and there is still a slight vacuum due to the light setting we have it on at the mo.

I am presuming this has STI forged pistons as std?

Have you had any experience with the hyperuectic pistons in the 06 version?

Excellent!

I'm sure if this is perfected, switchable and at a decent cost, people will be lining up.

Yes it is running completetly standard internals!

We have only run them at stage 1 to 352HP/412FtLb so far, but currently working on a forged internal package which should cope with 450/450+

Not bad figures though its borrowed time unless you go for a fully forged engine, the standard STI parts will let go someone may put a link up to the poor fellow in scotland who did 9k on his 500bhp+ car until it let go (in a really big way ) the video footage of it burning wasnt nice

Not trying to prove anything. It was and still is a test to see what these engines can handle in standard trim and how long they will last. There have always been guestimates as to what the limit is for any given year of impreza. This was an update for people interested in whether the car was still running and what it has been used for.

You see a lot of posts from people asking "will it be reliable" when they are thinking of tuning. At least if they see this it will give them a good idea that say a 400bhp conversion should be bullit proof on a similar year car.

Yea I saw that I always keep a fire extinguisher in the car since I tried to help a fella in renault laguna a fews years back when his car caught fire. I know you can't always stop them but hopefully if it does let go it won't be quite as dramatic as his.

Cheers Anger will hopefully be at the next meet

They are amazing engines. I would be interested in just how many bigger power engines there are that have standard internals and how long they have been running for.
