Instead of a P1, how about an sti5/6 type r? For 12K you would get an absolute minter (with prob less than 30,000 on the clock) then spend around £2000 on it and you'll a 350bhp rocket!

I said 380+, and I've done it for a friend's 8 MR, and the car has been to the rollers to verify, the operator praising its easy power, conservative boost and smooth, safe AFR plot. Tactrix cable for £45+delivery+tax, Walbro pump £70, decat pipe £50, airbox mod free. About £200 inc all the delivery and tax. He fitted the parts before he came, I spent about 90 mins mapping it.

Again, while I love the GTR its not quite the ultimate in terms of performance. Overall as a package it kicks ****, and I woudl do some unsavoury things to own an R34....

Ok, thanks for all the opinions guys - I got another car to add to the list. What about a 2001 Mazda RX7 RB-S package? A red one that happens to only have 10.5k on the clock and was imported brand new [so all the history is here] - I won't mention price, but to say the price is very good, though how much do you reckon such a rare, low mile, late RX7 is worth?
Although I know RX7's can blow up at any time! If looked after correct [oil change every 3k miles for instance], they can be really reliable - and my god it's an amazing looking car!!!

Ive owned a 350bhp Evo running Autronics etc, Ive also owned wait for it !!!
7 scoobies, including a New P1 back in 2001.
Drawback of P1 = all thrashed and ready to blow now, they dont tune well !
They are already fairly quick,.
Evo's, theres issues with the mak's, diff bolts sheering, and they arent particularly rapid as standard.
Id steer clear of skylines, as far as Im concerned they are unreliable and costly.
Im running a Version 5 Sti just now, a few mods, I come back to subaru's everytime just for the sheer, sound and enjoyment of it.
Tough choice, there is a well sorted P1 with the big brake conversion near me its on pistonheads for for 15k id go for that m8.

ive had a evo6 and it was a good car but was not involving enough and i was bored of it after a few months, ok it was faster than the scoob and it would out grip and change direction before the scoob thought about it.
my evo6 had only done 35k miles so i never had probs with diffs or gearbox but i know a few people with evos and after 40k miles it seems to be all down hill with blown gearboxes and diffs.
the only gtr worth getting is the r34.
the r33 is too dated and lardy.
id go for a newage sti or find a cheap p1 with a blown bottom end and get 2.5 engine in.

wow 7 scoobies? ........ i've had 9 scoobies and 3 evos
P1 = all Trashed ready to blow?? how did you work that out? any car will blow if driven and owned by chavs
btw.... Alll p1s are based on STI 5 engine and gearbox and thats what you are driving now.. so i guess its trashed and ready to blow as well??
Sorry have to say...lol

in standard trim a r34 gtr isn't that quick and they do really need 400 + to get them any where near a standard evo perfomance due to them being so damn heavy. the best of the bunch is the evo and it'l hold its money better than the others too. the p1 is the best daily drive but come on thats not why you buy any of the mentioned cars is it?. there was a mint evo 6 mak running 550 bhp on the lancerregister for about £17000 and there arn't many cars in the country that would keep up with that ion a straight line let alone on some winding roads or the track. and as for dc's the type r's are good but not in the same league as the others..

I was umming and arring a few years ago when I was about to buy - and drove an EVO6 TME - was very quick - but a bit boring and a bit too safe - P1 felt faster and more on the edge and more raw! EVO build quality (interior) is better - but the P1 in my view is much more fun to drive and I just LOVE how classic Scoobs look. To be honest though the STIV is a better car - the P1 is based on it - but lacks the DCCD and also 2 pot rear brakes - and you can't just swap them over either as the hubs are different - as have chunkier rear axles I think - due to ability to wind the drive to the rear. Also cheaper - and as suggeted above, you can spend the saving on mods. I think I wrote a really long guide to P1s and whether they were worth it a couple of years ago - so you can do a search against my user intials if you like to see if it's any help?
Good luck!
Too late fro me as I have faleln in love with my P1 - but unless the price is right I reckon teh STIV is a better and certainly cheaper bet - althogh P!s look cool with the bumper and spoiler!!!!!!!1
