With our son we got a travel system so car seat, carry cot and buggy. Wish we hadn't now as the carry cot hasn't lasted with either of them! I've learnt that all singing all dancing stuff is usually useful for about 2 months then you have to go and get something else. If i was buying all that stuff again, i would just buy this Pushchair

Cino/KoT - Well aware that it could easily go out of the window but it's a nice idea!
A bit wary of hospitals and heard a few hygiene horror stories recently so would rather just spruce the house right up and have it here if we can.
Fingers crossed!

My Mrs is expecting out first on 4th Jan 2008

We have went for a Graco Travel system - think it was a shade under £300 by the time you buy the rain cover & the fancy bag thing. The lady at Toys-R-Us was very helpful and took various prams etc out to our car & demonstrated each one fully.

Graco Quattro Tour Deluxe Travel System in Granite , Graco - Babies R Us

Fortunately the Mrs sister-in-law just had twins in January this year so she's been good at giving us sound advice.

20-week scan next Wednesday - hopefully find out the sex

We had our first at home even though the hospital refused to 'sign it off' saying it was dangerous (which under NICE guidelines thay absolutely cannot say as the risks of home and hospital births are pretty much identical).

Very relaxed, very cool and very quick. All over in four hours. House to ourselves an hour later. Truda had a small amount of Entonox as the baby was 9lbs and his head was 2cm larger in diameter than average!

My question about the sex is why would you wait if you could know now?

I am not sure what the whole 'surprise' thing is about!

i dont get that either, but then i have no patience at all, we bought the pilko pramette im reliably informed by the missus, and it is still far to much money for a pushchair if you ask me, but i agreed that anything to do with cars i dealt with and anything to do with baby she dealt with

Rannoch - nor am I but we made that decision, we know it's looking very positive and we literally don't mind one bit whether it's a girl or a boy - wasn't planning on any pink outfits anyway!

It has not really hit home yet I keep forgetting about it until I see her bump.

Pram wise we have gone for the quinny buzz, bit pricy but look's pretty cool and handles good. I quite fanced the Jane which has a 2 pot caliper and wavy disc!!

Been checking out small motor bikes on ebay as well but that will have to wait a couple of years I suppose.
Lots of congrats in order on this thread LOL

Ultimately up to you if you find out the sex, but bear in mind they *can* make mistakes... Not often, but they can.

As Cino sys, it does make things a lot easier in some respects because you can get a room ready and get anything you may want or need and clothes etc but if I knew, I would still wait until the day to buy anything in pink or blue, just in case

For me, I chose not to find out, I like the surprise and personally felt it would spoil it if I knew now what we were having, I never found out with the others either, but then it was against hospital policy anyway because they had got the sex wrong too many times and had been sued So for us, we wll just get the essentials and get anything else we may need after the birth

I am convinced this will be a November baby though, not a December baby like they think

Thank you! Congrats to you too. Wife's belly is really swelling now, with regular movements going on - scarey!

I had forgotten about this thread, good to read through it since. We had our 20 week scan a few weeks ago now and all was well I am glad to say.

We had to ask before he told us, but it is a girl, so just one less shock to get over. The way I see it is that nothing can prepare you for when they put the smelly, slimy little thing in your arms and say "There's your baby", so I wanted to know.

For us, we hadn't planned it at all, so had to pre conceptions (geddit?) about having a baby etc, what we wanted, how we wanted it, or anything like that. In fact we still have no clue!

People try to scare me with "Your life is over!" and so on, but I soon put them straight.

Good luck to all and I look forward to more updates.

Asif

yeah forgot about this thread to !

wife getting much bigger now. we're due 22nd Nov.

her being heavily into e-bay a lot of stuff is coming from there.

we've bought a travel system from there and its as described - mint and used about 4 times !

and its a Jane Slalom Matrix travel system thingy with the brake lever and disc thingy on the wheel. so we know it was like £600 worth going on what we saw in mothercare and we got it for a damn sight less than that.

looking now on e-bay for a second car seat, so one for each car. also e-bay got us another bargain Chicco 3 wheeler, for £12.50

on the subject of the babies sex we decided thats its just much nicer not to know and have a surprise in the delivery room. we felt that knowing now before takes away some of the event - for others to if you're telling them a numberof months before that you're having a boy or girl.

we dont feel we need to know in order to plan that much for a nursery.

we'll just get some stuff sorted for either a boy or a girl now and then have a shopping list etc ready to go with after once we know for sure.....

tbh we've not yet even decided which room will become the nursery.

