I've read the original book in 1999 and was amazed. Tried to watch the film a few months ago when it was on tv and lasted 4 minutes 5 seconds.

No, Paul I don't. I haven't yet seen an authentic car chase/scene on tv or otherwise that I could say 'wow' to.

Well, what a pile of shíte! It was embarrassing to watch and looked like a sped up cartoon, I though
Sped up it certainly wasnt. Director's ambition was No CGI, no tricks. Its all "real" - that is actual cars at actual speed.

di nero looks constipated because hes being filmed holding the steering wheel while the car is driven by some guy hidden in the back seat.

Its a stunning sequence.

Do racing films count; ow about 'LeMans' or 'Grand Prix'?

I love the scene at the start of Goldfinger(?) with the Muira around the mountain roads

Easily "The Driver". Moody 70's flick with very little dialogue, plenty of superb driving and not a special effect or gimmicy stunt in sight.

Criminal gang: "How do we know you're that good?"
The Driver: "Get in".
(Cue destruction of orange Mercedes E class in underground car park, manages to do every panel, including roof).

Pure class.

Fast and Furious? Don't be silly. Isn't that the one with the Evo with a 14 speed 'box?
