just with being a man utd fan over the most prosperous (ie tv £££) years footballs ever had, you get a lot more stick than any other club do. i take it on the chin, part and parcel of supporting a massive team i suppose. its leeds i feel sorry for
leeds..........yeah so do i but we have been exactly where they are infact i first started following the blues properly we were in the 3rd division (season tickets) i can remember 4k fans loosing to teams like notts county regulary

i honestly think man utd fans will never know the true meaning of being a fan. You may think you do only those born insight of the floodlights of old trafford can say there true man utd.

Nottingham Forest, through all their ups and downs (and there have been some downs in recent seasons), since the early Seventies.
At least we've got some trophies in the cabinet to look back on

City Ground, oh mist rolling from the Trent.
My desire, is always to be there
Oh City Ground..

Any "Cockney Reds" want to post here and explain themselves.

A phenomenon peculiar to the south east I expect. You don't hear of Mancunians or Scousers supporting London clubs, however successful they are.

That is because no London team has the history of either Man Utd or Liverpool. Sure, Arsenal have had their purple patch and are still a succesful club, plus Tottenham won a couple of trophies in their time too, but no London club, in particular Chelsea, can hold a candle to either Man Utd or Liverpool in terms of history, tradition, and in particular silverware.

The closest is Arsenal, but in terms of history and tradition, teams like Forest and Stoke can still show a lot of London teams a thing or two about history.

Incidentally, I am no "cockney red" but can understand many who are.

I was born in Hartlepool and lived there till I was 26.

I was brought up as a Newcastle fan and as I now live in Liverpool I face a desperate battle to steer my 2 sons (2 years and 16 weeks) away from the red and blue and toward the black and white.

I'll make sure I take them to St James Park and hopefully that'll convert them

Crystal Palace, my local team as a boy and still only 20 mins away, although Millwall is even nearer to me these days. Season ticket for 10 years.

It's like having the life slowly drained out of you. I sometimes toy with watching a non-league team instead - cheaper, better tea - but the lure of a half-frozen pasty keeps reeling me in back to Selhurst Park.

CPFC first played in 1865 y'know... where were MUFC and LFC then eh???

Playing teams like Preston North End and Everton, winning "titles" and adding them to their historical achievements list even though there was no competition? What do i win?

There's only one reason to support a football team, and that's where you were born!

Therefore I am a Bristol City fan Automatic promotion to the Championship after knocking on the door for 8 years!

(I'm not a supporter as I haven't been in years, therefore haven't supported them much lately, it's 4000 miles!)

There may be reasons (excuses) to support Man Utd when you live in Penzance, but it all boils down to glory!

There are other reasons. I was born near Leicester, moved around a fair bit as a child, but family roots are in Norfolk, and when I was young I often went to Carrow Road with my grandmother, so have been a Norwich City supporter ever since a very young age. With our showing this year in the championship, it's hardly glory hunting (although the 1993-4 UEFA cup season may suggest otherwise )

Admittedly we did have some rather dodgy strikers in the mid-late 80s (you know who you are )
