Its not the fact that they are continuing to look for their daughter, its how they are doing it I guess. They are obviously courting the media and milking it for everything its got, whilst leaving their remaining children for others to look after. They have obviously made a mistake and are suffering for it and they know it. By making their pain and suffering a it a public show at every given moment helps to divert public attention from the fact they were negligent in leaving 3 very young children alone while they went out and partied. If and when Madeleine is found, the media will pounce on this fact and then finally will question their suitablility as parents.

On the news last night, I was amazed by the sheer lack of emotion shown by Mr McCann when he was fielding the awkward question from the German journalist.

I'd like to think that if some member of the press had been suggesting that I had something to do with my own child's disappearance I would have been slightly more animated in my reply

I have not moderated my position at all. If I thought someone was eye balling my little girl in a suspicious way - I'd confront them verbally, not in a head-lock (though that might follow). The woman made actual contact and I reacted appropriately. Maybe not in your eyes, but to be honest - I'd do the same again over and over again.

We'll agree to disagree as to be honest - your not getting it. If your happy to let an adult converse/touch your kid in the same manner that happened to us with a simple 'excuse me', then good luck - your a potential globetrotter parent.

You grabbed her by the `scruff of the neck` as you put it. That's over reacting. It was a women after all. A verbal intervention should of sufficed, but no doubt physically attacking women is OK with you.
Goes back to another members post. If your child had got out of your eye sight, and a good Samaritan tried to help her find her parents or a Policeman, the good Samaritan could then expect a pasting from yourself. Women or not.

Personally, if I found a young child crying all alone, I'd leave them there crying and frightened. Just in case some **** of a parent `punched my lights out` for trying to help. The next person to come alone might not have the same intentions !!!

I see the BBC has not provided a link to the petition which has to be a form of censorship. It does provide a link to the 'Find Madeline' website.

The McCanns are as accountable as any other parent who leaves their underage child without appropriate supervision

I thought it was shambolic reporting by the BBC to highlight the petitions existence and not post a link to it, even though they link off to the Find Madeline (fund a world tour) site More tremendous journalism from the coffers of my TV license

I think that is the absolute fecking pits. Talk about kicking someone when they are down. Pure vindictiveness.

So they made a mistake with horrible consequences which they will try and live with for the rest of their lives and it has been a warning to thousands of other families.

Why should I feel ashamed about signing a perfectly reasonable petition based on a married couple's naivity. They have acted irresponsible and should face the consequences......

Before you jump in saying "they have paid a lot"..... who has paid the most for their utter reckless stupidity??? A little girl has.......

But I'd just like to correct you on one point, if I may:

Maxine Carr in no way assisted Ian Huntley, and was found not guilty of doing so in a court of law. Her only crime was to provide a false alibi to him because she believed he was innocent.

I would like to add that I have no connection with Maxine Carr, but I felt at the time the Murdoch led media witch-hunt (that ended in her being the first person in the UK to be granted the right to keep their ID permanently secret) was disgraceful in the extreme
I also found it quite ironic that most of the S*n reading scum baying for her blood were quite probably guilty of the very same crime, although very probably in the full knowledge that their husband, son, boyfriend, whatever, was actually guilty

Why is leaving a kid alone in bed while you're having a meal or drink etc on the patio any different?? At what physical distance of separation does it all of a sudden become "neglect"?

Kneejerk reactionism. In my opinion people who sign this petition simply haven't thought it through fully, you just want THEM to suffer in some way because you don't like all the limelight they've been receiving. Why else wuold people want to pile on the agony like this?

It has nothing to do with jealousy about the "limelight" .... anyone who leaves the door unlocked etc is courting trouble.

Surely, common sense would make you think "is leaving my children alone, in a unfamiliar place, in an unsecured room very sensible?"

Well, for any person with an ounce of common sense i guess leaving kids in a room some distance from where you are dining with friends and occiasionally checking in on them instesad of having them with you or employing proppr adult supervision (babysitter) - in a strange country/resort/room would be where i draw the line, shame the McCanns did not either then chances are Maddie would be home and safe.

If they get investigated and prosecuted then fair play.

True, but do you remember that poor little kid in the UK that was snatched naked from her bath ffs. I think mum was in the house at the time. Doesn't prove anything except you can't always protect kids against a determined abductor.

But if you leave the kids in a situation where they could crawl out of bed and fall over a strange balcony then that is clear negligence.
