^ Worst tires I've ever had. Would squeal at around 5 mph make a u-turn.

You need an excess of power over traction for a start. This is most easily achieved if the conditions are low friction, e.g. wet grass or snow. The normal front/rear split of torque doesn't help, a bias towards the rear greatly improves the yaw angle you can maintain.

In the snow with my WRX on winter tyres, I have to do an aggressive Scandinavian flick to really get the back end out and slide it nicely, otherwise it'll just understeer.

 

Not sure if I would call it a drift but managed to induce some nice short drifting turning right out of a junction. Waited for a gap, set the DCCD to first green light and then gave the car 1/4 throttle as I turned right and then floored it shifting to second, felt the rear twitch to the left and then the whole car slide sideways across to the left lane and straightened itself up.

Similar again, sweeping left slip lane joining into a dual carriage way (almost every road in MK is two lanes per side), hold the rev's in third, as I hit the apex of the bend I powered out and much to my shock and delight the car just power slided in a 4 wheel drift all the way across the lanes before I shifted up to 4th and carried on to the roundabout - not that I want to do this again but was fun in this crap weather all the same.

Btw I am running on 17" 40 profile Potenza's that are 50% worn so probably had poor grip with these (they are great in dry weather but crap otherwise).

 

Our Type RA will step out in first and second whilst corneing hard, its just not smooth, the back trys to snap back into line.

As Im used to reasonable power rwd cars (we have a 592bhp rwd Skyline competition car amongst others) Ive got the DCCD perminantly set to full rear bias.

 

I am using 2nd green light for most damp days now, back wheels break away but you have more control thanks to the front wheels helping out.

I am used to rear wheel drive cars as well (had an RX7 efini prior to scooby ownership) so the RA feels at home with the DCCD set all the way back, just need to get used to the single turbo power delivery!