Steve - Looked at that Jane buggy/pram too - Seems very good but not sure it would get much use. Most of our walks are non buggyable (live very much in the countryside) so would probably use a sling, and we don't tend to stroll around town much.
Might get the Jane infant carrier/car seat and a small light buggy.
Bugaboo is nice but not sure it's worth the money.

Our first is due today!!! Mrs had some contractions night before last, 12 mins apart, but didnt progress into anything.
I was convinced little one would be along last night, but nothing at all, so looks like he or she will be slightly late (typical )

Im more than chuffed, couldn't be happier, have done a lot of reading of the week by week calendar on the Pampers UK site and it blows my mind how a baby develops, I was clueless before. I mean, it goes from a cashew nut into a full grown baby!! with intricate details like eyes and brain and heart etc etc etc, its just too incredible. Things like the arms and legs starting out as buds and growing from that is mind blowing too, makes you appreciate how amazing nature is.

Good luck everyone who is due soon, I have my phone at the ready, permanent on call now.

Matt : from talking to people etc, as a 3 wheeler we felt it would be good for the more country life etc as my parents live on Dartmoor and we visit there a lot etc.

we might need another lighter buggy for certain times / town ? not sure yet.

the jane is very well made but its not the smallest and nicely fills the boot of the car ! the chicco seems a little bigger even.

Grats Bob ! yes i feel the same reading stuff on the week by week development. Got a recording last week at the midwife of the baby's heartbeat which is just soo amazing.

Yes I had some of that Entonox in the ambulance when I had extreme abdominal pains. It was outstanding stuff but the paramedic was saying they charged 50p per breath!

Personally I wouldnt really want to buy a car seat 2nd hand

You really dont know if it has been in any kind of accident prior to you getting it, unless you can visibly inspect it properly for any signs of damage/fatigue etc

On ebay that is something you cant do

well it was the scan on friday last, and we got to find out what it is we are havin.

it's a boy, im well chuffed, he already has some subaru vests and babygrows ordered, just waiting for em to come.

we are gonna call him Radley, as the first 3 letters are my fiances dads initials, he passed away 2 years ago. everything is fine and normal with the baby and mum to be, so just a case of waiting for him to turn up now, and get him along to the first club meet of the new year with a bit of luck

Our son was born in March, so he'c oming up for 6 months old now and he's amazing.

Doesn't sleep at all (put him to bed at 9pm last night and he woke at 10pm, midnight, 2:30 am, 5:40 am then woke up fully at 7am), eats like a horse, screams, laughs and shouts like a good un and is generally the best thing to happen to me ever.

It IS very very knackering though so be prepared.

You don't need most of the stuff you will try and buy - we bought 2 slings, and various other kit which has never been used.

One item worth buying though - Tommy Tippee nappy wrapper - fantastic and half price at Mothercare

Pram wise, we went for the Bebecar travel system - car seat, chassis and convertable pram/pushchair - cost £420 all in and has been good so far - a few niggles but its the only one with suspension, 4 wheels, air tyres and front steering rack so its easy to use.

Buy a big car as well

Good luck to you all.

Just to say that eBay isn't just for second-hand goods.

To the lot of you on this thread talking like old women, oh you wait. Maybe we should have a follow up thread but with the truth.

That's another thing - don't be tempted to buy any clothes - we ended up getting about 100 items as gifts from everyone so we haven't had to buy much yet - same goes for cuddly toys

So? What's the latest folks?

Any exciting Pram news we should know about? Have to say done absolutely nothing about baby stuff up until now, and only 10 weeks or so to go!

Happy to report that all ok so far, Wife is very big now, baby kicks like a good 'un.

Few friends have had theirs since, all going well so far.

Asif we now have less than ten weeks to go, as the missus has now got gestational diabetes, and is currently having to test her blood sugar 5 times a day, and watch what she eats, and also has to now have a scan once a fortnight and see the specialists etc etc

and for the last few weeks she will have to go in twice a week, to be checked, and will be induced at 38 weeks too, so it puts us into late november for the birth
