In the respect that police advice is to remove all valuables from your car when you leave it unattended, if you'd done that then your gear wouldn't have been stolen
...but your window would still be smashed and your glovebox opened / rest of car checked out!

Rather a £50 window repair than a £50 window, £250 sat nav etc etc

Good to hear you've got a decent response from Notts
That's not really practical though is it? The items were removed from view, if they hadn't been in the car, the window would still have been smashed.

And what's to say on not finding anything they don't then decide to slash the roof or kick the door in for their trouble? It's all ifs and buts.

I do apologise

I just thought that asking a million and one questions about what happened might have got a bit dull.

Look, I'll put my hand up and say I was very impressed with guy from Notts police, it was a refreshing change to my previous experiences with the police. It's a very long shot that they'll find anything but at least they are prepared to give it a go. As a tax payer that's all I ask.

While asking a million and one questions may not be a laugh a minute, being dissmissive and giving the impression that I was all but wasting police time was hardly constructive either.

Good to hear that Olly

I shan't hold my breath, but if they do get some prints then things obviously look that much more favourable, I'll keep you posted

I wouldn't bother listiening to Felix. He's another Jobsworth copper. He'd rather be out nicking old grannies for doing 35 in a 30 than doing real crime work

The problem you've got is not only do you have to remove the items from the car but also remove any evidence to suggest they were ever there and that includes the marks made by the suction cups. Ultimately, you've got to decide where its safe (ish) to park your car and where its not - a decision you shouldn't have to make but there you go.

And something that isn't always easy to do in an area you are unfamiliar with. It was a open car park in the middle of Nottingham, it wasn't like it was in some dark corner of a pi$$ smelling multi story.

Let's play spot the difference:

Unless your glove box is made of smooth plastic or glass, you won’t get fingerprints off it. You can’t get fingerprints of door handles as you can not lift prints off prints. And if they have smashed the glass, you can’t get fingerprints off that. Glass shatters, so their will be no DNA, if there are no witnesses or suspects, then your only hope will be CCTV
Can you look around the car and see if there is anything that they may have touched that's made of plastic or other shiny materials, CD cases for example

Well, in future you're going to have to err on the side of caution and take the lot with, which unfortunately is what I have to do.

That's why I'm considering this as it has a built in phone so I'd take it with me.

Time to bring this one back to the surface.

Just had a call from Notts auto crime unit. They brought somebody in to custody today who is a heavy drug user and persistant offender. He admited the offence for which he had been caught and asked for a number of other offences to be taken in to account. The police took him to a number of sites round Nottingham where he said the other offences occured and described the vehicles and items stolen at each location. The police were able to tie these up with the crime reports and one of the vehciles was mine.

So fair play to Notts Police, I put my hand up and state "I mis-judged you".

Sadly, no chance of recovering the items or getting any compensation and little chance the magistrates will give him a custodial either

He will probably be sent on his way if he says he is sorry of course, and you will be the big loser Olly. What a state this country has come to, mostly supported by the pc Plonkers and their half baked ideas.

We need some really positive action by the so called protectors of the law, something that the crooks really don't enjoy very much. Hard labour used to work pretty well!
