No the Impreza has never been the most attractive car on the planet and it never will, but I don't think its particularly ugly ether.
The problem for me with the looks of the 08 is not that its ugly, but it just looks like so many other cars its so, 'generic', when you look at the classics through to the Hawk eyes its the same as looking at say a Porsche or Ferrari, a Porsche looks like a Porsche, a Ferrari looks like a Ferrari, you look at them and think wow check out the porch etc, they are Iconic cars, you look at them and you know what you are looking at, they are what they are, and its the same with the Impreza and Evo, the only difference is that the Scoob and Evo are a whole lot more affordable.
Some may find it sad but I love the fact that I can own a car I used to love playing with on the PS2, and I know many will disagree but most the people I know and especially at work are all surprised at how little my car cost me, they easily rank my Scoob up with Porsche and the like and its only a UK 2000, many of them have said that if they had known they could get so much for the money they wouldnt have got there golfs and Astra's etc.
Going back to the 08 Impreza, whilst I really think its a shame when you look at it it doesn't have the wow factor anymore(may change with the STI, you can but hope) and it just looks like any other hatchback, I can understand them wanting to get into the big hatch market, what is quite ironic is that most other manufacturers seem to be focusing a lot more on performance saloons now, the very territory Subaru are moving away from, Subaru are entering some very hotly contested ground with a hatch, but I guess as a company that has survived all this time they must know what they are doing? personally I was hoping they would go the same way with the scoob as the evo and produce a mean machine that looks fit for purpose too, but sadly that's not the case, so maybe it is time to move on? personally I'm quite happy with my classic.

Why? because ive told the truth? I take it your a classic owner
so have never owned both a classic and a new age? the new age looks much more up to date, park a classic next to a new age and the classic really does look old compared to the new age, acutally park a classic next to any car after 1999 and it looks dated ![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)

Just because a car doesn't look up to date is no reason to diss it, I'm a classic owner and very proud to be too, and no I haven't owned a newage but I have driven my brothers 05 and yes the classic doesn't look dated, but I like the look of both and personally think my classic is more fun to drive as it doesn't have so much of the modern EU padding as the newer cars, but then I have to say I quite like the more refined interior of the newage, both have pros and cons but at the end of the day there both Scoobys and both bloomin good cars so can we all be friends?

Have just heard that Robert Bowett in Leeds are to stop selling new subarus they have only been selling them for a short while. They say that they are having difficulty selling them but will still do servicing and used sales. They obviously don't think its worth waiting for the MY08 either![Frown](images/smilies/frown.gif)

So the same will happen with the hatchback, looks like any hatch, add a few scoops and vents to make it more desirable and voila Subaru or any other manufacturer butching up a standard car.

Subaru should have followed the clever strategy that Mitsubishi have followed, especially with their Gen 10 Evo. If anything Subaru have regressed further back with the new model. Yes they have to appeal to a wider audience but that does not mean with a rubbish, diluted, bland design they have now produced for the new Imprzeza. With almost all car manufacturers around the world making losses (with exception of Toyota & a few German brands) Subaru are going to find times hard in the future.
I was very keen to buy a MY06 STI PPP in a year or so, but with everyone making a joke about how bad the new Impreza looks (MG lookalike etc), this has had an effect on the Impreza name, older models aswell.

Subaru's are ugly as sin, the build quality is scary and the servicing and parts costs are astronomical.. No wonder nobody buys them! The only reason the Impreza WRX/STi/Turbo does so well is its a hell of a fast car for the money.

If you take off the scoops or vents off a Scoob or Evo be it a classic, bugeye, blobeye, hawkeye they ALL look like very very bland saloon cars and they have always been very 'generic' as they are based on a saloon shell.
So the same will happen with the hatchback, looks like any hatch, add a few scoops and vents to make it more desirable and voila Subaru or any other manufacturer butching up a standard car.

Isn't it amazing how you can get so defencive over a bit of metal and rubber I keep catching myself doing it
, at the end of the day Subaru are a business out to make money pure and simple, there going to go where the money is, I'm just surprised how they have lasted so long when they make such bad design mistakes, as I mentioned before the new car isn't really ugly its 'generic' and dull , ok the basic impreza is just a saloon and can be described as 'generic' I suppose, it still only looks like a Subaru to me tho, I mean when even the cheapest car makers are making an effort on design now how could Subaru come up with something that not only looks like every other car but looks out of date too.
I love the look of the VXR, Ford have there own look with the Focus and Honda have the mad looking Civic why did Subaru have to do a Mazda BMW hybrid with a hint of Daewoo and Chrysler and not even the best bits.....ok I'll stop now I'm ranting again....doh!
