I don;t think the actual essence of the "religion" is any more outlandish than any other. What was the focus of the programme, was the tactics used by the CoS to prevent people from "outing" information about them. Their use of the "fair game" policy to discredit critics, the encouragement of "disconnection" from freinds and families and the outright confrontationalism of the churches representatives.
F**k off you halfwit!!
Harsh, but fair! Although I did have to remind him that, at the time, he was drinking a Starbucks Coffee who had charged him about £3.50 for the privilage, which made him nearly as bad!!

Ah, JT's COS film, there's a shocker!
I agree that most relegions ask you to believe some pretty odd things, so someone from COS could well argue that, for example, what catholics belive is utter tosh. However, you're talking about a relegion that sounds very science fiction like, which is not surprising given that it's founder wrote SF, plus he was quoted as saying something along the lines of "Writing for a penny a word is ridiculous. If a man really wants to make a million dollars, the best way would be to start his own religion"

"A million monkeys with a million crayons would be hard-pressed in a million years to create anything as cretinous as Battlefield Earth."

Battlefield Earth isn't the worst film I've ever seen Sci-Fi wise anyway.
Space Truckers by far is THE worst Sci-Fi film I've ever seen and IIRC it has Dennis Hopper and Charles Dance - two actors who really should no better.
Not suggesting I'll be wailing at the sky everytime a plane flies overhead but I quite like the Sci-Fi theme to Scientology. Being a big fan of Warhammer 40K you could just as easily say our planet is yet to be re-discovered by the Imperium

You obviously haven't see the affront to humanity that is "SS Doomtrooper".
I watched it on Sky the other night. I sat through it because I was transfixed by the sheer level of ****eness.
It's like watching a man having a sex change operation. You aren't actually enoying what your eyes are showing you, but you sit open mouthed unable to look away from the horror.
SS Doomtrooper is like that, only far, far worse.
I really cannot describe how bad it is in the same way I can't describe how nice a Gu Chocolate Souffle is; you have to experience it to know.
I advise googling it.

I caught the documentary - it was shocking - you wouldnt find any of the Christian churches doing any of that - they literally turned up at every interview he was doing and listed all the faults of the interviewee - even posted up "information" on one guy on shop windows and telephone poles of his town.. or proceeded to shout down what the presenter was trying to achieve.
They seem to be worse than the mafia - maybe thats how John Travolta got his career back ..... in fact... take a peek at the careers of all the rich and famous before and after they joined... there's a thought..
And before anyones asks - I'm agnostic.

Time to educate you all on the foundation of Scientologists beliefs....You normally have to pay quite a bit of money to get to this phaeton (sp?) level, but I think its wrong for any religion to exploit peoples' beliefs for money, so think yourselves lucky!!

I have raced "Rael" himself loads of times on Liveforspeed
The Raelian Movement: Rael: Racing Car Driver
its quite funny that all his followers look up to him soooo much, longing for the day when they can kiss his feet, and me and the lads crash into him all the time on a computer game
Today, Rael is retired from professional racing, but still enjoys playing racing simulation games online in his spare time, especially Live for Speed where he races under the nick name of rael.org/racing and is one of the best of the world players.
seamed a top bloke to be honest, i think he is a legend

Good god. Wish I'd thought of that.
Always wondered how I'd be able to afford to go motor racing.
"Sorry chaps the big cheese has put me in charge and wants a tithe from earth of say £2M. If you have any queries, I'll be flying round the 'ring. Leave a message"
"PS - I said ring not rim so quit the Uranus jokes and coff up or I'll smite the lot of you!"
