Nope, but it did have a certain functional charm and was spot on in terms of size; bigger than an Escort, smaller than a Mondeo. the interior from the MY98 wasn't so bad either...oh and it was an absolute hoot to drive!

That's what sold it to me in '98...questioning my loyalty now though with its current image...

Dont bother me too much what others do with theirs or their image to be honest theres still plenty of good classics left, wont be buying another impreza though, when i do change cars will be for an evo i reckon.

Wow, I find it surprising that they're struggling to shift 07's etc.. Not like they are ugly cars (probably the best looking scooby yet). How will they manage when the 08's hit the shelves? Jesus..

A simple answer would be Imports.

Why spend money on a UK spec WRX when, for not much more money, Litchfield Imports or whoever can bring a WRX STI Spec C etc with performance upgrades and have it SVA'd for less, and as a consumer, why should have to pay for the former. We all want the best deal for our hard earned, its only natural, if it means buying from a non official but well organised company then so be it.

i agree a good condition classic does look nice.
pslewis, i think if people are worried more about mpg than bhp they would not have bought an impreza turbo, imo

sounds to me like everyone on here is obsessed with looks.Nobody knows how the MY08 drives yet still choose other marques before the impreza why? if you want a good looking car buy something italian.Personally i buy a car for the way it drives and performs on the road not purely based on how it looks

Its the whole package I go for. A car has to look good on my drive whatever it performs and drives like. Afraid that Subaru have lost the plot with the MY08 so will be sticking with my Mercedes S class unless they give it a drastic facelift immediately. Even the Hawkeye struggles to tempt me. Probably a phenomenal drive but it looks cack with those chav rear lights and Seat front end. I still think a good well kept classic looks awesome. Personal favourite is Blobeye STI for looks and has to be Lichfield Type 25 as most desirable.

Yeah but there are competitiors out there with the complete package.

Build quality, reliability, great drive and great looks. The fact that subaru seem to have screwed the looks up yet again already makes them have to play catchup with the competition

the WRX is under powered in to days market.

Other manufactures are offering hot hatches for less money and more power

You tell me a car as good as the hawkeye that you can pick up for 14.5k cos i cant think of any,bmw just an overpriced german cortina wouldnt bat an eyelid if one drove past like most people wouldnt.
You drive round in a subaru everyone notices it and most people comment on how good they look.If you want a car that blends in buy your bmws mercs etc
if you want something unique get subaru or evo, simple

The only reason Subrau dealers are struggling in sales is because they arn't selling some 1.6 Econo-box to compete with a Ford Focus or similar.

And thats only the fault of the Dealers for not understanding the market for Subaru in this country - which is primarly for Turbo'd Imprezas. It doesn't matter what they do; they're never going to sell as many WRX's as a ford dealer does 1.6 Focus's.

If Subaru UK can't/won't import or market the other Subaru models in this country properly its only their fault.

... That's just not true though is it? What stock hot hatch could compete with even a bog standard WRX??

A new WRX at £14k is a total performance steal.

If someones looking for a very tuneable, track-toy, I struggle to see how you'd do much better. So it hasn't got touchy-feely plastics.. big deal...

Please provide details of any 200+bhp car you can buy brand new for 14k? (let alone a 4-door saloon with 4WD..!)

Totally agree nothing can touch a wrx in the performance for money stakes, remember another £1400 on this car and your upto 300bhp,thats the same as the entry evo which is 28K and not much difference handling.
16k for a 300bhp

working on UK prices not EU import (show me a UK WRX for £14k BTW its £14999)

UK WRX 230bhp = £20097 The Subaru Range - 07MY Impreza - Impreza 2.5 WRX/WRX SL Saloon | Subaru (UK) Ltd.
UK Seat leon Cupra 240bhp = £19610 SEAT.co.uk > MODELS & PRICES

I'll still go for the impreza but as figures shown above you can get more bhp for less money

Eh? Name another car as fast as a STi with a lower tax bracket? It must be the case that any modern (06 onward) fast car will be hit with this tax bill?

Car of choice with Chavs Can Chavs afford to spend £15k-£30k on their car? If it's the older Scoobs that you refer to (?) then I'd guess some of them are probably running around in Mark One Evos too Perhaps also Cossie's, Escort RS Turbos, Integrales ... common theme here?

officially in the UK? Remember the man in the streety isn't going to look into importing all the special editions, they want to go to the dealer, buy a car.

The MY08 might sell more cars because it is a eurobox with quite simple styling. Seems people on here might stop buying it though because it isn't sporty or agressive looking enough. Tricky to win without a special edition.

Also the original point was that Subaru still have as one size fits all attitude. Mitsi changed that because they realised it couldn't be done. The Evo II was still called a Lancer for example and looked like a family car with a spoiler stuck on. They dropped the Lancer and just stuck with Evo making the cars proper sporting with no grandad version in beige. Subaru need to do the same i think. Keep the sporting cars lioke the STi and WRX and build some regular motors for everyone else, maybe sans boxer engine.

(at least for the impreza range)

It's not just the impreza that Subaru can not shift.... special offers all over the place. The latest being the B9 with the 5-5-5-5 offer. 5 years 0%, 5 years warranty, 5 years free servicing and 5 years road side assistance. Now if that's not a desperate attempt to shift cars i don't know what is. The MY06 i have now will be the last subaru i own, without doubt.

They do - 1.5R Wagon and the 2.0 RX.

As for paying UK list price for an Impreza.. if you pay UK list price for ANY car I think your a bit of an idiot and the salesman will think he's stuck gold!

And don't forget - the 2007 WRX won the Caravan Club of GB's Towcar of the Year 2007 award.. - what more convincing do you need?!

Im talking eu prices cos like any normal person they shop around buying a new car.If i was buying a focus i would still import as its cheaper and very easy these days.
But my 07 will also be the last one i have, you pick a car you like the look of at the end of the day not for the brand and the new one doesnt appeal to me
Others it might, only time will tell

Why? because ive told the truth? I take it your a classic owner so have never owned both a classic and a new age? the new age looks much more up to date, park a classic next to a new age and the classic really does look old compared to the new age, acutally park a classic next to any car after 1999 and it looks dated

Tony
