Yes, but as the police officer said on the phone, they look for the "spit ring" on the windscreen and will quite happily force locked gloveboxes, causing even more damage.
Really the main thing is to remove the signs so they don't consider the car worthy of breaking in in the first place. Just as well he didn't open the boot mind, the laptop was in there

That's a possibility, however, listening to the police officer it doesn't sound like the guy planned it as such, just passing by, desperate for the means to buy drugs, saw the "spit ring" and just went for it.
