Will the new equipment be a lot better than anything I could get for the same price then?

no, but if you've already gone through to sky , and they are sending an engineer out... if he turns up and sees a dish up / all cables in he'll just utilise whatevers there.. do you know how long its been there? how good a condition it is in? get the fekker to change it all.. its what he's paid for and more so , its what YOU have paid for

It's been up less than 18 months - it was in working order when the previous owners left. I've tested the dish on a standard Skybox and it does work.

An engineer is due on Sunday, but I'm sure I can phone up and cancel, as I was mislead on the phone.

I just don't see the point in paying for an 'installation' if it isn't required, and having just moved house we are looking to save money anywhere we can!

Cheers for the help

After speaking to Sky, if I get my own box then I would lose the 2 months half price, and obviously there would be no warranty on the equipment. I would still have to sign up for 12 months though. So weighing it up I think I may as well get the new stuff installed, but I will be making sure we get a new dish/cables etc.!

Cool...
When you say £0 per month, do you mean you're not getting clobbered for the extra £10 a month for Sky+ or actually not having to pay a subscription?!
On either of them, how long does the £0 a month last?

Hi there,
No, the £ 10.00 (sky + monthly charge) is due to finish end June 07 anyway, they will not charge you for the two months (or no. of equivilant weeks) prior to end June.

So effectively it is free, no cost for box, no cost for std install, no monthly charge for sky+

short of getting sky to pay me money this seemed like a good deal.

Didn't know this! So I could cancel the extra £16 per month Sky Sports package, and still get Sky+ for free on the basic (£21) package (from July anyway)?

Maybe I won't mention that bit to the girlfriend as my justification for getting Sports was that it was only £6 a month on top of the £10 Sky+ fee.

They haven't mentioned anything about dropping the £10 Sky+ charge? was it in the latest sky mag?
What they have done is change my Movies package now (I had the odd numbers which included the channel they put the premieres on) so I now don't get the premiere channel.
I'm moving soon so just thought I'd cancel Sky anyway (the only thing I'd miss is the Sky+ functionality etc).

I got sky+ for £49 (box and installation) and the extra £10 a month, was only on the £21 a month package.

Being installed on Tuesday

i'm happy with that, better than the £160.

Seems to be one of those rare occasions where existing customers can cut a better deal than new ones. New customers can't really threaten to leave!

My parents got a free Sky+ box and the £10 per month fee waived for threatening to cancel.

If anyone can recommend an avenue for getting HD without the £10 per month fee then i'd appreciate hearing about it!
