Asif bro as its your first I am sure you will enjoy every second of it! When my first one was born, everything that my parents had nagged at me about and others had said hit home.

I wouldn't change it for the world, got a 4 year old boy and 1 year old girl and slightly unexpected, got a 3rd on the way (had family planning etc but you can have cases were it doesn't work).

I recommend you at least get a shopping list together of what to get, don't go mad buying everything right now as you will only over spend. Get the main things though either now or after the baby is born:

Basket - get a good comfortable one, mothercare is good for em (if pricey), try to get one with a solid base otherwise they out of shape quickly

Rocking bed etc - one of those metal little bed/seat things that rock up and down, great life safer when the kid doesn't want to go to sleep

Spend some money on a decent pram, one's that have a baby seat/basket that detaches so you can fix it into the car.

Thats the main things, the rest you will buy as you need em. I just nagged my mates to get advice as they were into their 2nd or 3rd child so had experience that I didn't.

Main thing is spend some money on new things, no point in buying second hand stuff for your first born, you can recyle the items later when another sprog is on the way.

And get ready for some odd sleeping times

GD is not nice, sorry to hear that. I know two people who have it/had it. After the first in both cases it went away. My Sister in Law had a second and it stayed as simply type II.

The other lady happens to be expecting in Jan and the GD is back. We will have to wait and see what happens after that birth.

I am not sure if it is type II diabetes or GD where babies can tend to be bigger - just something else to be aware of.

Hope all goes ok for you guys, keep us updated.

Cheers FZ, some useful stuff there and echoes other things I have been told. Am off for the weekend now, but will read this and other posts more thoroughly in the near future.

No doubt our decisions, when we make them, will probably be aired on here too.

GD can make the baby bigger, possibly upto ten pounds if it isnt controlled

They did say that there is a chance of it going to type II Diabetes, but that can be anything upto 5 years after birth !!

Blood Sugar is slightly erratic at the moment, but hopefully we are seeing a start in it stablising and that insulin wont be needed or a C section either

Donna doesnt really want to be induced either

Had a 4D scan the other day.

Pretty amazing looking. Even saw the little ones' eyes opening and her mouth opening and closing too!

So before she's even born she is practising at yakking away like her Mother!

Any updates from anyone else?

Congratulations to all the parents to be, Just remember they grow up faster than you realise, so make sure you spend time with them whilst they are wee, cos they don't stay wee for long

Image Shack is quite useful.

Not the biggest picture, hope you can make out some detail.

I could try to make it bigger?

Brilliant image!

Ours is now "engaged" and pretty much ready to go - yikes!

Finally got my act together and ordered some clothes for it (sex unknown) and a buggy/car seat thingy.

If all goes well, it'll be a home birth.

Wow!

As I said, good luck. Is that a normal time for the head to engage? TBH I don't know.

If the 17th is the due date then I am sure I am the 100th person to remind you that it could come on Saturday week then and still be full term?

Does this information help?

Sorry, but I am getting this now - my 7 weeks could be 5 weeks etc etc.

Asif - LOL! I am getting plenty of that.
It was 36 weeks on Saturday so we really are very close indeed.

You are pretty close too!

You are indeed and yes we are just a little way behind you. Keep this thread going for any going into labour warnings, if you can, would be cool.

If I am not prepared I will get SO much stick I cannot tell you.

One mate of mine had his last year (alright his Wife did!) and they intended for a home birth, as yourselves.

He had invested in hiring a birthing pool and got me to come round to help him lug it upstairs - it is BIG!

That same night (2 weeks before she was due) his Missus was hassling him to get it built. He said he had 4 weeks still, as 2 weeks until due plus "First babies always come two weeks late innit?"

Needless to say, very early the following morning she goes into labour. He jumps out of bed and then starts to construct the pool. By the time he has finished it and filled it up (takes hours) the midwife has come around and they are giving birth.

He missed the whole thing, goes into the bedroom to get her, is ready to carry her into the pool, but is told categorically it is too late, as his poor Missus is on the bedroom floor, on her hands and knees, giving birth there and then!

He did catch the finale but we have never let him forget his lack of preparation. If I do something similar I'll get crucified by him and our other mates!

I hope you are more organised than that?

Asif
